Why are we afraid of admitting the fact that Sony has the best engines in the world?

We need to stop being afraid of accepting the competition having better tools for game development. Its perfectly OK to get over it, and even praise your competition for having such incredible engines.

Sony has many in-house banger engines, but the two that are the most remarkable ones, the ones that makes their competition salivate for, is of course Bluepoint Engine and Guerrilla's Decima engine. Now, of course i could also name Santa Monica's studio engine, or even the amazing ND engine, but i want to give Sony's competition a chance, not to doom you out of existence, so the Bluepoint Engine and Decima engine is what this is about.

Trust me when i tell you that if it wasn't for Sony, we would still be in the stone age (Nintendo). Local hermits should be incredibly grateful for Sony allowing them to experience their groundbreaking engines, something that wasn't possible on a few years ago.

Decima engine is definitely a looker. I think Naughty Dog engine is up there as one of the best as well what it can do on even base PS4 is incredible. Bit of a shame Sony not thinking of licensing to 3rd party it like UE or Unity. I think if they open it as option its will be a very popular engine and Sony do have experience with licensing. The Phyre Engine was quite popular and lots of game ship on it especially japanese made.

Started playing The Last Guardian again, after three years. Technically pretty impressive and also makes me hate the company more. Killed your whole Japanese division, I'm never buying one of your consoles again. Everybody knows Japanese make better games than Americans and Europeans. Always have.

I'm kind of partial to Snowdrop, Unreal Engine, Source, and various others. But yeah the one that powered Death Stranding is pretty neat.

A shame the weak console is used to run them.

I don't know much about their engines as I don't play the games using them, but can't deny they look nice. Bluepoint's engine, whatever it's called, should be used more.

They don't have the best engines. They do have some excellent artists and pay great attention to detail. The things that people think are great tech demonstrations though, is really just great artists.

Well, it's not just graphics. And it really depends on who's using the engine, and what they're putting into it, in terms of the end product. Regardless, Decima is a great engine.

They have some of the best, their teams can produce excellent assets for the engines to display, and have great face/performance capture capability.

It's a shame there are fewer high end game engines out there to choose from and that it is more difficult to build as they become more complex.

It's also a shame that Sony squandered Dreams as a potential platform for game creation and distribution.

I don't know that much about engines and the technical stuff, but yeah, Sony games look great. Now, if they could actually start releasing some more blockbusters like they did on the PS4. Me wants a new Until Dawn, Uncharted, Days Gone, Detroit Become Human game.

LOL not even close, like in the same galaxy and that's not me but Sony's own presentation and devs confirming it. GG with Decima and ND with whatever they have. Hell ND's engine doesn't even have a level editor, they use Maya.

Even in terms of just the engine renderer they are all outclassed by CE, UE, Snow Drop, Night Life and DICE's. So essentially every one in the industry.

I don't game develop. Is physics included with game engines? Or is it a separate thing that's incorporated into game engines? Reason I ask is because Sony's games have pretty bad physics quite often.

The Lems are deeply afraid of this, just as much as they’re deeply afraid that GamePass isn’t going to reach 3 billion gamers by a long shot.

Yeah, if the UE5 situation is anything to learn from. I would say ease of Use is REALLY important to consider.

The thing that's impressive about Sony's engines is not only are they capable of producing top tier graphics as good or better than anything we've seen from Unreal Engine V so far, but they ALL manage to run 60fps or higher on PS5 some with extra sauce like ray-tracing add on top all at the same time.

THAT is why it's the best @Pedro Not ONLY because they have produced some of the best graphics on any platform. It's graphics AND performance which other engines struggle to match with the same quality on display.

What will be the difference between Hellblade 2 and Death Stranding 2?

Other than graphics and Death Stranding being a huge open world environment vs HB2 small linear design & needing to be in letterbox in order to render those graphics there will be one major difference.

Hellblade 2 will be the best graphics on Xbox consoles but will only 30fps on Xbox Series systems

vs

Death Stranding 2 which will look like THIS on PS5 & 100% still be playable at 60fps!

It was all the xbox & PC fans who were hyped up about UE5 to bring the best graphics to their platforms, while Sony fans knew they didn't need it for Sony to produce benchmark setting graphical show pieces. Those Sony engines having amazing performance is the cherry on top.

The way PC and xbox guys scoff at graphics in this thread tho is funny because xbox guys were shitting themselves over their imaginary 20% graphical advantage over PS5 before release and PC dudes always bumping their chest about a slight bump in settings on the highest end hardware.

But yeah, Sony has the best engines for both graphics and performance this generation and both PC and Xbox dudes hate it with every fiber of their being.

Because it doesn't, all game engines are developed on a PC you lemurs.

Besides it's as much about detail...

as about scale...

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion around what an Engine is. People seem to be mixing up development tools kits, art assets and engines.

It is SW. There are a lot of fanboys that love talking out of their asses with absolutely no idea how things work. They also tend to be the loudest.😂

Yikes

What was that janky video filled with pop-in and PS4 assets supposed to prove exactly?

Did you actually think posting Star Citizen would be a flex? Well I pulled this from your video. This is the crown jewel of PC that has been in development for 12 years and cost 580 million dollars to develop. LMFAO.

Thanks of helping to prove my point even further.

Sony has very talented studios who know how to use the engines and really make the games look amazing in the process. They know the tricks to make games look incredible on hardware which is middling in power.

I do wish they would license their engine to third parties outside of Kojima. I would like to see what other developers could do with their engines.

Seems you can't even comprehend what's being rendered there.

Show us your console rendering planets from space all the way to ground level in real time to see how it holds.

Go on, I'll wait.

Nintendo has great artists, but you've never seen any of their games win best graphics GOTY awards.

Nice try though

An engine is not a fixed thing. Engines aren't developed in isolation and just plonked on a developers desk.

The engine and tools (2 separate things) are built to fit the needs of the game and are constantly worked on throughout development as need arises. The game isn't built around the limits of the engine. If the engine is not capable of the developers vision then they make it capable of the developers vision.

The limit is set by hardware capability and (more so these days) production budget. But if the hardware and the money is there to do a thing then any engine can be made to do a thing.

We are not afraid!! It's just already understood and in agreement, it's never brought to the debate table
