[QUOTE="ng1234"]Because you're in for a risky business trying to compete with Nintendo's super quality line-up. Zhengi

ok first of all :lol: at that comment

The real reason is power;

The big devs have a vision of what they want to do, they want to make games with in depth story, a huge scope and preferably good graphics to tie this altogether. Devs tend to have vision, rightly or wrongly they see this as their art, their baby. To be frank they don't want to strangle its potential at birth;

The wii has the graphical power of a lemon, we all know this. Devs like to push bounderies;

the wii can't have realistic expressive character models that can help bring a story to life (see mass effect ot MGS4);

they can't really have big detailed immersive enviroments that put you in the right mood and give a grand scale (see fallout 3, STALKER etc).

They can't have that many enimies on screen so can't achive a sense of being assaulted by an army (see heavenly swrond or Gears of war2 or RE5 (hehe the wii can't even handel the title screen capcom has said:P)).

They can't have great physics so you wont be ablt to swing rag-dolls gayly (as in happily) through the air like you can in HL2 or Bioshock.

and least but not least they will never look as pretty as HD games, which is important in a next-gen console.

Devs also like to have great online play (see CoD4, Halo3, RE2, TF2) and thwe wii uses 'freind codes' (shudders) and has n overall laughable online compared to PSN or XBL

Overall the Wii is just to constricting to a big Dev, they did all this last gen minus the waggle, if you look at wii ports of HD games like F.U. you will see just how gimped wii games can be.

But if devs think innovatively about how best to use the controls, you'll get gems like Pro Evo 2008, Godfather, and No More Heroes.  This isn't to say that graphics aren't important, but immersive controls that have been well thought out does bring a different experience.

but there are just too many things you CAN'T do with the wii, the wii-mote in not all its cracked up to be  and in terms of immersion it just is no substitute for a big detrailed enviroment. also the sound on the Wii is just not up to the same standard as the PS3 or the 360. think about the sound in Bioshock. pant-wettingly good. the sound on the wii is just not as good at surround sound.

Because of these things development cost for the PS3 and Xbox360 are much much higher then for the Wii... Which would make you think developers would take some of the money they use for PS3 and Xbox360 crap games and make a decent game for the Wii instead...

Your right games like Bioshock are designed with immersion in mind... but why waste the money on second tere games like Fracture and Haze... why not make something cheaper for the Wii, that could be good or sell... instead of making High end shovel-ware.

go ask the devs, they have said time and again the same thing. The wii just sucks to hard in two vital departments; Power and online, i mean when the hwll will they get rid of the friend codes?  Online is a BIG DEAL

i pose you a question, why make a game thats not as good as it can be? Ture the wii offers great oppotunites or some types of games but the big devs have chash to invest in games and lots of it, some games just suite having more power and thiose tend to be the games that sell the best, why would you make a game for a system that would make that game inferiour to the competition?

Aren't devs usually attracted to the console that sells the most? Yet this gen, most of the big devs are hovering around the 360 and PS3 despite them not selling as much. I thought software devs were in it for the profit. So what gives?nervmeister

they are.

Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes, Trauam Center, Final Fantasy My Life as A King, Final Fantasy Fables, Final Fantasy Echoes of Time, Dragon Quest Swords, Manhunt 2, Capcom VS Tatsunko, Okami, Resident Evil: UC, Fatal Frame 4, Monster Hunter 3, Tales of Symphonia 2, Tales of (in 2009), Arc Rise Fantasia, Deadley Creatures, Boom Blox, Blast Works, Bully, Godfather, Call of Duty World at War, Medal of Honor Heroes 2, Madworld, Valhalla Knights, Cursed Mountain,Sadness, Spore, MySims series, The Conduit, Sonic and the Black Knight, Little Kings Story, Mushroom Men

2009 is looking awesome with Little Kings Story, Fatal Frame, Monster Hunter 3, Tatsunko vs Capcom, Spore, Madworld, the Conduit, Tales of (2009), Sonic, Sin and Punishment 2, Punch out wii, Final Fantasy Echoes of Time, Arc Rise Fantasia, Fragile

none of those games really stand out as AAA big hitters, thats what the wii is missing. the games you have listed all have pretty much 360 or ps3 games to match and even outmatch them, many more are just adverage (RE;UC,) or ports (okami, Manhunt 2)

regarding 2009, i don't think its as spectacular as manty make it out to be for the wii, a few of those games look interesting but there are literally hundreds of games of that standard coming to the ps3 and 360, they are only taken notice off becuase they look good 'for a wii game'

Sorry, but many of those games are simply average and that 2009 list doesn't hold a candle to the competition. I mean, if you were going to list every 7.0 caliber game for the 360 or PC the list would be 15 pages long.

It's just a very underwhelming collection of titles there.

The thing is, PS2's graphics compared to XBOX and Gamecube weren't that far apart. The Wii can't compare to the other consoles in terms of graphics and user benefited services such as online play and multimedia interface.

alot of devs and publishers are giving the wii a good luck. the problem is that a big epic game takes years to make..even on wii ure looking at a min of 2 years (and the wii is just over 2 years old now). at this stage in the GCs life cycle, devs and publishers were jumping ship though....so theres definately progress being made in terms of 3rd party support and nintendo platforms.

theres also the multiplat factor to consider. although the wii is the most popular console this gen, the combined sales of the 360, PC and PS3 far outweigh the wiis. so if were to consider that one platform (and hell why not...devs do) then the wii falls short on sales. its not really feasible to make a wii game and port it to the other platforms or make a 360/PS3/PC game and port it to wii...it would take alot of time and money to do it.

then theres just company philosophy. for a company whos focused on high end technology (like epic..who have voiced their digust and sheer hatred of the wii) the wii is basically a non runner. there just not going to publish or develop for the wii at all (itll be interesting to see what epic do if sony and MS decide to do a nintendo next gen).

imho i think itll be the small devs and indie devs who will be making the most of the wii. there already showing the big boys how its done on the platform.

because crayola was established in 1885

rembrant lived from 1606 until 1669

and many many people would have loved if michelangelo would have drawn his paintings of the sixtian chapel with crayola because the fresco (eggshells) are getting dirty and starting to rot

thats exactly the reason why i hate list wars

you make a long list with great games and then there comes some guy that says

you hit the nail on the head, i think this very summerises the thread.

not really since the DS and the PSP has a huge technical gap too.. but yet the DS completely kills the PSP software wise

I'm sorry but are we playing the same games here. GeoW SUCKED big time. Fable and great game shouldn't be used in the sentence. Most AAA games on the 360 I hate. Most AAA games on the wii I hate. AAA means crap. I'll happily take 5-10 7.0 games rather than play the AAA's we have now.

To answer the main point, I think Capcom(?) said it best when they said you would have been a fool to have bet on the wii at launch. Most companies didn't think it was going to sell so well, like the gamecube. So why put money into something thats not going to do well. Now why are we not seeing any really good game on it now, well lets see...GeoW 2 went throught a 2-3 year life cycle, MGS4 about 4-5, FF13 5-6 id say. So I don't know about you but I expect ALL the devs to crap out BIG titles in 1 YEAR! It takes time to make games. All I hear is fanboys saying that all the Wii gets is rushed, crappy games, and yet they want the devs to rush out big name titles so they can feel happy about their wii. I'd say thats a contradiction. Give it time, unless you want more crappy games...

Yeah, agreed.  The problem is that those that argue against the Wii don't care about logic.  They don't realize that it does indeed take time to create great games for any system.  Also, I think many devs held off even though the Wii continued to sell.  Many of them probably just barely realized the mistake they made just this year.

EA has come out and said that they bet on the wrong horses this gen and that this mistake has cost them.  They're going to start focusing more on Wii and DS games as that is where the money is at right now.

japan is nintendo territory anyway

there will be more and more people like tecmo, arika,  monolith or gaia that will go to nintendo to release their titles as nintendo first party

stuff like endless oceas, disaster day of crisis, fatal frame 4 are tecnically 3rd party titles yet nintendo 1st party published..

and most of the small devs will follow that path

because in japan the PS3 as well as the 360 flopped

They're starting to realize their mistake as they sustain more and more losses. Look at Dead Space. It barely cracked the top 10 last month on the NPDs, but it sold some 230k units only. That is massive losses to a pub like EA who has already posted losses of $310 million the last fiscal quarter.

More than anything, those companies like money above all else. They're starting to realize which side of their bread is buttered and they're moving more resources towards Wii development. Japanese devs have already started this trend with companies like Marvelous bringing out a slew of games in 2009.

[QUOTE="nervmeister"]Aren't devs usually attracted to the console that sells the most? Yet this gen, most of the big devs are hovering around the 360 and PS3 despite them not selling as much. I thought software devs were in it for the profit. So what gives?All_that_is_Man

You see dev's enjoy making fun games....and most game on the wii arn't fun....hence why they don't make them for the wii

Second.....Dev's like challenging themselves to make a very pretty game.....and they can't do that on the wii

So if they made a fun wii game, wowuldn't that be a great way to separate themselves from the competition and make a lot of money?

No it isn't.

That Dead space sold 230K is a fact but that game companies is starting to loose money because they didn't support the Wii isn't.

I have yet to see third party devs running to the Wii abandoning the PS3 or 360.

That's the problem with the Wii. Devs don't know what games that really sell on it. Sometimes a great game can sell a ton and sometimes barely at all.

I edited my post.  I didn't say that though so I don't understand how you can make that argument against my point.

the problem is that we dont really have a lot of sales information at all

the NPD only provides the Top 10

but Top 11 to 40 numbers are actually the area were the real money is being made..

especially with a low budget

Let me introduce you to MR. Capcom

On PS3:
Lost Planet
Bionic Commando: ReArmed
Mega Man 9
Devil May Cry 4
Moto GP 08
Age of Booty

On the way to the PS3:
Resident evil 5
Bionic Commando
Dark Void
Street fighter 4
Super Steet fighter II turbo HD remix
Flock

Yes, total abandonment ;)

Bandia Namco on PS3:

Eternal Sonata
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm
Ridge Racer 7
Tekken 5: Dark resurrection
Sould Calibur 4

On it's way that we know of:
Tekken 6
Afro Samurai

Vanillaware and treusure are very small devs that never were on the PS3 or 360, they have always entered a gen later because of lower production cost which the Wii already offer.

I think all publishers (even Sony and Microsoft) should go the Ubisoft route with their games for the wii. ;)

Because with a high amount of those consoles going to people that wont buy the games you want they are not going to give them to us. I have faced the facts and relized my Wii will just sit there untill a solid game is released like the next Zelda 2 years from now.

They probably found themselves underwhelmed by the lackluster hardware and gimmicky control set up.

Well not all developer wants money the most, some take pride in their work and in most cases it is only possible if they develop it on the PS3 or the XBox 360. Some might go as far as sticking to only one platform just to put more focus on it so it take full advantage of the gaming hardware. This was one of my main concern for the Wii, their specs are just below the other two that makes it very unattractive for developer to work with.

actually i disagree...

devs like making money, sure tthere are devs who like making fun games, but there arent as many as you'd think..

devs hate challenges.. in interviews they say they like them but only series devs enjoy them hoping to make a breakthrough (in which they'd end up making money)

world=money...its sad but true..

there are truthful devs, i think kojima is a great example...Another multiplat devs would be ubisoft (at least most of there work it).
