I actually had an Xbox One S for a few weeks, but decided to trade it in as I just wasn't getting that much use out of it. Luckily I'd bought it on the black friday sales and with a friend's Tesco discount, so pretty much broke even.
That's not a knock against the Xbox of course, it just comes down to personal preference since I dislike being restricted to a tv for gaming these days. Maybe I'm just a handheld hipster, but I imagine it would have ended up being the same buyer's remorse if I had picked up a PS4 instead.
Now then to the Xbox One's credit I actually enjoyed the gaming experience on it more than with PC. The controller is great, it's a sleek and silent design, an affordable 4K bluray player (I don't have a 4K tv though), backwards compatibility is awesome and the services seem like superb value. It's true that PC is unmatched in terms of its back catalog, but with some older stuff there's occasionally the hassle of compatibility with different versions of Windows or hardware setups. Not a problem with the Xbox.
Additionally, the UI isn't half as bad as people make it out to be, and the exclusives are really good fun, particularly if you like your multiplayer stuff.
So yeah despite not sticking with it myself, I can certainly see why somebody would prefer the Xbox One over PC gaming or vice versa. With PC you do get access to that sweet strategy genre of course! It just comes down to the way you most enjoy gaming really, as there are pros and cons to both.
