Why cant 14 year old gamers get any respect?

One of my favourite games ever I would have to say is Half Life 2 for FPS, Tekken 3 for fighting and The secret of Mokey Island.

I am always looked upon as a n00b when to comes to older gamers when they say stuff like 'you dont know crap about games' when actually I would know a lot more then they think.

My favourite game at the moment would be Bioshock, games I am looking forward to are Scribblenauts and Borderlands.

Another thing, people my age only play games like Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 and it really makes me mad when I say somthing like 'Hey you guys getting scribblenauts? and they just stare at me like im high on drugs' I have a friends who have never played an FPS before and call them self 'hardcore gamers'

About being spoiled I am not. I payed for my 360, PS3 and Gaming PC and buy most of my games.

Oh and people might think I know nothing about games but I love them and every day I am on gamespot.

My first handheld would probably be the Gameboy colour. My earliest gaming days I remember would be play 2-D side scrolling games like 'Monster bash' and remember loving Wolfenstein 3D at the same age. My first handheld was Gameboy colour and my first console was the Playstation. So why do people point their finger at me and tell me my first gaming console was the Playstation 2 because of my age? its crap.

Thats why im asking you to realise you can be a gamer at any age and what ever age that is it doesnt matter.

Relax, and don't let it bug you. Most 20+ year olds act like 14 year olds and some 14 year olds act like 20+ year olds. It's also evident that if people are attacking your age in a video game argument, they are making an argument likely irrelevant to the actual topic, which already invalidates their points. Don't take them seriously.

Age aside for a moment, respect must be earned. Even in SW. If you want respect from the decent people here, make intelligent, well-spoken, researched posts. Don't whine, don't complain. Offer something constructive. Those with more experience and more knowledge (regardless of age) should deserve some respect to start, unless by by their attitude or language they throw that away immediately.

It suprises me, being a teacher, that so many students demand respect even before it's earned, especially from someone with more knowledge and experience.

Making pointless threads isn't a good start.

I'm not judging, I'm just saying that it won't help you in an argument. I personally don't care about username or age, I'm younger than most but its really irrlelevant. Fact is though, most youngr gamers lack knowledge. If you found your way to a gaming forum however, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Depending on how well you post,you probably could pass for a person several years above your age on System Wars.It might not mean much,considering this is just an online gaming forum (then again,you could say a similar argument for gaming in general),but there are lots of down-to-earth,cool people on System Wars.

Because overly elitist 'adult' gamers hate the act that younger gamers have more fun than them. Something like that anyway, although you do get some younger gamers who are annoying little *****.

Agreed im 15 and i dont even play games like halo and call of duty. I prefer games like Fallout 2 and Grim fandango (myall time favourite game)

and when i do go online i never use a head set because i hate those imature people just as much as any one else here.

It's true, and my previous post was constructive criticism. I have not idea of the age or gender of most of the people here. For my par,t I'm 30 and I don't care about the age of anyone here, as long as they are friendly, well spoken and have something interesting to say. That's relatively easy to emulate.

I don't think its that. Generally speaking, do you think tha an adult respects the opinion of a 14 year old on most issues? They really lack experience and knowledge most of the time to properly comment. That said, as far as gaming goes, you prove your knowledge through your arguements and reasoning, your age normally doesn't affect that.

Well I for one don't care about old school games, so in most self proclaimed "hardcore" gamer's eyes I am a noob as well. Don't worry about them.

I'd agree with that. I'm sure there are people out there half my age with more recent gaming experience.

It's a well known fact that every guy thinks they know everything about anything. The difference between me and a 14 year old however, is that I can occasionally stop talking about it.

Just play the games you want and don't pay attention to these so called elitists. Form your own opinion on games/gaming.

We were all 14 once and I'm pretty sure alot of us played games at that age.

Simple, your 14 years old. The general consensus is that teenagers are usually immature, loud mic spamming, camping, nooby brats and frankly I usually think that because I've had more than my fair share of those but for the most part I no problem against the ages of the ones I play with as long as they're playable with.

Why can't 14 year old gamers earn any respect?
