[QUOTE="gamewhat"]thats where streaming the game would help out with the 512 bottleneck. chop chopcobrax75

streaming off of what? from the CD? Harddrive?

both of those are 100's of times slower than Ram.

RAM speed >>>>>>> HDD streaming speed >> streaming directly off DVD

360 can ONLY stream off the DVD. It can't use its harddrive for storage.

I'm not trying to instigate any sort of argument here. I'm pretty sure 360 couldn't run crysis. I'd just like computer tech savy people to tell me what exactly it is that 360 hardware is missing to run a game like Crysis (whatw would the 360 need at this point to run it?)...just curious thats all. Thanks!HappyAppe

add another 512mb ram and it would run, on probably low-med settings. consoles lack ram, they always have and probably always will until console makers relize 2gb ram with a hd3850>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>1gb ram with a 8800ultra

Because then the console would be more expensive, to allow more ram, which defeats the purpose of a cheaper console. Crysis sure as hell looks amazing, but it'll cost ya. Impex

explain to me why you think ram is so expencive when you can get 2gbs of pc ram for around $60? ok the fast graphics ram is a bit more but you don't need it all to be fast. and if ram is expencive why is it buget graphic card often come with 512mb ram while performance cards often only have 256mb? its all about marketing, they make you think ram is expencive but really its dirt cheap. and then there is the other one when they make you think 512mb gpu >256mb gpu but 256mb hd3850>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>512mb 8600gt

it would be dumbed down

360 was developed with 2004-2005 tech

could the best commercially available comp run crysis with 2004 specs?

meaning a 3ghz or so P4, 1gbram with an average 256 card?

Spite_Ninja

just meets the min specs but wouldn't be much fun running it. my 7800gt is pretty bad for the demo

If I could design the next xbox/ps, I'd give it a reasonable amount of RAM,but then give it a gig extra, just to give it that extra boost for longevity and potential.

no PC right now can max out Crysis....unlike what most PC gamers said before the game came out that is would be easy to max out Crysis...I will wait till next year to get a new computer that can max out Crysisprimetime2121

not enirly true, a 8800gt/gtx can run it in 720p on very high with a decent frame rate, its only when you want to run it on your 22-30" monitors native resloution you have big issues

Yea yea the RAM is an issue. Crysis still wouldn't run to well, The gpu isn't all that great in the 360.

[QUOTE="cobrax75"]RAM.PS3_3DO

Dude my PC ran the Crysis demo on medium settings and I only have 1gb of Ram. Of course I only got around 15fps but still the 360 is more powerful then my PC using a 7600.

1gb ram + 128-512mb or whatever your gpu has - around 300mb for windows is a lot more than 512 total ram -32mb for the os.

Well the 360 only has 512mb of ram and the 7600 is a budget gpu (no where near high-end).

The Ram in Consoles like the 360 is like 1-1.5gb of Ram on the PC.

no its like 1gb and a 8600gt with 256mb max, and then you still get longer load times on x360. and 1gb is what gaming pcs had in 2004-early 05

Does anyone know the lowest amount of ram windows xp can use?michael098

I've seen 64mb usage in a fresh xp install with no service packs installed but in reality i'd say it somewhere around 200mb

A dumbed down version of the engine... Basicaly you wont use 50% of the engines potetial, which makes it pointless to even use it.

Not only that but how do I play some R6V maps if they aren't being streamed frommy harddrive?... It does and it can, its just that HDD weren't standard for 360 SKU's that were the problem.

Crysis is very CPU & GPU intensive.

with regards to CPU- Crysis pretty much requires multi-core CPUs- atleast dualcore, quad-core even better. the X360 has a tri-core CPU- but like most games console CPUs its very much a stripped down CPU, its got a lot less cache than a PC CPU & from a design point it is 2 years old.

RAM- Xbox360 has 512MB RAM (on a 128-bit databus) + 10MB EDRAM - put simply this is far off from high end PCs who have 4GB RAM of fast system RAM & 768MB of Video RAM (on the best cards they have 384-bit databus- put simply- a high end rig will have VASTLY superior BANDWIDTH.

GPUs- lot has been talked about how advanced the R500 is- well indeed it is- or should I say WAS?- yes it WAS advanced in 2005, but PC GPUs superceeded it about 18months ago. the top end cards likei said hast VASTLY superior memory bandwidth, run at a much faster clock speed & think the 48-arrays the R500 has is impressive? well a 8800GT Ultra has 128.

the advantage of consoles is the fact u can optimise & low OS requirments meaning u can get a really good looking game on a modest-spec machine. but when u compare against the latest high-end rigs which even Crysis is extremely demanding for them a 2 yr old resonably priced games console just wont compete. not without significant alterations.

"It's absolute nonsense to think that consoles are at the cutting edge," said Roy Taylor, vice president of content relations at Nvidia, the world's biggest manufacturer of graphics cards.

"As good as consoles are, they are so far behind the PC gaming experience that there is no comparison.

Nvidia's latest high-end graphics cards, the 8800 series, can easily produce graphical effects that tax the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, such as motion blur, depth of field and volumetric smoke.

Mr Taylor said: "Fog, smoke or mist in games until now have been flat and don't respond to objects. Volumetric effects mean they are dynamic - a helicopter can now displace cloud or smoke, or a character can step through the fog realistically."

Well, I think it's also because they can't simply tone down the graphics, I have a top of the line rig and I play on high, now my dad has a.....average PC, and he plays on low......and it's simply unplayable on low. For example: In the beginning, you see the plane approaching the island, now, on my pc it's just an island with thick clouds around it. now on my dads, you could only see the top of the mountains sticking out, because were the clouds were supposed to be, there was now just flat greyness.

I think Crytek should have spent some time on balancing out those differences, because now it's either supergood looking or plain butt-ugly.
