tell me why. i find it hard to believe that they can't make a profit considering their over-priced accessories $100 for a 20GB  the microtransaction ground of xbox live, and its games generally sell well. you know why im not buying a 360? becuz it would end up taking my money in a subtle way, ask yourself this xbox fanboys, how much have you spent on your 360? with all those ridiculous and over-priced microsoft points, and the seamless amount of downloable content on the marketplace?

They're making profit. They've broken even a LONG time ago. I think it's something like 200 dollars for every console.

Umm didn't you hear the news a week or two ago? Microsoft's game division lost a heck load of money. Due to increasing the 3 year warranty and they expect to introduce new parts like the 65nm to cut costs of manufacturing.

M$ is losing money big time. 2008 will be the last year for the 360 IMO before M$ will have to make a new console.

Sony is what? Cant you stay on topic? The fact is MS isgoing to lose money due to the 3 Year Warranty. Will it lose tons? Depends on how well your product last. As for me, I've already had to replace my 360. The new one I have now gives me Disc dirty errors. I have a feeling MS is going to lose tons of Moo la.

sony did not need to because their ps3 is not faulty like the 360.

You really think you got a "free" 3 yr warranty? Think again.

MS makes $200 for every 360 sold? Any source to back that up because the last I heard was the it was $75 for every console. That would be quite a jump and I'd expect more then a $50 price cut if that was the case. Now, I guess you can call that profit except for the fact that MS's gaming division is still in the hole by about 6 billion. Just like Sony and it's 2.7 billion at the moment.

The 3 yr warranty is one step short of a recall. We all know that MS will never do a recall. None of the console maker will do a recall cause that will look really bad inthe media. So they do a patch like extending the warranty.

It will be interesting... if they problem presist and they have to extended it into a 4 yr warranty.

Oh, and the 3 yr warranty only covers the red rings of death. If was a 360 owner, I will sell my 360 once the warranty is over and get the 65nm version when it appear. I am assume the 65nm version would not be faulty.

MS lost 6 Billion since the launch of the first Xbox in 2001. Their first Xbox only lasted 4 years while the PS2 is coming on 8 years. The 360 will last until 2009, then MS will make a whole new console again...and you'll have to pay MS again and again and again and again.....

The PS2 is still making the most money out of any previous generation console. The PS3 will last well beyond 2012, when MS is on their fourth console.

Its alittle hard for Microsoft to turn a profit when their spending billions in repairing their **** consoles! if their consoles were actually reliable, I'm sure theyd be doing quite well.

My mistake, I guess I was misinformed. That's why I said "I think".

And Microsoft is making a profit on each console they sell. But they do need to keep putting money into it to increase profit in the future.

1.89Billion is for the LAst year. It's noted in their last financial report that the gaming division lost about 6Billion USD since it exists (since Xbox). Of that 1.89Billion lost of the last year , 1.2Billion goes to that new 3 year warranty. They'll keep loosing money until they fix the hardware and STOP putting out new consoles. For each console launch it costs A LOT of money to the company. The Xbox got out what... 2 years after the PS2? and then came the 360 a year before the Ps3. If you can't make a console with a long lifetime, you won't be able to turn any profit. And that's for now the principal reason MS is losing 6 Billion. And the principal reason why Sony and ninty are able to turn profit on the long road.

Just shows how much they want to fix problems and improve their console. They made lots of money, and spent more money for the betterment of the 360.

It's not hard to understand.

tell me why. i find it hard to believe that they can't make a profit considering their over-priced accessories $100 for a 20GB  the microtransaction ground of xbox live, and its games generally sell well. you know why im not buying a 360? becuz it would end up taking my money in a subtle way, ask yourself this xbox fanboys, how much have you spent on your 360? with all those ridiculous and over-priced microsoft points, and the seamless amount of downloable content on the marketplace?progenitorvirus

You're wrong. MS makes money off of every 360 that is sold, and they have the highest game attach rate as well. Sony loses money for every ps3 that is sold. MS turns a profit, sony does not. And MS put out a 3 year warranty for free and they will fix and replace anyones 360 no questions asked. You are amazingly wrong, come back when you know what you're talking about.

are you serious?

it's called the business model that both sony and ms are using.

so far, sce has lost over 2 billion on the ps3 at only 6 months on the market....

ms will see a profit waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before sony ever does on their console...;)

progenitorvirus

yeah ok thanks for the laugh  thats if 500,000 x360s don't scumb to the three red lights....

If you can name the business model, you'll have your answer...

and your self ownage...;)

oh believe me mr. tango i know how the buisness model works... yeah you lose money with new systems, but didnt you hear the poster above u? microsoft has lost 6 billion dollars since the original xbox  yeahhh... and im sure it's going to be more with the faulty hardware...

You no nothing... they are at a 1.89 billion dollar lose for there game division. That includes the first xbox. Where do you get 6B?

the guy posted it on the first page. it wouldn't surprise me becuz they lost a lot of money on the xbox. but really with all these microtransactions, and accessories they cant turn out a profit even before the 3-year warranty  yah... let me tell you that j allard guy and peter moore just know how the run things.

Microtransactions? MS does NOT set the price to all microtransactions, the game developers/publishers do. The HDD is NOT overprice for CONSOLE memory, did you forget how much an 8 MB PS2 memory card cost?

Now I sit back and wait for you to quote me out of context.

Umm didn't you hear the news a week or two ago? Microsoft's game division lost a heck load of money. Due to increasing the 3 year warranty and they expect to introduce new parts like the 65nm to cut costs of manufacturing.

You are amazingly wrong, come back when you know what you're talking about.

have you even ignored my link? MICROSOFT HAS LOST $6 BILLION EVERY SINCE THE LAUNCH OF THE ORIGINAL XBOX, you sir are wrong. they can't make a profit on crap. one again plz take a look at the link. http://www.joystiq.com/2005/09/26/forbes-xbox-lost-microsoft-4-billion-and-counting/

Not really since its PS2 is still turning profits.

SCE reported 2 BILLION in losses at only 6 months...

you may want to do more research...;)

MS lost 6 Billion since the launch of the first Xbox in 2001. Their first Xbox only lasted 4 years while the PS2 is coming on 8 years. The 360 will last until 2009, then MS will make a whole new console again...and you'll have to pay MS again and again and again and again.....

The PS2 is still making the most money out of any previous generation console. The PS3 will last well beyond 2012, when MS is on their fourth console.

wow... gamers get to use 2006 graphcis technology in 2012....watta bargain...

Yeah. It's quite a bargain, considering, no matter how many consoles MS make, the PS3 will be favored as the PS2 was. Have fun buying future MS consoles with future red ring of deaths.

pretty lame damage control, someone sounds self concious about their PS3 purchase.

My mistake, I guess I was misinformed. That's why I said "I think".

And Microsoft is making a profit on each console they sell. But they do need to keep putting money into it to increase profit in the future.

I see what you're getting at.

They forgot how to operate without a monopoly.

It gets tougher to make money when you have less than 90% market share.

Please stop posting this junk. You have no clue what you are talking about yet you sit here bashing and ranting and posting emotions because you think they make your weak arguments any stronger.

Microsoft published Gears, so your point in invalid. Try again

And I love how you say nothing about Downloads on the PSN. $8 for 2 maps cost way more then anything on XBLM.

I haven't met anyone who has bought a HDD for the 360...People just buy the elite or the premium. The HDDs are only there for people who want to upgrade from the core to a premium or an elite. Are you forgetting that the 360 comes with a hdd, and it really doesn't matter what it costs considering it's still much cheaper than the PS3.

I couldn't care less if the HDD's are that expensive, I have my 2 premiums that work just fine and came with HDDs. All you post is lame damage control, and you're basically flaming. it's funny how much you think the 360 is terrible, but it's still outselling the PS3 in hardware and in games. Hahaha, so what's that say about the ps3?
