[QUOTE="Heil68"]The good news is MS still has RECORD NET profits as a whole though! Good job MS!progenitorvirus
Yes i know that-- but they haven't made up for their total losses. they've lost a lot of money with both the xbox and x360.

But they have RECORD profit, it's like they don't even miss it..They dont need to 'make up'..They made more than last year or ever before, hence record profits..wow..pretty impressive huh?

you think microsoft is making money on the xbox 360 yet they've lost $6 billion dollars total since the launch of the original xbox.... well buddy i already put a link for you to digest. yet you still throw it away and disregard the facts. just like microsoft-- its fanboys are too very ignorant.progenitorvirus
Who was this even directed at? Anyway, all I see was the same link you posted 3 times to an article from 2005, before the 360 was even out.

sorry noob your thread is a miserable failure, ms HAS turned a profit on their games division, and overall the company has netted 54 billion dollars, and extending the warranty has done nothing to hurt them

Sorry, you don't have the facts straight. MS has turned a profit for the company overall but their gaming division has not. And hurting them is not a matter of being able to recoup losses but actually having them to begin with.

sony did not need to because their ps3 is not faulty like the 360gamenux

Here's my suggestion for the people with 360 problems: stop tossing your consoles around.

I haven't had a single problem with any of my systems: PS2, GC (I got at launch), 360 (I got at launch), and.. wait, no. I don't have a PS3 yet.

[QUOTE="dudy80"]Sony has higher losses tho...Sparky04

Not really since its PS2 is still turning profits.

SCE reported 2 BILLION in losses at only 6 months...

you may want to do more research...;)

MS lost 6 Billion since the launch of the first Xbox in 2001. Their first Xbox only lasted 4 years while the PS2 is coming on 8 years. The 360 will last until 2009, then MS will make a whole new console again...and you'll have to pay MS again and again and again and again.....

The PS2 is still making the most money out of any previous generation console. The PS3 will last well beyond 2012, when MS is on their fourth console.

Thats a nice crystal ball you've got there.

No need for a crystal ball. When MS entered the console race they stated that they wanted to shorten the console life span and they followed through by terminating the Xbox 1 @ only 4 years. There is no indication that they won't do the same for the Xbox 360.

[QUOTE="progenitorvirus"]and umm yes microsoft sets the price for most of the stuff on xbox live-- its there store. look at the gears maps-- epic wanted them for free but microsoft wanted YOU to pay for them. they eventually cut a deal and they are free after a few months.limpbizkit818

Please stop posting this junk. You have no clue what you are talking about yet you sit here bashing and ranting and posting emotions because you think they make your weak arguments any stronger.

Microsoft published Gears, so your point in invalid. Try again

And I love how you say nothing about Downloads on the PSN. $8 for 2 maps cost way more then anything on XBLM.

ok this conversation is off topic a bit. but i agree that $8 was alot for two maps, but i also think it was more than that. the day they came out with those maps was the day they made the international servers, and im sure that cost some money to do so they had to jack the price a little to make up for it. thats what i think they charged so much for

You should take your own advice.

Read MS's 10-K filings here and here.

Each individual console might be making a profit but the games division as a whole is still hemorrhaging (to the tune of 1.89 billion) the most current total is 7.28 billion in total net losses.

MS was on track to start making money by this holiday, supposedly the 3 yr warranty has pushed that back to the end of their fiscal yr.

End of April 2008 I think.

Yes, the whole company is turning a profit. I already pointed that out in my post. That wasn't my point.

They're making profit. They've broken even a LONG time ago. I think it's something like 200 dollars for every console.MADVLAD123

Microsoft has already said numerous times that they have yet to make a profit from either consoles they have released and their games. It doesn't mater, if anything Microsoft can take that loss and who cares which is more popular or who gets the most money its the quality.. The only company who has made significant profit is the Nintendo. In the end the only system I have doubts on atm is the PS3.. But who knows for certain.

Ok so we'll use your model. MS will be on its 4th console, (2 in 5 years?!?!? ummm ok) so it will be miles more advanced than the PS3 as technology ramps up so quickly these days, who would still be buying a crappy PS3 that can't even outperform the 360?

 oh i forgot that was hilarious what you said $200 for each console

Well, they are making $200 for each console. They lost money because of the 3 year warranty. That doesn't mean that they are gaining money off each console.

Umm didn't you hear the news a week or two ago? Microsoft's game division lost a heck load of money. Due to increasing the 3 year warranty and they expect to introduce new parts like the 65nm to cut costs of manufacturing.

You're wrong. MS makes money off of every 360 that is sold, and they have the highest game attach rate as well. Sony loses money for every ps3 that is sold. MS turns a profit, sony does not. And MS put out a 3 year warranty for free and they will fix and replace anyones 360 no questions asked. You are amazingly wrong, come back when you know what you're talking about.

have you even ignored my link? MICROSOFT HAS LOST $6 BILLION EVERY SINCE THE LAUNCH OF THE ORIGINAL XBOX, you sir are wrong. they can't make a profit on crap. one again plz take a look at the link. http://www.joystiq.com/2005/09/26/forbes-xbox-lost-microsoft-4-billion-and-counting/

they have lost money, yes. So has sony, and sony LOSES money on every ps3 sold. ms MAKES money for every 360 they sell, do you know what that's called. That's what we call a PROFIT, you see how that works? Sony has already lost plenty, and the ps3 hasn't even been out that long. MS makes more money on the 360, sony loses money on every ps3 sold.

MS makes plenty of profit, no matter how much they lose, they make money from vista, OS's, windows mobile, the 360 still makes them money. you're still wrong.

I read somewhere that it costs sony $800 for each ps3
