Why can't SONY get system updates right?!

I put in my copy of SC4 and it told me I had to update to firmware 2.42. After the update, I start noticing that the fan on my ps3 is now louder than the one in my 360. Turns out other people have experienced this. What the hell is wrong with SONY... release firmware updates which don't brick systems.dinb

I've updated to 2.42, no changes in system stability.

Am I the only one that never hears a peep from my PS3 fan? It only comes on when my PS3 gets hot, which is rare.

I also haven't had a problem with the new update.

Most people dont care about rating games. I know i dont rate all my games, and even when i do, i just randomly slide the thing to 10 or thereabouts

and who came up with that rule? and where did you pull that statistic out? the neither regions of your bottom? i own all 3 systems and dont even rate half my collection of games which spans from the atari 2600 to the wii.

and its a FACT sony users have reported that the latest update is causing problems with the ps3. update 2.42

Well, in my case it does get hot often enough. I'm not gonna go blaming sony, though. It's not the PS3's fault I live somewhere with over 100°F as the norm during half of the year.

On topic, the update didn't seem to do much. Didn't brick my system or anything. I can't really tell the difference between 2.41 and 2.42.

so what if he's only reviewed 360 games doesn't mean he hasn't got a PS3....... and dedicated to gaming instead of one system... wow just wow.

I've rated maybe 2 games, I just can't fecked to do it...

but then again in all fairness i've installed 2.42 and had no effects...

MS are no better. I wanted to play some offline Forza 2 a few months back....I wasn't allowed to load my profile until I did the update.

WTF! I had no internet for the weekend, so I couldnt play the game unless I could plug my 360 into an internet connection somewhere!

I can understand if I wanted go online, but I jsut wanted to play some single player career!

And why is it you have to do the update to every single game when they release an update!!!!!!!!

Yeah but the prob here is he does show he cares about rating games because he clearly rated a whole bunch of games, all on the 360. Im not gonna take a side on whether he does or doesnt have a ps3 but it isnt unreasonable to be suspicious looking at that list

Actually, that's incorrect. There have been cases of unmodded consoles getting bricked.

Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. This is the same reason why Sony goofed up the API for their development kit. Had they been a more experienced software company, they could have masked some of the clumbsiness of programming for the Cell.

So can someone PLEASE tell me why all of these "bricks" have been happening almost a week and a half after the update was released?

Do these people not play their PS3 at all? And if they don't, doesn't it seem odd, that these people who don't actually use their PS3 much, are the only ones complaining about the update bricking their system?

Firmware 2.40 F'ed up, but not as bad as Fanboys would have you believe. Maybe there were a few problems this update, but somehow, I doubt it's anywhere NEAR being a concern. It's mostly false accounts of events that never happened, in an attempt to mar the PS3's reputation as being a reliable console.

Well dang. Dinb looks like his credibility has been destroyed & he hasn't offered a single shred of proof that his PS3 problems (if he has one) is real. I'll hold back my comments until he exonerates himself.

There is not one person that has said the issue is real other than dinb. In fact, every poster that replied stated they are not seeing a problem at all. Where is the massive thread that complains about PS3 fan speed? There isn't one, which means it probably isn't a problem. I mean sure, when we heard the 2.40 patch crashed systems, it was all over SW & elsewhere...massive proof! There has not been anything at all, other than his word, that the fan is speeding up. And as the other guy noted, he doesn't have a PSN ID or a single PS3 review = FAIL.

Isn't this the update that sony had to remove because there were multiple problems with it. I Google search revealed that there were problems with the firmware which caused bricked systems, etc. Therefore, the TC might be having problems. We're all in teh same boat (flying blind), but i hate to call someone a liar when their claims seem reasonable.

It doesn't, when I had a PS3 my system had the same problem(not because of firmware just would overheat in about 5 minutes) and it was the loudest thing in my room. Louder then my xbox, louder then my computer, and ever louder then my fan.

The SAME thing happend to me, I had never heard my fan before, then one day it just randomly started when I was playing. I wasn't sure if the fact that it was the first time I had ever heard it was a good or bad thing.
