These two games are what an FPS should be IMO

Rather than just running around and shooting stuff these games offer much more than stuff like halo and killzone.

These games use the first person viewpoint to its fullest potential by creating a completely immersive, atmospheric, non linear and deep gameplay experience.

metroid prime may well be the most immersive game ever created. You see the world through samus' visor; which makes for all sorts of cool little things like water running down the screen when its raining, static interferance when your near electricity, being blinded by light when coming form a dark area, seeing samus' eyes reflected on the screen and of course xray and heat vision.

Now with prime 3 its taking it to a whole new level with the wiimote. your right hand acts as samus' arm cannon and your left is her right arm (throwing grapple beam, opening doors) and using the pointer as samus' index finger to press buttons insideher ship.

Even though bioshock won't won't have crazy motion controls, it makes up for it with amazing graphics and artsyle. It also helps that the story is one of the best I've yet heard of as far as games go, and unique gameplay situations.

Gamers are priveliged to have two of these games in one year but they really only come along a few times a generation, while run and gun linear shooters are countless.

it's a damn shame to think that killzone 1sold twice as much as MP2 and that bioshock has commercial failure written all over it.:(

PS2 had 5 times the installed base of the GameCube, so your comparison of Killzone to MP2 is flawed and unfair.

And Bioshock is one of the most hyped games on the 360 this side of Halo 3, not just in the game media, but I have read stories about it on CNN and the BBC. "Commercial failure" is laughable at this point.

System Shock 2 and Metroid Prime are two of the most underplayed first person shooter hybrids of all time.

Those kind of First Person viewed games are just aweomse because there are few of them. Developers develop games which are currently popular. WWII games were first, massively overdeveloped because they were popular and sold well. Modern war games seem to be up next. Battlefield 2 was unique for it's time (even though there were more modern shooters, this one was really good) but soon it will be flooded with modern and near-future war games. After that very futuristic war games could be next. Or games with the like of BioShock.

Point is, it's special now. When it's flooded with games like that you are once again looking for something different.

If you ask me, the Xbox was crawled with newbe's to console gaming and even gaming as a whole. Not a fair comparison either.

Kids on this forum need to realize that games like Grand Theft Auto and Halo aren't "adult" in any way whatsoever, and referring to Nintendo as "kiddy" is probably the most immature thing you can say.

I consider adult games to be along the lines of Mist, Planescape: Torment, Civilization, Metroid Prime, and Bioshock. Simply because they are intellectual and do not appeal to younger gamers.

Is Bioshock an RPG or a shooter? I really wish people would make up their minds.

Just like System Shock 2, it is both.

Thats closer. If you went metroid prime to Halo, Halo sold 3 times more, but again, you are comparing the best console shooters of last gen (maybe ever so far) that were tailored for a FPS fans system, and comparing them to a FPS-esque game on a console designed more around family and more friendly fare.

Fact is, Metroid Prime didn't do bad considering what it had to work with, at all. And Killzone was selling to an audience of 120 million and was hyped as everything and the kitchen sink...

Hahaha. Nexbies to gaming. Cute. I like that.

Most Xbox owners I knew IRL (myself included) came from the Dreamcast when it curled up and died. Between my friends and I, we owned many Xboxes, and all of us had been gaming since the NES and before.

When you want to make generalizations, provide some proof, or keep your opinions to yourself, because it makes you look ignorent.

install base? Bah:x

Are you saying Metroid prime would have sold better on PS2?

Good news about bioshock, hope it gets the success it deserves

Metroid Prime, had it had 100 million more potential buyers (PS2 installed base vs GC base), would have sold far better. I guarantee it.

If they made more they wouldnt feel so special. I rather they make one or two a year and that they be fantastic, than having 10 mediocre ones and one good one.
