How come the Wii has trouble generating good games with its "revolutionary" control scheme? I'm only making this thread because we've been given a number of threads recently spewing information about the Wiis sales. But what about what really matter? GAMES? Where's the beef? Where's the games?

Here's the top 10 rated games for each system here on SW:

360:

1. Gears of War 9.6

2. Elder Scrolls Oblivion 9.6

3. Tom Clancy GRAW9.2

4. PDZ 9.0

5. Guitar Hero 2 8.9

6. COD3 8.8

7. Burnout Revenge 8.8

8. Dead or Alive 4 8.8

9. COD2 8.8

10. Kameo 8.7

Wii

1. WW Smooth Moves 9.1

2. LOZ OOT 8.9

3. LOZ TP 8.8

4. Super Mario World 8.5

5. LOZ Link to the Past 8.5

6. Madden 07 8.4

7. Super Mario Bros 8.3

8. Super Monkey Ball 8.3

9. Gunstar Heroes 8.1

10. Super Mario 64 8.0

PS3

1. Elder Scrolls Oblivion 9.5

2. Resistance Fall of Man 8.6

3. Tekken 5 Dark Ressurection 8.3

4. NHL 2k7 8.3

5. Virtua Tennis 8.2

6. Fight Night 3 8.2

7. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 8.2

8. NBA 2k7 8.2

9. Tiger Woods 07 8.2

10. COD3 8.2

Why are the retro games on the Wii outscoring the "next-gen" games? And what does that mean?

Why did you leave out "Good" games... 8 and above is "Great", and "Suprub" you should include "Good" games in your list if your going to go out on a limb and say the Wii can't get "Good" games...

Also it just means that those old games are badass, and worth the small amount of money they are asking for.

Tell me why most of PS3's top rated games can be found on the 360? While you're at it, tell me how long the 360 has been out?

Only because people aren't making good games for it, once the 1st party killers get out then peoples perceptions will change.

You haven't played the wii have you?

The old game rating system is on an average for the virtual console.

Do you think the original mario bros can score a 7 in graphics nowadays?

I'm saying why isn't the Wii producing games that are good enough to outscore retro games? Live has some pretty high rated retro games as well, but their current gen library is impressive enough that it is outscoring their retro games. That's what I'm saying. Why isn't the Wiis current gen library that good?

probably because when devs make games for 360 or ps3, they can port them over. with wii it will most likely only be for the wii.

Um, care to back that up there chief?  Last i checked, having only like TWO games worth getting (Twilight Princess, Trauma Center and MAYBE FOR SOME PEOPLE WarioWare), doesn't necessarily count as "Lots of them"

Now what sure-fire hits does it have down the pipeline?  Metroid, Mario, Smash Bros, Paper Mario (maybe), No More Heroes (maybe), Dewy's Adventure (maybe).  I have a Wii, and its collecting dust BECAUSE THERE AREN'T ANY GOOD GAMES.

Ooooh, hey, do you hear that?  That's the sound of failure... that's exactly what you sound like right now.

"Lots" would be a heavy exaggeration. When I'm forced to play Gamecube games on my Wii, you know there's a drought. Even then, I've played the 3 best games for the Wii (Twilight Princess, Trauma Center, Wario Ware), and they hardly compare to other consoles' offerings. It's sad that the game I've enjoyed the most on the Wii is a 3 hour mini-game collection, as fun as it was.

It most certainly does, but after the 20-30 hours of that game... what will you play 'till the Fall? The next killer-app worthy game is Metroid Prime 3, and that isn't looking to release any time soon.

Again, it's all up to opinion. How many games were "worth getting" the first 5 months of the 360's life (or the PS3, for that matter)? I'm satisfied by my Wii. I don't console-collect, so I won't be getting any of the other consoles, but I'm glad that I'm saddled with Nintendo for the long haul.

For me, I plan on getting a Wii at some point; and, as I didn't get a gamecube I'll pick up several GCN games that I missed out on, like Metroid Prime, and Mario. Then, there's the virtual console.
One big reason that Wii doesn't have decent third party games is just the fact that most developers didn't care about it until it was such a big hit at E3 2006. Suddenly, they realized that there was in fact a market to be exploited and started cranking out half-hearted games to get something out there.
Another thing is that Nintendo tends not to be very forthcoming with specs, and development tools. One piece of evidence for that is the rumble pack for the DS, a coder at Bethesda said that the product had been out for close to a year before Nintendo released a development toolkit to allow third party programmers use it.

Aside from Motorstorm, and VF5, I've played every game on that list. From what I've played, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, PGR3, and Condemned all very much deserve to be there.

Anyways, oblivion and splinter cell.. already have them for my 360. Don't like fighting games so Virtua fighter sucks.

So lets redo this list

Resistance
Motorstorm

Wii
Twilight Princess
Trauma Center
Wario Ware
Madden nfl 07
Super Monkey Ball
(Paper Mario)
And a crapload of very good VC games that I have never played and am having heaps of fun with

Gamespot has given most games on the Wii low scores because they can't get used to the controls, but there are some great titles out now...

Why is Rainbow Six Vegas not on the 360 list? It scored 9.1 and should be in 4th place.

Ahhhh I love the smell of fighting in the morning. Good morning everyone (here in the west coast if ur in the east coast or not the in the US at all the hahahahah im living in the past). glad to see all the usual wii hate threads are back up again. I wanna join in the hate too! The wii has no good games at all! I mean just look at the PS3 lineup and you will see that the ps3 not only has great graphics but all the games are just fun to play. Wii games are not fun to play. The only reason people are buying it because its the "in" thing to do. Sales will drop down by februar...I mean June.

If you liked Warioware, you might like Monkey Ball. I didn't like it. Opinion.

Madden was a TON of fun, and I'm not a sports game fan, either. It's especially fun if you have someone else to play it with you. If you like X-sports games, I'd also suggest SSX:Blur. Reviewers bash it, but once you master the controls (which are surprisingly deep) it becomes a LOT of fun.

The same reason that the PS3 hasn't got very many good games. It's a new console. Xbxo360 has been out for much longer.

9. Tiger Woods 07 8.2

10. COD3 8.2

Why are the retro games on the Wii outscoring the "next-gen" games? And what does that mean?

darth-pyschosis

YEAH i totally expect the Wii to have as many great titles as the 360 when it launched 5 months ago:roll:

Did you even LOOK at the games on the 360s list? COD2, Burnout Revenge, Oblivion, Kameo, DOA4, PDZ and (i believe GRAW) are all within the 360s first 5 months of its launch. You fail.

I am waiting for Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Metriod and a few other 1st party games - THEN I will buy a Wii. Right now, there isn't anything on it worth buying. Except the two Gamecube ports - Zelda and Paper Mario.

Lazy devs.  Yes this is an overused argument, but it is true.  There are WAY too many PS2 ports, even PSP ones

Nintendo is also partly to blame.  They're slow in handing out dev kits, and their online ones were just shipped out a month or so ago.

Tell me why most of PS3's top rated games can be found on the 360? While you're at it, tell me how long the 360 has been out?16bitkevin

Why don't you tell me why most of the top rated 360 games are on PS3?

You do realize that only 2 games on the PS3 list are exclusive, right? Why buy a PS3 when you can pick up a 360 and play the same "highest rated" games? Furthermore, the 360 has been out for a full year longer than the Wii. This thread fails.

Firstly the Wii has some great games, secondly a new control scheme takes a while to adjust to. Finally because the Wii is riding on a wave of hype and positive press at the moment many developers are creating shameless ports and cash-ins from last-gen. This shall end soon and the real Wii games will start to surface.

Here's two better questions:

Why are you using the 360 on this list which has been out a year?

Why can most of those PS3 games be found on the 360?

Furthermore, why does not being exclusive make a game bad? And why doesn't Wii have any good multiplat games?

Because Wii consumers demand the same franchised garbage and will purchase any game, for the 20th time, as long as it has a respected marketing icon pasted across the front of the box.  A marketing icon, Mario for example, will artifically inflate the quality of the game by several points, and exploit a gamers' psycological assosation between previous quality (old Mario games that fully utilized the technology of a past gen) and the quality of the current game they are playing.  Such consumers' standards and expectations have fallen so low that they can no longer distinguish good ideas from bad ideas within the field of gaming.

Instead, they judge games and systems through a process of past-pscycological assosiation, and adopt an almost cult-like following towards several marketing icons.  Many gamers have simply lost the ability to critically think and judge a game fairly within the broader context of entertainment media.

The problem described above is a problem on all consoles, but can be seen its worst and more wide-spread form on the Wii.

This is only one of several explantions that culminates in the decline in quality of Wii games.

The wii will have a huge amount of good and great and perfect games really soon because developers go to is selling the most, and if you look at time frames and rate of sale, as in how many per how fast, and wii wins in that respect so devs will will be making alot of great games really soon. plus we have ssbb, smg, mp3 project hammer, disaster day or w/e to look forward to. wii has great games now and will continue to produce them when people finally give up on sony.

It's a brand-new system. You expect a killer library already?

The XBox 360 has loads of great games because it's been out over a year. The PS3 has several great games, but most of them are ports of XBox 360 games. The Wii, due to its inferior hardware, can't simply have games ported over to it from the XBox 360 like the PS3 can. If you compare exclusive games, however, and not counting retro games, you'll find that the PS3 and the Wii have about the same number of quality exclusives. In fact, the Wii might have more.

According to you, the Wii can't generate good games with its unique control scheme.  The Wii doesn't have good multiplats because the multiplats it does have are half-assed ports.  This means we have to compare exclusives on the Wii.  Which leads me to ask you: why are you comparing Wii exclusives to multiplatform games?
