Why did Enslaved fail?

Yeah there are a few exceptions. But they are the exceptions and not the rule.

But Valve deserve no love. They only allow broken and unfinished products on steam because they know people want to play a game as soon as possible and they want their 1/3rd of the price.

It's not always good to give people what they want. Heck, I would love to play No Man's Sky already, but I know it's just a broken and unfinished product now. So that is why it's not on sale...

Valve even changed their policy saying an early access game might never be finished or feature complete EVER. Disgusting.

My friend, Valve are wonderful people whom everyone should love. The concept of early access is very good. The execution i.e. the third party are the bad peoples. Valve putting up a message was a kind deed to help people. Because Valve sadly cannot trust people who are not Valve.

Nope. Valve wants their 1/3rd, yet they will take zero responsibility if you are left with an unplayable, broken or unfinished game.

They put profit above all else. They aren't kind-hearted. They are a business, they have no heart.

But they are. Taking responsibility would put them at risk. Valve have faith in people. You should have faith in them.

If not for them, pc would be dead or worse, EA.

What's kind hearted of them ? Giving away the top three wishlisted games to 30 people each day ?

Meanwhile, people are spending lots of money on tokens and trading cards so their team wins. Making Valve way more money than they lose each day giving away 90 games...

Valve pretends it's a game. It's just a stupid way to get people into competiton and spend money.

They saved gaming. Promote pc gaming. Give free games. Support mac, linux and other platforms nobody cares or should care about. Big picture mod. In-home streaming. Helping mod teams now become fully fledged developers. Helping modders and map makers make money. contumaciously support a product with constant updates for almost a decade. Free HD updates to halflife 2.

My chumling, that was simply 10 and a half seconds of thinking. It's pretty endless really.

You (as in you) can say "oh oh ohhhh ohhhhhheweeeee but they want to make money".

Yes, of course. The difference is they do it primarily through bettering the consumer experience as well as simultaneously helping other want-to-be and fully blown developers. Very few (if any) regardless of PR buzz talk, actually do this. None, as monumentally good willed as the mighty Valve, who we should all admire.

Yeah I really enjoyed it... I guess there were other games out at the time that took all the attention.

My friend, i'v always respected you and found t he Irish character to be the best from Bravehart. But I feel with this hand holding comment, you have done yourself a great disservice.

It's not a stretch to call it a failure since it fell below sales expectations and so the planned sequel was cancelled. That screams failure to me.

Eh. It was incredibly disappointing, but I still enjoyed it. I'm very easy to please in the hack 'n slash genre, though. I haven't played NG3 yet, but something tells me I would probably still score it a 6 or 7.

It failed due to poor marketing. There's been decades of evidence indicating that the quality of a game is not the decisive factor for commercial success.

The gameplay needs more work. The story however was pretty damned good. The lighter moments could have been done a little better though.

But what deserves the most credit is the DLC - Pigsy's Perfect 10. Simple story but it put me on the verge of tears.

3 reasons:

1) the game was stupid. The world is overrun by sentient machines, and some guy with a whacking stick can defeat them.

2) The girl was the most annoying character ever. Seriously, when that boss takes off with her (and she keeps screeching "moooonkeeee!"), I wanted nothing more for the robot to pop her head like a zit. Why would I try to save her? Oh, that's right - I had no choice.

3) the end was dumb.

@uninspiredcup: replace valve with Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo, and it's easy to realize that herms are as bad if not worse than console fanboys. Truth.

It had piss poor combat, bland level design, and an atrocious plot that turns Journey to the west into the fucking matrix.

Game sucks.

I enjoyed it. Didn't finish it though (need to look for my save file that I backed up before formatting my PC)

I enjoyed it but combat can be tedious and the ending was fucking weird leaving a bad taste. Also framerate didn't feel smooth.... felt like it ran at 20 fps but maybe that was only the PS3 version?

Really liked the visuals, characters and setting.

I thought it sucked. Boring combat, boring platforming, and simplistic puzzles made it not very enjoyable to play. Apparently the game had a good narrative, but I only made it like 4 hours in before I threw in the towel and went on to play something more interesting.

Probably because it had a somewhat unique presentation and not a ton of marketing. It also had borderline non-existent gameplay and a story that shits itself at the end.

Anyone who buys an Alpha project expecting a finished project is a dumbass. Just saying.

I loved the characters and setting of their previous game Heavenly Sword, but I didn't like the story, protagonists, the gameplay or the setting of Enslaved. I wanted something more complex.
