Why do 360 fans seem to like shooters so much ?

More like the whole of today's gaming audience have an obsession with mainstream shooters.

don't get me wrong, shooters are great. but i think its nice to have some variety. i just seems 360 fans do not feel the same way, just look at alan wake something a bit different but it just didn't sell. Where as Heavy rain on the PS3 was a great success.

It's a fanbase thing, there are other games on 360 that I love that aren't shooters but they seemed less talked about compared to shooters.

Shooters are far and away the top sellers on 360. Halo 3, ODST, Gears 1 & 2, COD4, COD W@W, MW2...I think GTA4 is the only non shooter that has cracked that group at the top of 360 sales. I think Halo is the reason. Halo has proven to be a major force in gaming. Look at how many 360 consoles are selling right now. You think thats really because of Kinect or Fable 3? No its Halo Reach. Halo has continued to be the force behind 360 just like it was on Xbox. So what do 360 owners play when they are tired of Halo? Answer: COD and Gears of War. At least most of them do. 360 does have some other titles, but are in general lacking in most other genres. For all the talk about the 360 library, it still boils down to Halo and a few other titles. Playstation has always had a diverse fan base. Watch how many people buy Gran Turismo 5. The prologue alone sold well over 3 million copies. Yeah, it´s a bit sad to see great games like Banjo N&B and Alan Wake sell like crap on 360! I think MS didnt gave them importance enough.

A lot of those games aren't even shooters. Most are multiplats or ports, that sold next to nothing. The others varely qualify as shooters but i'd rather not argue.

We are looking for evidence that the 360 fanbase only like shooters, and the 360 library is made up mostly of shooters. A list full of multiplats and shovelware isn't really much evidence, especially when im sure the PS3 ahs tons of shovelware exclusive japanese shooters

Edit: If Crackdown is a shooter, so is the ratchet and clank series, andif Raiden Fighter Ace is a shooter, so is twistedmetal and wipeout

I also forgot Haze,Warhawk, time crisis 4plus some more

I like shooters, but it's not because I'm a 360 gamer. It's the reverse-- I like the 360 partly because I like shooters.

You do know the conversation i'm having is regarding exclusive shooters right? Hence why COD hasn't been listed. I'm disputing the fact that the 360 has more exclusive shooters then the PS3.

I am a 360 fan, and out of all 35 games I own for the system (XBLA and disc), 5 of them can be cIassed as a "shooter."

The Darkness, Doom, Battlefield: Bad Company, Perfect Dark HD and Duke Nukem 3D. And out of those 5 games, I only like 3 (Doom, PDHD and DN3D).

And most aren't exclusive. Also, a game you call a shooter a lot wouldnt agree with. Is infamous a shooter? You shoot electric at people .... you even have a sniper electric grenade, and electric RPG, etc ...

This. There's three "major" platforms that have contributed to the oversaturation of FPS games and yet of course, only the Microsoft one gets the attention and blame. What did MS do to you guys? They get so much unwarranted hate for no reason. One might think they tied you up and made you watch as they murdered your whole family.

To me PS3 and 360 both suffer from the "too many FPS games" syndrome. It'd be nice if both focused on releasing fewer FPS and more other types of games. This goes for PC as well.

Really? You are the one calling people stupid fanboys while at the same time calling Crackdown a shooter.

I honestly do not believe the situation is much different on the PS3.

Either way, does shooters being fun not answer the question? There really no other answer. Shooters obviously aren't all that sell though. Alan Wake is just one game. That really proves nothing. I'd say it comes down more to marketing. If Microsoft put in the same sort of effort in marketing Alan Wake as they did Gears or Halo it would have sold better. And hey, just because Alan Wake didn't sell millions does not mean it didn't sell.
