First off, its not released in a big shopping season.. March is not comparable with november and december.. People dont buy presents for their relatives or friends and that means there is little chance that casuals will drop 600 bucks Secondly, Sony did many things to scare playstation fans off.. There are many playstation fans appearantly.. But the current lineup is not appealing to the crowd.. The drop of the EE in the PS3 is making it a crippled BC system (I agree that this will get better by time).. also if there are millions and millions of playstation fans.. how did the PS3 only sell 700k in Japan when PS2 sold like 20 million..? Thirdly, In NA PS3 had Madden.. But PS3 in Europe has no FIfa or Proevo soccer..

The ps3 lineup sucked for Japan and it still sucks , but it is flippin awesome for Europeans so don't kid yourself sheep. It is by far the best launch of any system in any territory.

It is a good launch but it still doesn't have a Soul Calibur or Halo quality game to it.

Does it really matter to playstation fans ? They see 2 big launch apps right in front of them with these other games - VF5 , F1 , RR7 , Oblivion , COD 3 , Ubisoft games , etc. By far the best launch for any of the fanboys and I would even argue that it the best for European manticores with Resistance , Motorstorm , and F1.

Europe is setting records for the number or preoders for the system. And europe bought 40/110 mill of the ps2 sold worldwide. They are a huge part of the market for sony. And they do have great games to get, right away they get resistance and motorstorm plus others

I expect...the same results we have here in the US. Ample supply for moderate demand.

Just to be clear are we talking success in sales or rated games. I have to reiterate myself because you could very well be correct because I'm going to assume this is sales because the TC is implying that it PS3 will flop in Europe. I don't think it will flop in Europe I was just saying that it doesn't have  a Halo/Soul Calibur game launching with it. I was mistaken and forgot we were talking about sales my bad.

Motorstorm and Resistance is what i mentioned above

F1 seems to be a horrible game

How would F1 be a horrible game ? 7.2 here at gamespot and it appeals to the territory and looks nice. I am sure they are going to market the game pretty well over there. If those games didn't sell , why would they even make them ?

And as I have stated before , there are a ton of fanboys that have never played any of those multiplats before. Do you expect them to say "heck no" because the 360 is out there and heck no to all of the playstation exclusives that they want in the future ? I am sorry but fanboys don't work that way.

multiplats cant be systemsellers.. especially games that came out like one year ago..

GTA on Xbox did sell fairly well but it wasnt a system seller right..?
F1 games arent crazy popular.. they come out every year and a certain audience buys them thats all..

That didn't make any sense. I already listed the 2 exclusive system sellers and another good exclusive game for the territory and those are for playstaion fans and manticores both. Then I could probably list 10 great multiplat games for the playstation faithful who have yet to play those games. How is that not a great launch ?

because those games are out for either a year or about 6 month now..? how is the accumulation of old releases a great line up..

and yes the playstation faithful will buy it..

but it seems the number of PSzealots are not as big as people predicted..

PS3 still has to pass the million mark in Japan and it barely sold one million in NA

I don't there as being any middle ground for the launch in Europe because every where I go it is still possible to preorder the thing. This to me means one of two things:

1. Sony have provided a huge supply for Europe and will sell an outrageous amount on launch day.

2. There is a complete lack of demand.

On a side note:

I went into my local Game the other week and saw a sign saying they had 20 PS3 preorders left. I went back a few days later and the number had changed to 30. Makes me wonder if they were given even more stock or if was a marketting ploy to try and convince customers they were running out.

When I finally get a ps3 , I will probably run through Splinter Cell , Rainbow Six , COD 3 , etc , between the system sellers. I am sure there are a lot of people that are ready for Oblivion as well. Other people will want to play VF5 right now and have absolutely no interest in a 360.

That also makes absolutely no sense. There are enough people that know what is coming in the future. The Getaway , Singstar , GT5 , Eye Toy games , and all of the other exclusives. The "brand" will only help the matter because Sony delivered for them and they know what kind of longterm support they are going to get.

Becouse thay know the PS brand. But gamers like my self, will own X360 and PS3, i just dont see the point in the Wii. (even tho i understand why a casual would buy it) Whatever consol wins this "war" I just hope all will survive. Becouse I like them all, including Nintendo(not so much for the Wii tho)

Ive been working at WHSmith for 6 weeks

You know how many preorders we have for PS3?

One

Its just too expensive. Its a brilliant machine, but nobody will pay 400-500 quid for it.

Meh, its right by Game and Gamestation so they would just drift in. But youve got a fair point.

The number of Wii enquiries we get is unreal

Because it is sold out everywhere so people are desperate and will try anywhere.

All I know is that Smiths would be low on my list of places to buy video games from on the highstreet.

I went into my local Game the other week and saw a sign saying they had 20 PS3 preorders left. I went back a few days later and the number had changed to 30. Makes me wonder if they were given even more stock or if was a marketting ploy to try and convince customers they were running out.
cakeorrdeath
They were given more to be sure, theres been multiple shipments for all the large retailers from what I've come to understand.

[QUOTE="farnham"][QUOTE="Nike_Air"][QUOTE="farnham"][QUOTE="Nike_Air"]That didn't make any sense. I already listed the 2 exclusive system sellers and another good exclusive game for the territory and those are for playstaion fans and manticores both. Then I could probably list 10 great multiplat games for the playstation faithful who have yet to play those games. How is that not a great launch ?

Nike_Air
because those games are out for either a year or about 6 month now..? how is the accumulation of old releases a great line up..

How is it not a great lineup ? Great games are great games and they will stay on peoples radars. When I finally get a ps3 , I will probably run through Splinter Cell , Rainbow Six , COD 3 , etc , between the system sellers. I am sure there are a lot of people that are ready for Oblivion as well. Other people will want to play VF5 right now and have absolutely no interest in a 360.

because normal people look at the games and the price of the console and not just the brand..?

That also makes absolutely no sense. There are enough people that know what is coming in the future. The Getaway , Singstar , GT5 , Eye Toy games , and all of the other exclusives. The "brand" will only help the matter because Sony delivered for them and they know what kind of longterm support they are going to get.

none of the games you mentioned are launch games

Well, here in Australia, the PS3 launch will be shocking IMO. The price of it is $1000 here (784 USD), some people are now refusing to buy one because of the PS2 compatibility (because basically most gamers in Australia own a PS2 and a lot of games for it), the launch titles are just mostly ports that people already own on another console AND the Xbox 360 and the Wii are miles cheaper.

Also, the majority of Australia don't care for Blu-Ray, we are fine with DVD at the moment. I never see any Blu-Ray players selling anywhere, because not all Australians have 1080p compatible HDTV's in the first place. I seriously think that Sony need to fix their mistakes and start thinking about marketing the PS3 properly.

" none of the games you mentioned are launch games "

Again , that makes no sense. We already went over that they have 2 big launch apps . But people also know what is undoubtedly coming down the line.

You think early adopting fans ONLY buy for what is directly in front of their faces ? Where is Mario ? Where is Metroid ? Where is SSBB ? Where is Mario Kart ? Where is Halo 3 ? Where is Ninja Gaiden 2 ?

I don't think it is going to be all that big because I see pre-order signs up at EVERY gaming store still. By the way i'm in Oxford and I can't be bothered to take photos and upload them.

[QUOTE="farnham"][QUOTE="Nike_Air"]The ps3 lineup sucked for Japan and it still sucks , but it is flippin awesome for Europeans so don't kid yourself sheep. It is by far the best launch of any system in any territory.

Nike_Air
i saw it and i only see multiplats outside of Motorstorm and Resistance Japan already has this titles

Best launch? Its goddamned pathetic. VF5, multiplat. F1 trash RR7, basically RR6, Oblivion... I'm sure people who wanted it that much would have it already geez. Resistance? Do you know how many shooters the X360 has that are better or of comparable quality. Motorstorm? Pgr 3 8.8, burnout 8.8. Nough said. Its barely better than the X360's launch, x360 had 4 8.7-8.8 games(high AA) and a AAA...

From what I hear the inital release of the PS3 in Europe will be limited so it won't be an astounding success especially as last weeks news about BC games will only put some people off. Also unlike everywhere else there is only the 60GB option to buy from.

If the price is lowered or the option of getting either a 20 or 60 GB hard drive and more PS3's are available at launch then it might have more success.

I read somewhere (forgot where ) that Sony is shipping 1 million PS3s for the Europe launch. Oh and about the BC, theres 1000 PS2 games playable at launch, with more to come with firmware updates. No one is gona play over 1000 PS2 games on a PS3...

But PS3 in Europe has no FIfa or Proevo soccer.. farnham

Stop being jealous and worrying about something you don't have.  Pretty sad!

Well how about this? Why won't it be an astounding success in Europe?Blackbond
Exactly the same reason that is killing demand in the states, Price!!!! Add the fact that the 20 GIG model is likely not to go on sale in every country and a price several HUNDRED dollars higher than in the US.

I expect...the same results we have here in the US. Ample supply for moderate demand.

I see you have console envy as well.

You're joking right? The PS3 in Europe will have pretty much the best launch line-up ever.

Secondly, we love the PlayStation brand to the point where the word is synonymous with gaming.

Finally, Sony have the oppertunity to make a great 1st impression, most of the flaws that the other regions experienced will be fixed by the launch and the line up should ensure non-stop positive press. I'm sure the PS3 will be big here.

I have to disagree with this. Most of the flaws weren't fixed the one and only flaw the BC was taken out and removed completely

No, they're just switching to software emu. Over 1,000 PS1 and PS2 titles will be supported.

you make no sense whats so ever. you want to know the games i own a 360? Gears of war, Kameo, and Lost planet. do you want to know why i only have 3 games? becaus the rest i have on my pc due to alot of games being muli plat. if it was not for gears of war i would not own a 360. Sony on the ohter hand have lots of exclusive that i liked on the ps2.  Mass effect, and Bio shock ill be getting for the pc. rather play on my sli 7900gt set up.

now we all know at first sony will sell every ps3 they get to europe because they are last in line and they have been waiting the longest. i think not having a soccer game in the lineup hurts alittle, and the price is alittle high. i think the hype will die down in europe much like it did here and in japan.

They said the same for Japan- Look what happened They said the same for North America- Look what happened. They even tried to piggyback off of Canada- Look what happened Its not even selling well in its own country yet Europe is suppose to embrace it with open arms? Whats next, when it flops in Europe the cows will be looking to the "South African" launch?
