First, I think I should clear up a few things before I start.

1) The only game I play online is MK:DS.

2) I have never played a Smash Bros game.

So then, I heard that SSBM is going to have online fighting. This is what people desired correct? It seems that it wont have any voice chat. This has caused a good amount of whining. So here is the question.

Why does it need voice chat?

You may use other games that have voice chat to prove the claim that it isNEEDED in SSBM. Please note the stress in NEEDED.

I look forward to the reasons :).

Its really not NEEDED in any games, though it does make most of the games if the community is good more enyojable a lot more!

Also cant imagine playing action games that require team work without voice chat!

Certain games, like R6: Vegas and GeoW rely on voice chat.

SSB doesn't really need it, but Nintendo should still make it available for future games.

SSBB is a very fast game once you master it, voice chat wouldnt be needed while playing , but it would make a nice addition before or after the fight.

I think voice chat is needed the most at FPS games.

Exactly, you play Nintendo games online. Play some Xbox games and you wil realise Voice chat makes the experience so much better. Especially in Team play and Co-op. Yeah it can be annoying when people trash talk but you can mute them. And stop defending nintendo's online system. You're making yourself look silly.

other games may need it, but SSBM really doesnt. especially since when people do multiplayer in smash, they usually end up going "OHHHH!" and "AHHHH!" or yelling, and id imagine that would be very painful on the ears if it were coming through a headset

with a bunch of mates it can lead to a better experience. having a laugh with them while kicking seven shades of crap out of em...good fun. yeah u can do it using a PC but its awkward and annoying. it would also be nice to be able to talk to the ppl ure playing with even if there not on the list. communication is a pretty big part of online play. without that...i may as well be playing against the CPU.

voice chat is also essential for more tactical games....u need to be able to coordinate with ure team to be effective.

the big prob with nintendo is more that there not providing any means of communicating on wii yet. the pre defined messages are pathetic to be honest and u cant use a keyboard (for practical and technical reasons). nintendo are just dragging their heels on this one and are behaving too much like nannys. cmon ninty...its a wireless headset....not exactly the invention of brand new tech here. a simple bluetooth headset would do the trick nicely. and stop with the stupid restrictions.

so far the only positives i have to say about the wii and DS online is that there free and there reliable (DS does have voice comms but its restricted to friends only....very poor imho). however i also get free and reliable gaming online on my PC and i can communicate to whoever i want, whenever i want, with whatever means i want to use.

ninty....get it sorted.

I don't need it. I played call of duty online with no voice chat and it was still hella fun. I can't wait to play brawl online.

I don't know about SSBM but in other gameslike shooters voice chat is very useful

For example. On COD4 Beta, say there were 2 people in a house, 1 Was snipering upstairs and the other was downstairs. Now an enemy knifes the person downstairs, without voice chat you wouldn't be able to warn your team mate there is an enemy in the building!

voice chat adds to the experience. you can chat with team members to form stratigys and tell them what to do. in SSBB it prolly isnt a big deal but what is a big deal is no rankings. thoose 2 added together shows why nintendo has an inferrior online system compared to 360 and ps3

And even send short messages during brawls!

These short messages are entered in advance, and you send them by taunting. There are four messages for the four directions on the + Control Pad: Up, down, left and right.

I think this is pretty genious and quite hilarious, and you will never get yelled at by 12yr olds.

Personally I dislike voice chat, especially after getting to know the halo 2 fanbase online.......

....Listening to 13-20 year olds scream n*****, C***, and whatever else they think is edgy gets old fast, I just mute it, it makes it more enjoyable.

Many many people use ventrilo and teamspeak to communicate to others when playing WoW, trust me, its definitly big when it comes to that game.

It's still not part of the program, you have to the trouble toaragne it externally and get eveyone else using it, nothing to stop you doing this for any game.

Honeslty thats fine. Think about it its not a action packed game. I type for strategy games on my PC. I think some sort of communication is needed for Bwii but SSBB i could care less if it has. Its gonna be a amzing game none the less. I also predicting Nintendo will connect 4 people online for BWii. 2v2 matches 2 friends vs 2 other firends. All in different locations. Which would be perfect for me.

But what about the spontaneous nature of smack talk? This system is hardly flexible enough to cover most of the situations that occur when playing SSB. If something unexpected happens, how could you possibly relay your feelings to your opponents?

Not to mention that the messages that you do send will have to be general, and won't be in response to anything specific that happens in the game you are playing.

So they say, on system wars. Honestly, most people here don't believe half the things they post. I was told that damage modeling was meaningless, and then told the exact opposite when it was announced for GT5. I was told that graphics don't matter, until a media source said that a wii game looked good. If voice chat was announced for SSBB tomorrow, the same people who said it doesn't matter would tell you its integral to online gaming, thank goodness SSBB has it.

It NEEDS voice chat to prove that Nintendo is actually going to do something with WiiConect24. What a stupid name. Maybe they should start with changing that.
