I mean in pdz, the 360 controller works so perfectly with it because there is no auto aim and mark my words, it takes more skill to play pdz than most pc shooters, which is why noobs and little kidz don't play it and thats fine by me. Theres still lotsa people playing it online.

What does keyboard and mouse do besides give you an unfair advantage and make you feel like your surfiing the net, when your actually playing a game?

Wheres the challange if you admit that keyboard mouse gives you an advantage? And if theres no challange, then wheres the fun?

I couldn't imaging playing with a keyboard and mouse, it would just feel silly and akward.

It's all in preference, I normally prefer a joystick but the keyboard and mouse just works better for shooters. But that doesn't mean they take more skill, just that you are more accurate.

play pc games for a while then go play console games. having a mouse is much faster and accurate then a joypad.

While it does take more practice and eventual skill to own in a console FPS, don't knock kb/m. It's a really good control scheme for FPS games.

Because it is easier and it takes more skill to use a controller.

Keyboards and mice are better for shooters period. Mice are practically made for FPSs due to their high rate of accuracy. Keyboards give you more chat options and command options. Shooters were made for the PC, and they will always be best for the PC. Now I still love my Halo 2 and Rainbow Six, but lets be realistic, those games are/will probably be better on the PC (Halo 2 is coming out for the PC). Doing things with your toes is more of a challenge than with your fingers, does that make it better?

They say it's easier. I don't mind the mouse bit, but using a keyboard is rubbish. I wore out my S, I know it's below W but you can't read it.

If you're asking why, you obviously haven't had extensive experience with pc games. Take me for instance, I grew up with both and I largely prefer KB+Mouse (save for fighting and sports games) over the controller anyday. It's much easier to control and the accuracy it provides is unmatched. Thus for example, it takes much more skill to be good at shooters since you have to be lightning fast and deadly accurate at the same time. BTW it's not like pc gamers play against console gamers on a regular basis, so I don't know where you're getting this unfair advantage junk.

How about Doom 3? How about CS? Wolfenstein? (not sure if D3 or Wolf were for PC, but I know that CS was and that game is the best).

Keyboard and Mouse give you better control and more buttons... try plugging in an Xbox 360 controller and playing a multiplayer PC FPS online, and you'll notice the difference.

imagine trying to play starcraft with 8 buttons? rts is king juss because you can hotkey a lot of commands.

i think fps is king cuz the aiming for the mouse leaves a lot of room to find a perfect sensitivity because the range of motion is bigger than with a stick...

I don't brag about the fact of using it, I'd just say I'd crunch someone using a joypad like an aluminum can because the mouse ends up being much more accurate in the end, if you've got the coordination to handle it.

You have never played a PC game, have you? And the kb/m gives an advantage over console controllers because of its better accuracy, not over over kb/m unless you bought a expensive mouse with a expensive mousepad(like mine). And how the hell does playing a PC game make you feel like your surfing the net?

EDIT: for some reason it was quoted twice.

The reason why it takes more skill to use a gamepad is simple: it's not as natural for shooters.  Using a joystick is not only less accurate than using a mouse, it makes much less sense.  When you move objects in real life, you don't usually think about moving the object at a constant speed for a certain amount of time, you think about moving an object from one point to another, regardless of speed.  That's why the mouse is much more natural, you move it from one point to another, and the speed at which you move the mouse has no effect on the place the cursor goes, it directly affects the speed.  When using a mouse, your motions are conveyed as such, although the computer dilates your motions.  On the other hand, you don't actually control the position of the cursor directly with a joystick, you control the speed of your movements, an unnatural feeling when doing precise movements that are meant to represent hand movements.  In some genres of games, gamepads can be better, paticularly racing sims, as the nature of how to operate cars means that you're using a similar control sceme to that of real life.

I'm pretty sure in UT3 there's interviews talking about them deciding to keep PC and console gamers separate for online for the time being, almost entirely because of the kb/m thing... And in Shadowrun, they've been hard at working trying to make kb/m more difficult to use while giving controllers sticky aim and light auto-aim. :) Just trying to strike the right balance of that to even things out and make it fair.

The Keyboard and Mouse is so damned accurate and responsive... It's always gonna beat a joypad in FPS. For other games, joypads wins... Except World of Warcraft and Guild Wars.

It makes it more effective, and I think most people saying 'kb/m is better' are saying it in the context of competition. A stripped Noble M12 might not be a 'better' car than.. say, a loaded 5-series (because maybe they want satnav in a car, damn the performance!), but in the context of putting the two up against each other on a track you know what's going to happen.

Better accuracy means it is better in the aspects of accuracy therefore it is superior in a way. And do not tell me it is less accurate because you already acknowledged the fact that it is.

KB/M is far and away the best control yet for games that are mostly about aiming at targets or clicking on small objects, and gamepads are far and away the best control for games that are mostly about changing position carefully.  So, PC gamers are really just saying that console controllers are much worse than KB/M for games like Supreme Commander and Crysis, and they're right.  Console gamers usually get so offended at the idea that they forget to counter that gamepads are better than KB/M for games like Gran Turismo and Ninja Gaiden.  Granted, you can buy gamepads made for PC; but some games just aren't published for PCs.  Oh well, people like to take sides, regardless of whatever are the relevant facts.

KB/M is way better for FPS.

The mouse is way more accurate. I've had to change the sensitivity in Halo 2 so much times because when people shoot at you from behind, it would take so long to turn around. With a mouse you turn in a split second. The keyboard just goes nicely with the mouse.

Not to say a controller is terrible, but if you plan on playing Unreal Tournament on console against people on PC, PC would be a clear winner.

Neither is better. Both have pros. Both have cons. Some peoples' hands simply naturally fit one or the other. There is no one thing that makes one better than the other. Both work fine for whatever job you're doing. Both require much skill to "master." Interfaces aren't noobified, people are. No matter how hard you try, your speech isn't going to change anyones mind. What on earth is wrong with you people. /thread.

Not true.  If you don't believe me, imagine trying to play Dead or Alive with KB/M, or WarCraft 3 with a gamepad.

Nope, controller is better.

That is an opinion, not a fact.

Yeah, I know, I was doing what you were doing. :D

Yeah, I know, I was doing what you were doing to other people back to you.

Look, I just hate when people here think KB/M are some kind of godly devices. It's a all a matter of personal preference, but people don't understand.

Indeed.

Yeah but fighters rarely ever come out on PC.

Why do runners wear running shoes?  Because they want the best performance.  Could they run in snow shoes?  Sure they could, doesn't make snow shoes good for running.  It's just the same with controller and KB+M.  KB+M is just the best for performance.  Controller can get you by, but it doesn't make it better by any stretch of the imagination.

I hatee KB/M now beause it's old, uncomfortable, needs lots of space, and just plain tiring. Thats why consoles will always be better for gaming. FPSing won't be as precise on console but since the two types don't collide, its fine.
