Good games dont need hype, or fanboys to defend them.

Scores are not given a second chance at gamespot :P
Company of Heroes says hello. You're just jelly because I'm the highest rated exclusive of the year.Sorry state when the top rated exclusive is so generic.
So overused its like throwing a grey/brown hotdog down that linear corridor quicktime event.
Would you consider yourself a T rating aswell :P
one cant really hype their games when they have a 90% piracy rate, are drowning in facebook and f2p games, and have to spend 800 or so to acquire a worthwhile computer...and why hype something that the majority wont be paying for?
WilliamRLBaker
So we can't hype games because of piracy rates and F2P?
What...your posts are as stupid as you look.

PC gamers as a demographic ren't as compact as console gamers.
That's it, I think. Very few games stimulate an interest in all PC gamers, and even then we don't all flock around to talk about it. Starcraft 2 was a fine example of this (although its hype thread was a major flamewar for the nabs that thought it was multiplatform because it was also on Mac, LMAO).
Oh and Diablo 3 is going to eat the faces of every hater ITT
Too many games. If PC gamers hyped all the upcomign games the board would consist almost entirely of hype threads.
tenaka2
The flop rate on the board would triple.

Na, PC gamers are a little more realistic then the console kids.

A console gamer that says a gaming PC costs less than 3000 dollar ? Awesome :D

Because many PC games are indie titles and lower budgeted, riskier titles, so if they hype, say, "Jason Jackson's Fish Simulator 5000" nobody knows what GS will think of it. If a game sounds amazing to a PC gamer, it could be really niche and bomb with certain critics. In some cases the game might genuinely be bad despite developer promises just because its so damn unpolished or something.
Really, the PC is a risky platform when it comes to the games, and there are a lot of bad games with the good so that is my theory.
Of course if a game is a major, AAA budget title like Diablo 3, The Witcher 2 or Starcraft then they'll still hype the hell out of it.

not much to hype these days since most PC games are made for the consoles also.
Plus most PC gamers are old crusty wise heroic type folk which don't excite too easily compared to the young grasshopper consolers.
Back in my day, before the internets, we only had books to read about games... now i remember this like it was yesturday....................
It is actually the other way around.... Most console games are made for the PC also.not much to hype these days since most PC games are made for the consoles also.

Because, PC gamers still play old games, we don't need the lastest and greatest. Hell there is a whole site dedicated to old games GOG.com and I buy more games from there than i do from PSN and Steam Combined.. PC gamers also aren't filled with young kids who hype anything they see on tv (pc games aren't advertised on tv except wow...which is usually hyped...ironically a game I don't and never will play).
How many console gamers are still playing games from last gen -to 2009? Probably not many ( I do ) but I don't see many on my friends list on PSN playing anything but newer games. Most popular has been Mass Effect3 and cod mw3...while I have been playing Splinter cell, silent hill 2 and final fantasy 13. (Ocassionally I see a jrpg thrown into the list, but they almost always new just released games.)
A lot of pc gamers will go back and play baldu'rs gate or fallout for fun. So many vocal console gamers wouldn't touch those games..saying ..."Ewww the grafixs.. no voice, I have to read? No multiplayer? I ain't buying....blah blah blah, Hit me up on some cod cuz...."
It maybe due to age and demographics. I would like to know the age and demographic (nationality, education, occupation, income level, etc.) differences between console and PC gamers if there is a conncection between hype and age/demographics.mario-galaxysI also agree with this. I think age has a huge bearing on this. Also there is a large portion of pc gamers who play old games. GOG.com success. (of course pc has a lot of graphics whores too..)
No its not just you.. I am playing might and magic 6 on pc along with Avernum: escape from the pit and Legend of Grimlock (the latter two great old school style games in new school paint). I love playing old pc games, favorites, they are built to be timeless. most take hours and hours to beat and have large expansions (not nickel and dime costumes and crap, but full on 12+ hour expansion sets). Also so many genres aren't available anymore but on pc. So many console gamers play the latest and greatest. Its funny though, as a pc gamers first and foremost, I take my pc gaming habits to console too. I have so many old jrpgs from PS1/PS2/PSP era that I replay or play for the first time. I very rarely buy new games. The exceptions are the hd collections and games like diablo3 that I have been waiting for over a decade for...damn you blizzard!!Consoles are reliant on constant shinies, every game is out for a few months and then forgotten forever. Only the occasional game comes out anymore that gets played and replayed on consoles.
The structure of PC games allows for games to last ages and be played for ages so it's easy to alleviate anticipation for upcoming titles.
For example, Guild Wars 2 is my most hyped game, probably ever, but I can easily pass the time with WoW or LoL or WiC. Right now I'm replaying Baldur's Gate 2 all the way through again which is a colossal time sink. Or other people who still play CS after all these years.
But then maybe that's just me.

A few reasons.
1) PC gamers tend to be more realistic in thier expectations in general (not the rule for ALL PC gamers, I have seen some odd things Hyped).
2) Weather you like it or not, a huge segment of Console players, seem to be easily effected by Advertisements, and such. A dev comes out with a CGI trailer and you will see some people begin to hype the game, despite knowing near nothing about it.
3) PC gamers tend to have ALOT of games they play, the Culture of PC gaming itself is so that there are a constant flood of games, for target audiences, we can't hype everything, and even on the PC there are genres and games comming out montly that I never knew existed. I COULD hype alot of the games I find, but I don't. I hype the games that are made with me as a target demographic, but alot of other gamers may NOT be the target audience.
4) as an extention to above, We have alot of games aiming to specific audiences, creating alot of smaller communities. What games I am the target demographic of, does not mean that other people will like them.
5) Most console games are huge AAA tier mass market games, thus allowing a huge segment to look farwards to said game (altho the move to make games as generic to appeal to as large an audience as possible is pretty darn bad in alot of aspects, and create a let down of a game). Most demographic specific Console games are rarely hyped alot either, bt they have those games aswell ^^
6) addendum to above, most AAA games are multiplats, so they are universally hyped, even on the PC. You might not notice it because when the Multiplat AA games are Hyped, its across all platforms.
I think it is somewhat a mix and match of the above. In the end it is just my thoughts, and not an universal truth.
Im too occupied playing Diablo 3 beta and im getting ready next week for Guild wars 2 beta. Im playing league of legends and Starcraft 2 , Rayman origins and im thinking buying Last Story ( Dolphin ) also.No seriously. 90% of the Hype Threads started over here are started by console gamers. Why is that?
You hermits don't have any hype triggers?
ShadowDeathX
No time for hypes , its time to PLAY!
Because PC gamers tend to be older, with jobs, wives and kids, and tend to be more informed in general, and less easily influenced than consolites (consolites in this context referring to teenagers/failed adults that believe they're such "manly" gamers because they don't play on the Wii and its kiddy games).
higher standards lolNo seriously. 90% of the Hype Threads started over here are started by console gamers. Why is that?

This is a typical consolite view. If they hype a game and it makes AAAe status they somehow feel good about having accomplished something (even though they haven't done jack). It's alll about the bullshots and the hype for the game rather than actually enjoying the game. That's why games don't have much longevity on consoles. Once the newness wears off it's dropped for the shinier game. (disclaimer: not all console players are like this)
Well when hemorrhoids can get every game under the sun by just booting up their torrent client, what's there to get excited about?
I'm guessing it's because it's hard to get excited about games that don't have motion controls. The poor souls are still using 1960s technology to play their games :(
Kids are more susceptible to "hype."
Mr_BillGates
That's true. When I was younger, I remember me and the other neighborhood kids comparing the latest and greatest toys and would get into arguments which one is the latest and greatest. I outgrew that even before I became a teen.
Just about the only thing I ever hyped as an adult was my impending marriage to the wife. All that got me was my friends laughing at me..."Man, you're toast. You know she's a control freak, right?"
