This game is like HItman, Manhunt, Splinter Cell, etc Your gun is your last resort. I used the bow and arrow more times than a gun to keep the stealth going. I have played HItman Absolution and the original 3. Once I learned to play it the gun was the last thing to use. thewickedgamer
Yea, I found archery to be the highlight.

I did that for most of the game, but near the end you don't really have much of a choice, it gets hard.

Lets say during the end, I tricked my enemies using bottles and bricks to make them go one way and I go another to lead then into a neck snap or shiv stealth kill. Smoke bombs helped. This game reminds me of Daniel Craig's 007. Be reckless, ruthless, but at the same time use stealth, use melee, and don't be dependent on the gun. Use your wits.

What difficulty were you playing on? On Hard, the AI is much better and more difficult. From watching Normal gameplay, it seems like the game was made to be played on Hard rather than Normal because AI is a lot more responsive (in fair ways) on Hard difficulty. I can imagine Survivor difficulty will be a lot more frustrating though :P.

Cos it's cumbersome and unresponsive. It gets better later in the game but at the start it's pretty sloppy

exactly, once you upgrade it's a lot better.

I met someone on another forum who was talkign about how the whole game was subpar, with the gunplay being "clunky". It was interesting, given after some conversation they revealed they only played the first couple hours of the game.

lx_theo

Lmao, this seems to be the case.

Hard on my 1st playthtough. Listen Mode off, Melee Prompts Off. Subtitles On. Starting a New Game plus on Survivor. For me the key is tricking enemies. If you are spotted or have to use the gun. Attack from angles. Don't linger in one spot. Move and move and move until your enemies cant find you and "restart" your stealth.

This in combination with any scenario where you are forced to fight your way out makes those specific stretches of the game unsatisfying and just overall tedious. For the rest of the game it's mostly a non issue since you should be sneaking around all day anyway(It's more or less a stealth game, action/stealth if you will). But the moments where it's kill or be killed, man that gun sway is more of a hassle than adding anything of value to the gameplay.

Which backs up the reviews that said it was bad having you in scenarios fighting waves of enemies, it highlights the faults in the gunplay

Yeah some of the change of pace scenarios are just ugh, especially forced throwdown with infected or
or that sniper shit which was just super gamey at that point with how it wanted you to take out that armored truck
Well, there's a difference between a game that just sucks in all ways, including controls, and a game that makes a real effort to make the gunplay realistic to add to the survival part of the gameplay.

Its weird though, we play alot of shooters and we're experts with various virtual fire arms. The game had no choice but to limit you're own marksmanship and weapons training to the protagonist's inexperience in those areas. Personaly, I don't like it, If a game has shooting then it should rely on my talent, not the protagonists, They'l have to find another way of making the game seem more like survival experience.

I didn't have a problem with it. I also like the discussion that revolves around this matter, "Upgrade to make it suck less" "No, it just isn't good" "Well duh, Joel ain't no friggin' expert!" "He should be! Been survivin" for 20 years" "It adds tenshiun" Like trying to define an RPG.

I think there's some sort of auto-aim on that messes up my shots. Not sure if you can turn it off.
So far I just kill everything without shooting.
(Still in the first few hours of the game.)

20 year vet of the apocalypse who doesn't think twice about heading into a heavily armed encampment, and carries a pistol with spent ammunition at the start of the game? Yes, I think we should be able to assume he can handle himself. Also the fact you have to upgrade the shiv to protect yourself from clicker grabs...again, he's seen and dealt with them before. In the earlier trailer he deals with it, and when it happens in canned cinematic situations he deals with it just fine...

Bitch, bitch, bitch.  You can never satisfy people, if Joel was proficient with all the guns they would be moaning that there's no upgrades.  Gun upgrades are a reward.  It's called suspension of belief.  I enjoy games where I have to work for my payoff, not have it handed to me on a silver platter from the get-go.  I don't know how anyone can have fun when they're constantly nitpicking over the dumbest things.

The shooting felt weird at the start of the game, there is like a point of aim shift when you hit L1. I couldn't hit crap with that revolver, always resorted to beating people down hand to hand. After putting points into the steady upgrade it fixed it a bit. Shotgun and shorty pistol got rid of the problem. Once something got right up on you hitting with the pistols was difficult. I got used to it though. Didn't even notice it by the end of the game.

Uncharted gunplay was terrible, so I have no big expectation for TLoU is that area. But from what I've seen it's ok.

I liked it. Just the ammo pick up was stupid. I pick up from infected but someone shooting at me, their gun and ammo just magicall disappear. Stupid plot hole, but the shooting mechanic was fine.

No I'm not, thats Joel, and he shouldn't be passing off his weaknesses on to me, I'm a Video Gamer with plenty of virtual firearm experience. If Joel isn't badass. like me :) , then thats something he's gotta deal with, not me.

My problem isn't so much with TLOU as it is with that awful DS3 controller. Those analog sticks are the worst. I am pretty good with them now, but the distance from iso center to the edge is way too far. Aiming is a chore and a half with that thing. Thank goodness Sony fixed this stuff with the PS4.

20 year survivor he should be.

Seriously though, people have been bitching that the shooting sucks and I don't see it. It's better than Max Payne 3.

Ok it's fine but it's nowhere near as good as Max Payne 3's gunplay. MP3 has THE best thrid person shooting

I think this is where some are getting the idea that people are bitching about the gameplay. If it isn't praised to high heaven, they are obviously bitching.
