Why do people hate Microsoft so much?!

1)I've been trying to figure this one out for a while. Bill Gates masterminded a revolutionary OS. So revolutionary that 95% of people reading this will have bought a copy.

2) For this reason he is rich but to his credit he donates more to charity than any other self made business man, particularly to childerns charities. During the awesome PS2 era microsoft brought out the xbox which provided at least some competition for Sony which is always a good thing.

3) Whether you like the new PS or the 360 why hate a company that has stopped the console market from becoming stagnant and offers, more than any company, some of their wealth to those less fortunate? Are people just jealous?Do people just irrationally believe that Microsofts' success must be the product of some evil doing?If you have all the relevant information its pretty hard to distinguish the practices of a firm like MS from any other.

1)Microsoft monopolized the PC market and now are forcing developers to use DirectX 10 and support games for Vista only like Crysis with their Games for Windows bullcrap. Also the fact that Windows in itself is a garbage OS with poor security. Everyone seems to think Windows is prone to viruses and spywarebecausepeople hate Microsoft and while that is partly true, Windows is vulnerable because the kernel and the registry which are the biggest parts of the OS have such linear coding that they are easy to hack into using even the most basic programs in the form of the various viruses, spyware and malware. Once a program gets installed on your computer, the information gets sent right to the registry and when it gets hacked, you are screwed. Again, Windows is a joke and Vista is the biggest mistake since America elected George Bush for a second term as president.

I find it funny how people try to defend Windows, you are all aware that Bill Gates wrote Windowsusing DOS right? Instead of doing it from scratch like all the other OS developers did at the time. A lot of computer people were pissed off at the time because instead of doing things honestly, he took the easy route and cheated. At least that is what I understand of that whole fiasco.

2) Yeah what competition? The Xbox was rediculously expensive when it came out (at 400 dollars or so here), yet the technology was inferior to PC's of the time and game support was pretty much non existant. I would not say that 22 million is exactly successful compared to previous console generations sales figures for the N64 and PS1 which were better. And with only 11 million units sold since launch almost 2 years ago, the 360 is not exactly doing so hot especially considering it has more exclusives right now then the PS3 and is being beaten by a console that is equal to their first attempt at gaming in terms of power.

3) Why would anyone be jealous of Microsoft? Anyone with half a brain knows how much they are ruining everything they touch by putting a monopoly on things. Forcing Windows on people instead of having the option, restricting audio and video codecs on their mp3 players and forcing gamers to have to pay for peer to peer online play are just a few examples of how they have ruined the electronics industry with their horrible products.

i believe its mainly cause they're the new kid on the block, and although theyve done pretty well thus far. they still have quite a bit to prove to the gaming community.

believe it or not, gamers acted the exact same way towards sony when they entered the gaming market. but they got over it. in time. people will get over microsoft.

mind you,

this opinion is from a strictly gaming point of view

I hate aspects of Microsoft, not the whole company. They can't make good hardware and brag about stupid things such as "You will play CoD4, and Mass Effect only on the 360". Big deal, Sony could say "You can play CoD4 and Killzone 2 only on PS3". I just hate the way they brag about sales, but totally keep quiet about hardware and used to say there was no problem with 360 hardware. Good job on Bill though for helping charities such as kids, aids, etc.

Probably the same reason people hate Sony. :lol:

I don't hate either company. I hate some of the practices they enforce and how they run certain businesses. As a whole I think both companies have a lot of positive products and good services. I own several Sony and Microsoft products, so I'm not really biased against either, per se.

Because. It wasn't good enough to have a choke hold on the computer industry, they need to monopolize the electronic gaming industry.

MS is not a electronic entertainment company they are a software company.

Somehow thy've convinced hoards of lemmings that XBox brand is only about non-expensive gaming. Last time I checked I spent well over $700 for a full featured 360. For what? A RROD.

1. That was not a PC...it was never made for home use.

2. Not at that time....he was part of pixar then...he came back in 98'.

3. No....all of apples stockholders love him from bringing back apple from the verge of bancrupcy.

4. Its true IBM made computers...but apple was the one that brought these computers to houses....rather then just for scientific and military use....today, the only thing IBM makes is hardware...and basic software.

It's not what MS does, it's how they do it.

For example, during the early days of the web, a little company called netscape came out with a browser called netscape navigator. It was their major source of income, and it was one of the best places in the world to work at the time.

Then along comes microsoft. And at first they decide to sell their browser, too.

Then, when nobody buys because netscape beat them to the punch and had a better product, they started giving it away for free.

In the end, netscape had to sell their FURNITURE just to pay the frikken light bills - never mind their employees.

Needless to say, the company was gutted like a fish, and all the best minds that worked there split up and went their own ways.

Microsoft: The Destroyer of Innovation.

You wait. They'll still lose this gen, but they are unsptoppable at this point in time. Next next gen, they will most likely win. And then you will see what they do and how they do it, and you'll see gaming suffer as a result.

Just think, your console will fail AND you won't have a choice, AND it will boot slow and come with IE built in. Lovely. Can't wait for the blue screens.

How can anybody not hate them?

A full of flaws OS, but i'm forced to use it if I want to play any games. I'd love to use Linux, as I know it's better, but I wouldn't be able to play most games.

If you are not careful with the upgrades they install the WGA that sends info everytime you connect you PC to internet.

They have a terrible browser (like a lot of the default applications), they can't even make it decent, being one of the biggest companies in the world, you can get Firefox for free, and it's open source and a million times better (so much that Microsoft was forced to copy the tabs system for IE7, a feature that was present in Firefox since 1.0), but if you want to browse their page and use the upgrades they tell you that "this page can only be browsed with IE" (I don't know if this is still that way, it was so the last time I tried). And let's not talk about the security flaws of each one.

Not only Microsoft is a monopolistic company, but it's also one that makes bad products. Yet, we all (or almost all) use them, simply because most programs are coded for it.

I don't hate Microsoft, I am actually fond of the company, but some of their past practices have been less than honorable. I am proud that an American company is dominating in some capacity, because leadership always changes. With the right leadership, Microsoft could overcome the mistakes of the past(deliberate and otherwise) and restore their honor.

Plus I really like my X360 :D...

people hate MS because it is the "cool" thing to do, same with hating on Walmart, Emo, Bush, etc. I can see how someone would dislike these things but most people aren't informed enough to make there own opinion.

Microsoft has never been an honorable company. One of the first things Bill Gates ever did was to *port* BASIC to Altair on stolen Harvard computer time and the first iteration of MS-DOS was just a re-branded QDOS. Those first two early actions set the tone for *everything* MS has done as a business since.
