Meh. Sounds like a bunch of whiny kids to me. But, it's a guy thing though. If it's not silly games, it's sports teams, cars, brand names...... Fanboyism. I can't remember the last time I was one.
I haven't seen "fangirlism" yet though except the gossip with Hollywood stars.
Because people warm up to the things they are familiar with and tend to hate on the opposition because that conflicts with they love/like or they think is overrated... or they know its not their cup of tea... it goes on. Who cares is just games.
It's a human thing. We treat everything from religion to politics to entertainment as if it were our favorite bloody soccer team.
So do violent games and films create psychotic teenagers? Nope, but I bet that the despair and absolute insanity of the average human being manages fine by itself.
Sociology 101: Stereotyping/generalizing is a necessary evil for all people. People don't have the time to think about or experience every single game ever made, so they bash it so that they won't be tempted to buy it and therefore spend the time to really consider it. The same reason why you don't go down the street greeting and getting to know every single person you see, and you probably form opinions, negative or positive, about them without really knowing them.
Also extreme bias based upon past experience and influences from proximate social forces, ie friends, family etc.
1. Cuz its cool to hate YO 2. Do i need to play evry game available to know if i'll like it or not? 3. Genres such as wut Wii Fit has i know i'll hate it without trying it.
