I'll just describe a few reasons why I prefer XBL.

Even before I sign on, I can change my online status to invisible. Sometimes I just like to play certain games without friends inviting me to theirs and they can't invite you if they think you're offline.

You can sign on with up to 4 different accounts on the same console. All 4 of us can play a single game and each of us can earn Achievements individually playing on the same console.

I can change my gamertag. For a fee I can change my gamertag without losing all my Achievements, information, and people in my friends list. I only changed mine a couple times in since the 360 launch and I don't plan on changing it again anytime soon, but having the option to do so is nice. Sometimes you just grow out of your online ID or gamertag.

Well, if you aim to just game online, and not talk to people, then they are equal, but XBL is just a better service because each game is connected to every other game, and everything is seamless across everything. I dont have to stop doing anything to do anything else :P Also, not every game on PSN has dedicated servers, thats a myth. Most of the first party games do though. And, from my blog........

What makes LIVE better than PSN??

Ive seen this asked over and over on this site, so since i own both, i decided to list a few. But to fully understand, you have to experience it for yourself. So take this list, find a friend with a 360, and see for yourself.

1- cross game chat -this is more than it sounds. not only can you chat accross different games, but you can seamlessly create a party while in game, and switch from friends only chat, to chatting with people online, all without leaving the game

2- Custom soundtracks-
this is the most misunderstood by fanboys. This feature is built into every game, and is built on the LIVE software that MS created. Meaning when i play a custom soundtrack on 360 (whether its from the hard drive, pc, or MP3 player) the game music, and ONLY the game music, stops playing. This doesnt happen with PS3. On 360, it only plays the sound effects and ambient sounds in the game, allowing me to hear my song. PS3 just plays the music (only dev supported) over my game sound.

3-In game access to everything
- this is another misunderstood feature. With 360, if im playing a game, and i want to.....say play netflix. i dont have to go to the dashboard first, all i do is press the guide button, and click netflix. It stops my game and immediately plays. Or if im playing........say mass effect, and i wanna play Jade Empire that i downloaded. Same thing, just press the guide, and scroll to downloaded games. Its is nowhere NEAR as easy on PS3

4- Trueskill Ranking system- I cant count how many times i was playing warhawk when i first got it, and got beat like a runaway slave until i got the hang of it. Imagine going to the gym to play basketball, and everyday you had to play against Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Shaq!! Trueskill tracks your accomplishments ingame, and matches you with people on your level, making sure every experience is fair, and fun.

5 Intergration- Kinda speaks for itself. Basically my friends list follows me through every game. im even notified if a friend is playing the same game as me, and allows me to join the right then, no lobbies, menus, or anything. I can also check my achievements, friends achievements, and the profiles of the last 40 people ive played online at anytime, whether im watching a movie, netflix, playing a game, or whatever.

6-Cross game invites- no matter what im doing, i can invite a player to my game with the press of a button. No need to type a message like on PS3. I can also record voice messages to send to anyone ingame.

7-Server based system-
the myth going on is that LIVE doesnt have dedicated servers. While this is mostly true, what people fail to realize is that EVERYTHING Live related IS kept on servers, servers that MS maintains. My friends lists, achievements (even my achievement progress), games played, and even my LOCATION or MODE in the game is tracked and displayed to my friends. Meaning i can check my friends profile (ingame if i choose) and see what area hes cruising in GTA iv, or the score in madden or NFL nk9, or the mode, map, and score in Halo 3.

There are many more, but like i said, go experience it for yourself.

Liquid_DC

good points, but most of that can be done on psn, ala going from game to movie, with out going to xmb, viewing friendslist, viewing trophise, all in game. hopefully cross game chat comes soon, its really the only feature on live that i want on psn. like i said verygood points but nothing there is needed in order to play online games, especially if its free

Great! Was looking for a point of view from someone who actually uses PSN. :)

its called an opinion, and here on system wars some people treat those like factsshadow_hosi
Oh powerful with the truth are you. I don't know about better, since I wasn't given the authority to JUDGE ANYTHING. But I prefer Live because of the community feel it has. Game nights with other members are set up and posted as well as gaming with celebrities. That's the main thing for me. PSN does it's job, but feels kind of dead.

OMG! You gotta pay to change your TAG? That sucks!!!! What possible reason could they have for charging even a PENNY to do that? Is it the same with PSN?

XBL has all the bells and whistles. PSN is more stable and plays games better.

So you're choice is extra content or more playability. What really gets me is lems will be the first ones to tell you it's all about the games, then turn around and say PSN is garbage. Even though, when it comes down to it, PSN plays the games better.

You have to pay because everything you do/buy is tied to your gamertag, and those things have to be changed in the system, and make sure all the stuff you bought remains yours and problem free. I dont think you can change your PSN ID AT ALL without creating a new account, and losing all your trophies can you??

You already know I don't have a 360. I've only told like 10 times now. I have a Wii, PS3 and PC. I don't need a 360 to know about the terrible lag online, the 20 minute waits for matches to start, the disconnects, etc. PSN is just simply more stable. Especially the few games that run servers(warhawk, resistance 2), rather then P2P.

The lack of cross game chat and invites is certainly bothersome though. I don't care about facebook/mayspace. And I'm in Canada so netflix doesn't work. So most of those option on XBL are usless to me and not worth $50 if I did have a 360.

EDIT: Sorry, XBL is actualy $60 in Canada. I just get used to American speak since I'm on here so often. And YES I do play the 360 quite often. I have a few friends that have em. I just can't justify owning a PS3 and 360 given that 90% of all the games this gen are multiplats.

Seriously... What is that statement based on? Number of subscribers, available games, layout? Is it about performance? I have a PS3, but I have never actually played an online game.(i.e. COD4 TDM) Is there significant lag on PSN? Is there any data backing up any claims? One major complaint I hear is that you can't have a party on PSN with people playing different games.... That kinda sucks, but truthfully, I'm not gonna be in a party if we are not even playing the same game. What are we suppose to do, just talk? Lame. My biggest gripe with XBL is all the disconnects I experience. MVC2, and WAW for example. I spend more time creating lobbies on MVC2 than I do playing. Just try and get a Zombie match started with a friend in WAW. You will repeatedly get disconnected, and kicked out of games before it finally works. Is that an issue with XBL or the game? Seriously, I don't see the big XBL advantage. It should be free, just like PSN.

No you chan't change your PSn screen name. They do let you change the email addy linked too the account. But for a while that was causing problem with trophies and what not. I THINK they fixed that though...

IMO 360 is for social/casual gamers... For instance, that new 360 feature where you can invite friends to watch a movie together. I can't think of anything more childish. What ever happen to going to the REAL movies with ACTUAL friends? LMAO...

PS3 is for hardcore gamers. That's mainly the reason I have never been on PSN. 95% of my games are single player, or PS2 classics. I would get MW2 for PS3, but more people have 360's so that's gonna mean more matches, and friends. It sucks, because I would really like to take advantage of the free online. With that said. I've come to the conclusion that the 360 has won allot of it's accolades by default. They had an 8+ million sale head start on Sony. Since the Slim is selling out everywhere that gap will tighten by next year, making it a more viable option for online play. At the end of they day. I think my question is answered. XBL wins for having more subscribers. Once PS3 catches up, M$ will have no choice but to offer free online, because other than the privialage of having more players online. The other features aren't worth a bent penny...

And another thing I like with XBL, is in every video game you have the ability to invite anyone you just played with and not just the people in your friends list but anyone, and invite them to games. That's probably how some of these clans get created or new friends added because of the players skills.

It certainly is cool you derive all of that from a Sony fanboy that wouldn't know what gaming is like from both platformsand ignore the other multiplat users that actually know what gaming is like on both....

The lack of cross game chat and invites is certainly bothersome though. I don't care about facebook/mayspace. And I'm in Canada so netflix doesn't work. So most of those option on XBL are usless to me and not worth $50 if I did have a 360.

So you don't have any experience with XBL, yet somehow know everything about it.....Then you call everyone else fanboys. Oh the irony...

Read the edit I posted while you wer writing this. I have more then enough reason to not have a 360. And I have plenty of experience with XBL.

The other features aren't worth a bent penny...

your opinion is more like a fanboy statement.

Thats an uneducated guess. And we all learned in math class, that those are never right.

Yes becuase the universe would collapse upon itself were I to go to a friends house and play the 360:roll:

There's just no need to own both consoles this gen. If I had a 360 rather then PS3 I'd be missing out on uncharted, killzone and resistance. I have a PS3 so I miss out on gears 2, Halo and Forza. Everything else is multiplat. 3 or 4 games is not worth an extra system purchase. Maybe when it's down to $100 or something. But even then, I'm not gonna pay for XBL.

I'm more of a boob man myself. haha.

People do throw the word around a lot. I've been called a fanboy or it's been implied by 3 different people already in this thread. I own everything but the 360 and a couple of my favs are on the Wii. But I'm a Sony fanboy? interesting to see the SW at work there.

Xbox live is better than psn thats just fact.If u disagree with me your kidding yourself or have never played on live.People that say that psn is better than live are just sony super fans and refuse to admit somethings better than the ps3.Trust me i have both systems and sony has definatly got some work to do when it comes to there online service. The biggest problem with psn is communication,it just doesnt work as well as live and psn as a whole is not user friendly and gets annoying .Some things have gotten better on psn and at some point im sure it can be just as good or maybe better than live but they have a long ways to go.

I take exception to that. There are far more games than you give credit or acknowledgment to. Then there are all the timed exclusives. Of course, your patience may be as wide as the sea but not everyone has that.

I just picked a few from each system. I know there's more games on the 360 and more geame on the PS3. They were just examples. Plus there's the fact that I may not be interested in any if not all of those games. Different strokes for different folks.

My original reason for going PS3 over 360 was simple. Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. I follow my games. FF is now multiplat(further proving my truth, that both are not needed so far this gen).

I've seen your arguements in mroe then one thread. They're about as biased towards MS as a person can get....

I gave the 360 it's due credit. It's a great social networking device. And it has a few options PSN doesn't have. But PSN plays the games better. I don't know how much less biased I can get here.

Outside of the bulletpointed list of features, there is an indelible something that you won't find on a list: the overall integration of each feature. It makes for a more streamlined experience. If you look at the way even the dashboard is laid out, the community features are viewable at the surface. Community events like the community playdate, game with fame, game with developers, community calendare nights....new demos, add-ons, movies/tv shows, Inside Xbox spots, IGN strategize, etc.... it's all readily viewable once you log in.

Speaking of Inside Xbox, there are active and accessible community managers that keep the XBL userbase active. From the GamerChix to the Ambassador program. They always keep the Live wheels turning.

Then there are things like Parties and having the launch into games together, cross game invites and chat.... no need to rely on individual devs to implement. It's part of the Xbox 360 SDK. No need to launch into separate apps for merely the possibility. It's standard across ALL games. Custom soundtracks? In ALL games. Achievements? In ALL games.

Messaging, account management, all can be done on the console as well as Xbox.com.

In the net of things, Xbox Live is just put together better. Features are not just added, then shoe-horned in in some rudimentary manner as they are in PSN. XBL features are thought through and integrated through the whole service in logical and organic ways. You need only look at Achievements/Trophies and Xbox.com/Playstation.com to see examples of this.

brainwashed to think so, they have to make us think 50 dollars is paying for something

which I think the are 50 a year goes into paying for the dlc

but whats the point of charging for a p2p service, sigh well I can't say much I'm one of the fools paying for it

really there no difference between the PSN and xbox live really well not 50 dollars wroth of diffrence.

[QUOTE="navyguy21"]

_TheJoker_

Good job, but freshmonkey doesn't deserve that kind of answer.

Why not? He asked a legitimate question. You either A) didn't enough to actually give a reasonable answer or B) just like to annoy people for your own amusement

Cool, what's your XBL gamertag?

You already know I don't have a 360. I've only told like 10 times now. I have a Wii, PS3 and PC. How do you know games play better on PsN. That's a lie. You haven't even played Xbox Live, so how can you make an informed decision.

Judging from what you just wrote, all you did was search a gameplay video of Gears Of War 2 when it first came out, because what you said, is the only game that it describes.

And to top it off, Gears 2 has been almost completely polished up with its updates. So everything you just said, it's nothing but fanboyism talking.
