better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

No game franchise is safe sadly, hell who expected GTA4 to have multiplayer?[QUOTE="mitu123"][QUOTE="GamerwillzPS"]
I'll be on a rampage if Just Cause 3 has multiplayer...
For the love of God, don't.

GTAIV multiplayer was awesome, and RDR even better. I have high hopes for it in GTAV
Wasn't fan of the RDR mp. I've only played it to get that high bounty achievement, which was a pain to get since none of my friends wanted to play it. Had to fend off while raising the bounty by myself. I guess I can praise developers for trying something different with mp, but wasn't my cup of tea.[QUOTE="Litchie"]Because they think it will make them money. I hate it when they do that for games like Dead Space, BioShock and stuff like that but we'll have to live with it. I'd much rather not have multi-player at all than a crappy multi-player. Spending time on making crappy multi-player = less time spent on making the actual game better.danish-deathSince when did Bioshock or Dead Space suffer because of "tacked on" MP? Can you seriously argue that Dead Space 2 would've been any better or longer without the MP component? The game was great even though it wasn't quite as scary as the first one, but that has nothing to do with the multiplayer. And While Bioshock 2 might not have lived up to the first game, the third installment seems to redeem that. .....so your answer too bioshock 2 not living up is that infinite remedies this? bioshock 2 from a story standpoint was a rambling mess I just beat it recently and comparing 1 to 2 is literally an insult to 1. 2 cements at every turn that it was a cash in game maybe if 2k had released more content for 1 they would have seen more puchases and less tradeins but no they very nearly destroy the value of the first games story by releasing a direct sequel that concentrated on multiplayer that its single player was nigh worthless.
hate to say it but i refuse to buy a game unless it has good multiplayer OR the story takes longer than 8-10 hours to beat because in my opinion a game isn't worth $60 unless it meets at least one of those requirements.
That assumes that it comes without cost, but it does have a cost. It diverts development time from the SP, or just adds to the game's budget in general. So, no, this simple argument doesn't really work. as adding it can make something that would have worked otherwise not, or make something that would have been profitable potentially non-profitable or at least less profitable.better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

[QUOTE="KiZZo1"]pretty much. also it allows them to do online passes, support for cheaply made DLC content It's not like they can't (and aren't) doing that for single player games already.Because of random idiots who say "no MP = rent". Next thing we'll have multiplayer in games like Silent Hill.

Another developer spoke on the topic today: Avalanche in an interview with gamespy
Did Avalanche think multiplayer didn't fit in Just Cause 2? In a recent interview, you said that many developers and publishers force multiplayer into games for all the wrong reasons.Gamespy
CS: That is correct, and that is why you see so many games with forced multiplayer modes that are thrown together just as a desperate move to combat second-hand sales. Bad multiplayer modes have become the new bad movie-based games, and are big black holes where developers waste time and publishers waste money. Christofer Sundberg
Must multiplayer game modes I dont even touch. I might play them for a couple hours but I have my online games for online gaming. (Halo, Call of Duty)
Mass Effect 3: Didnt play online much. (Beat Campaign)
Uncharted 2 and 3: Didnt play online much (Beat Camapigns)
Bioshock 2: Played more online than actuall campign. (Didnt care for the game)
Grand Theft Auto 4: Played more online than actuall game. (Great game but never finished the story)
Red Dead Redemption: I never played online. (Beat Campaign)
Call of Duty: Played online for days! (Beat all the campaigns also)
Halo: Played onlne for days! (Beat all of the campaigns)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Played MGO for a few hours (Beat the campaign)
Dont like them, dont play them.
Publishers dont have any idea how to make games, they just in it for the money, and look at how successful COD is, they want forced MP in their games, so it will be more popular. But its just a waste of resources when you force MP on a mainly SP game. After a month the community will be dead since there a far superior MP games out there, since they are designed for MP. Ye its stupid
