[QUOTE="FlamesOfGrey"][QUOTE="siLVURcross"] That's because it doesn't involve underage looking girls.tagyhag

Neither do all the ecchi fanservice games in Japan.

Not all, but there's definitely a lot. Loli is (Rightfully) considered taboo here.

As it is in most countries, even in Japan.

I dont think Merica is doing it wrong tho. As far as laws go. But some people do be getting overly offended and overreact to nothing. "OMG the girl in the Car commercial is too sexy, some one shut down that car company!"

In the West the God Of War series has had a sex mini game since the first one (You don't see anything granted but you know what's going down.). Dragon Age, Heavy Rain & Mass Effect has soft sex scenes where you do see a quick scene. I don't see anyone crying about these games being perverted.

People should realize that this is made for primarily a group of Japanese society that's generally looked down as much as perverted people in western countries are. Its not a good thing in Japan. All Japan does is let them live their life how they want to and deal with teh consequences.

No, it's sad that people think stuff like this is common place in Japan. I mean everyone knows the Japanese all play visual novels and watch "My Kawaii Highschool Adventures!", it isn't looked down upon at all over there.

I would just like to say of a random survey done of 130,000 Japanese people of ages from teens to 80s, 42% said they considered themselves Otaku. Source is a NSFW site though so I'd like to avoid linking it. Google it. Due to the Fujoishi/Otome explosion, the female numbers are also increasing.

Being an otaku can be anything from loving trains to loving anime. Besides, there are people who will say that they are nerds/geeks/otaku without actually being one.

that's not what i said. different cultures are into different kinds of porn. that's the simplest way to put it. still not exactly what i meant by it, but it's close enough. doesn't mean the japanese talk openly about what loli videogame they played the day before as you'd expect an englishman talk about the weather (englishmen always talk about the weather).

lol, at least the message is clear. also i assume japan doesn't look down on their geeks any more than we do. "avoid eye contact with the weirdo" and move on with your life. though i'd like to think that this is changing. it's impossible to label anyone as a nerd nowadays, because nowadays everyone is into nerd culture in one way or another. so due to how mainstream it's becoming, profiling people because of it is becoming less and less viable with each passing day. at least, that's what i'd like to think. being in engineering college (where the official passtimes are "pokemon" and "dota") probably has something to do with it.

Like Yangire said, Otaku itself is a quite general term. It really just means someone who is all into a hobby. Even for those Otaku that are anime and stuff related (the stereotypical ones), you still probably have a smaller amount still that are all in on the perverted stuff, and an even smaller amount that is into loli type stuff some people have mentioned here. Not to say its a small part of Japan at all in the end, only that Otaku tendencies that this thread refers to are still considered negative things in Japan by a good majority.

shush! so what if every person either has a nintendo system with pokemon loaded in it, or a GBA emulator on their phone/laptop with pokemon? so what if i get more streetpasses in college than i get anywhere else? WE'RE PEOPLE TOO! D: no but seriously, the concept of geek/nerd as a pejorative term is practically dead. save from some real weirdos with no social life, being into games, or superheroes, or computers or whatever really doesn't make you any different in today's society. i guess i should thank at least partially Mr. zuckeberg and his book of faces for it.

FYI, most of the time the male protagonist is prepubescent kid too. Also, differences in culture play a role here.

What wrong with perverted games? i don't understand

hexashadow13

Americans are generally completely prudish or the complete opposite. We're a weird nation. xD

I've kinda noticed that it tends to be the opposite here in the US and the West.  We tend to be more accepting of Blood, extremem graphic violence, and cursing in our games, while Nudity and sex is something that is more taboo.

Over in Japan, I think its the opposite where Nudity and sexual stuff is more accepted in games, while Blood and graphic violence tends to be censored or more controlled.

Several games that had violent scenes uncut in the US were generally censored in Japan.  On the other hand, sexual content tends to be uncensored in Japan, but will generally get changed or censored when it comes to the US.

It's not that either country is weird, its just that both cultures favor different things.

And that's why games such as PhotoKano for PSV won't get localized. Is it because it's illegal?

Japanese gamers are all perverted mostly. It's a different culture, some kinky stuff there. I'm in the Navy, I've been there.
