Never understood why its a often used point of discussion , from my perspective profits are totally irelevant , i just care about my entertainment when it comes to games , not about business related stuff. So please explain why you care about profits of a game/console company unless you are a stakeholder ?

I don't really care. Although it's good to know that the company you bought your product from is doing well.

It absolutely concerns everyone and everything.

Someone or something ceases to make money and that something ceases to exist.

So you'd prefer to remain totally ignorant of the business side of things?

I may not be a major player in the stock markets or anything but I like to know where companies stand, how their products are selling etc.

I personally find it interesting.

People want to defend their choices. By pointing to low sales, or poor profitability of a company, some feel that they can indirectly say "you should have bought what I bought" or "I feel better about my purchase".

You want entertainment, but don't care about profits? You really don't know what fuels that entertainment? I care about this industry as a whole, and I hope it continues to grow. This includes the profits and developers getting paid.

Well if you have no interest beyond the immediacy of your surroundings then why be interested in anything? Why watch the news, read books, learn new things, if ultimately like you say, you cannot change anything. Just be ignorant of everything.

I'm invested in the things that happen beyond just what I play because it impacts me. If a company is doing well or not so well, I might decide to do my part to support it by buying its products new, or not support them if I don't like their business practice. I can then witness if my decisions mean anything and if not at least I have the self satisfaction of contributing. Look at Ubisoft recently dropping its DRM. Enough people said no and something changed.

Games mean a little more to me than just throwaway entertainment so I am invested in the people, business and industry as a whole behind the games I play.

Because I want to be able to play the next Zelda on Nintendo's 10th home console 20 years from now.

The fact that we probably won't see Banjo 3 in our lifetimes is depressing.

--

I can imagine Sony fans being saddened by the closure of Sony Liverpool and the inevitable downfall of the Playstation handheld. I feel lucky that I'm not attached to Sony's 1st party offerings, and that my favorite companies (Nintendo, Valve, Blizz) are alive and well.

i do care about profits of the company i work for because that has direct influence on my paycheck , but why should i care about profits of a company that im just a consumer of ? if they stop making good games because of their losses , i still dont care bout their profits/losses but the fact they stop making good games and will look for an alternative solution

Profits = more games.

No profit = no money = eventally going bankrupt which will lead to the company going out of business/ closing it's doors.

Sony are heavily invested in this generation, you can't expect them to drop everything immediately after that division starts losing money.

Clearly, as (Sony's) history can show, there is massive potential for profit in the video games industry. Sony may not be doing well as a whole right now, but that's the reason they're making cut backs and trying to lessen their overheads. They're going to take it on the chin for the time being until they get back on track on back into the black.

Unless, they continue to suffer heavy losses and in fact doshut down their Playstation sector, you won't be able to tell me profits aren't important to you or I.

I don't care. Frankly, I couldn't care less if all three console companies went under. My main system is PC and even then, gaming isn't important enough in my life for me to care. If gaming died, I would just invest more time into my other hobbies.

It obviously can't last forever. This conversation seems all too obvious. Am I missing something here? If Sony continue with losses, they will cease to exist. If all you care for is Sony's entertainment, then you care if they are losing money. Therefore you care about profits of a company.

Leave the business talk to the companies and investors and let the gamers play the games.

Profit does not always equate to more games... it equates to richer people at HQ.

If you think buying tonnes of one game will produce another game, its more likely that they will produce the same game depending on how MONEY HUNGRY they are... which goes down to what kind of developer they are.

Its not about the money, its about the games.... (also the pricing and steam sale lol)

Translation: Sony lost billions of dollars to keep it alive and healthy. It's called investing. That's not gonna happen with PS4, because Sony is not in a good financial state anymore.

I would say that gamers who are familiar with the business side of gaming tend to be the most informed and educated than those who simply play games. They know why things are what they are in the gaming business.

 attacking my IQ. That's just gold. It's the fact that you don't know sh!t about the next PS4 let alone the library it'll get. It's the fact that the upcoming PS3 games don't reflect the slightest state of Sony at the moment. That alone destroy your argument that profit equals to more games. And it's the fact that one who start first with personal attack automatically lose the argument. Keep dodging the question child, you're too young to be a business expert .

I didn't dodge the question, I directly answered it. I said PS3 is awesome, but because of that, PS4 won't be.

Of course, you may disagree with that reasoning and conclusion.

Neither of us is either right or wrong yet, we're simply predicting.

The thing is, once we know the answer, we will be past the point of no return, Sony has to act now. If they dismiss the warnings like you are doing now, they're in for a surprise me thinks.

I don't really. I couldn't care less how much money MS, Sony, Nintendo made/lost their 1st quarter or whatever.

People only brag about sales when they have nothing else to brag about. This is why Lemmings do it all the time.

I prefer not saying anything about things that we have no idea about.

It's not just simply about the company profit. Everything can decide a console fate: price, launch time, game varieties, targeting audience, etc. Prime example, the Wii, Ps2.

However, my original argument was about how a company profit does not necessarily equal the amount of upcoming games, and my main example was the PS3. I didn't talk about the unknowing future that anything can happen. Sony is in deep sh!t right now, no one denies it. But their state doesn't reflect in the upcoming games for the PS3. Hence the argument that more profit = more games doesn't work here. Your acceptance that PS3 is a great console proves my point.

Even if we know that the current state is not good, what can WE, A SMALL, INSIGIFICANT GAMER do about it? Sit around and talk? Go out and buy a couple more games? Ptfff.

If I was totally ignorant of Vita's sales problems and went out and bought one then I'd be out $250-$300 + money for an expensive memory card, with the lack of support would make it a wasted purchase.

Being informed means money saved instead of money thrown down the toilet. Unless you're a kid who has parents buy you everything, that's kind of important.

Because its sw, and apparently all fanboys are shareholders. Personally I care about profit in the sense I don't want a company to go bankrupt. Competition is good, and gives the consumer more options.

Never understood why its a often used point of discussion , from my perspective profits are totally irelevant , i just care about my entertainment when it comes to games , not about business related stuff. So please explain why you care about profits of a game/console company unless you are a stakeholder ?

As you get older, you get more wise. Money runs the industry from behind the screen. If you can figure out how a business will make more money in the future, you know exactly how developers are going to destroy the game industry in order to achieve those goals.
