Ok besides the fact that it put your preferred gaming company in a different place as far as the console war goes why do you hate it? I for one find it fun and not as taxing as hardcore games they're kinda whimsical really. Dont get me wrong i still like playing hardcore games but i just dont hate the casual games. Also i like how they dont take up as much of my time as hardcore games do (such as MGS4 lord know i loved it but about twenty hours of my life were spent)

Because the games are usually poorly made and derivative. Developers put minimal effort and founding into a small project, and then sell it to mom's who don't know any better for outrageous prices. I shouldn't be paying $30+ for tech demos.

In a way, casual gaming is really healthy for the industry, but on the other hand, the craptastic casual games that are shoveled out each year really taint the gaming's image, and it's recognition in the world of art.

IMO there is no such thing as "casual" gaming and "hardcore" gaming. Games are either fun, or they aren't. People normally try to classify "hardcore" games as games that are games that take forever to figure out, IMO they are mostly games that aren't fun.

Nobody cares about casual gaming as long as it does not affect hardcore gaming in a negative way. Until Crytek releases "Crysis beach party" on the Wii, I have no problems with casual gaming. I myself enjoy casual gaming as well.

EDIT: Fixed gramma error.

Casual games like Wii Sports, Wario Ware, and Cookin' Mama lack a certain depth, challenge, and quality that core gamers prefer. Casual gaming sells well, and it's become more common, allegedly replacing quality titles. That's the beef.

I do not mind the so-called "casual" gaming as it brings in demographics that are mostly disinterested in video games. A diversity of gaming demographics is good as I am sick and tired of the stereotype that gaming is a young male "thing" which prevents it from gaining respectibility and mainstream acceptance.

There are no such things as "casual" or "hardcore" games. Any type of gamer can play any type of game. Some may be inclined to play certain kinds and not others but there is nothing stopping a "casual" from playing the original Ninja Gaiden on the NES or a "hardcore" from playing Wiisports and them both enjoying their experiences.

I don't think it is "casuals" that many gamers hate it is the focus of industry being shifted into making more games to appeal to the mainstream audience than the "core" audience of gamers who have been gaming for a lot longer and have dedicated themselves to the hobby.

Informed gamers tend to look down on casual gamers because they only play what's popular or a sports series and they dont focus on gameplay over graphics.

I think a more prominent example would be a game like Okami. A unique game that is hailed as spectacular yet since it sold poorly, Capcom shut down the studio that made it.

Simple. It makes them feel "hardcore". Not once last gen did I ever see people argue and differentiate between "casual" and "hardcore" gaming so much. Casual gaming used to be solitaire, and flash games that business men play at work. Stuff like, Jewel Quest ect. But now, apparently Mario and Zelda are icons of casual games. Stupid fanboys.

Last gen you didn't have 85% of Software on one console be Showelvare and low-budget cash-ins such as Dogz, Catz, Hannah Montana, etc. (The PS2 did have a lot of crap but nowhere near the Wii)

My parents were killed by a mob of casual gamers who weren't wearing their Wiimote wrist straps.

-

People dislike casual gamers for the same reason anyone passionate about anything dislikes a casual consumer - they're a cheap date. If the world were full of food critics, crappy restaurants wouldn't exist - and in ultra competitive areas full of foodies (parts of New York and Vegas) we see that happen.

The casual audience provides an outlet that will consume what's advertised and does not seek / becomes frustrated with niche titles. It's hard to blame niche / core gamers for their frustration - small studios producing games like Psychonauts, Okami, and Disgaea struggle to survive or go out of business, while games like Kane & Lynch (genuinely mediocre) enjoy higher sales. It's not really fair that talent & creative go so unrewarded at times, and the uneducated consumer is at least partially to blame.

I used to be a more casual gamer and I bought NFS games, but now when I read revoews you realise that they are all the same, always will be, yet people will always buy them.

Would people consider games like COD4, R&C and MGS as casual though? The way i see it casual and hardcore gamers play those games.

Look at Lucasarts they were creating some of the best point n click adventures... then stop doing them..... So I releaved when Zack and Wiki was released...

Most people who own consoles will buy shooters/sport games over obscure titles lik Okami, Zack and Wiki, e.t.c

I don't hate Casual gaming at all... but as long as games like Zack and Wiki and Okami are still produced I don't care.

I was gonna say "look at the PS2 section of your local GS/EB", but you already said it for me. It's funny how someone can argue against what I said. Then in the next sentence immediately counter themselves with their own example (And thus making your first argument completely useless) I guess it's quicker then having multiple replays when we both knew the outcome all along. I say "look at the PS2 section of your local GS/EB" You say "But the Wii has much more shovel ware then the PS2 had. Like 85% in total!" I say "Thats clearly a made up fact. Again, just look at the large wall at your local GS/EB store. Difference with the Wii (And this gen in general) Is that people would rather talk about the systems faults instead of playing it. (See SW forums) Last gen people played their consoles because they wanted to have fun. This gen people play their console because they thinks it's better then the other two. I'll only talk about the PS2's shovel ware and I'll make that system look like a piece of garbage game wise. Quit being a fanboy!" You say "I'm not. It's the truth. Look at the all the reviews for proof." I say "but the Wii's the most popular console by far. Of course it's going to get most of the little sh@#y games. Just like the PS2 did." You say "Exactly! But it has way more then the PS2 had." I say "I give up. Go! Pretend you're hardcore (Even though it's a made up term for losers who want to feel special. Remember School? Retards = Special!?!? Thats you) Now I'm going to go f'ing shoot myself for letting this conversation go on as long as it did!"

Because they shouldn't be priced the same as normal games. You spend 10 hours on even a standard shooter's first playthrough, and about 5 at most on a casual game like Hexic HD (unless you're addicted, poor fellow if you are that game is like crack).

They ruin what we call a hobby by over-rationalizing games for (forgive me yahtzee) the less heavy-headed, brain un-encumbered, ludite core populus that wade into gaming like it were their b£%*^ for the evening and a mere pass time. Hardcore must stay fundamental for now if only to make sure expensive-to-make games like gearskeep on being made!

I just dont find most casual games fun. I guess by "casual" I mean the extreme casual games like Wii Play, mini games, Singstar, etc, etc. I like an immersive, deep experince in video games. I dont think casual games will ever offer that to me.

But the only reason I would ever go to the extreme of saying I hate casual gaming is if MS and Sony drop their original fanbase for casuals... which I think could happen.

I dont mind 'casual' games being released, everyone has his/her tastes in gaming.... Personally I dont like such games and simply dont buy them.. its not like I am forced to buy games I dont like...

There are casual games because people like them and there are hardcore games because people like them... its always good having a choice..

Because all sorta of skill and challenge are being taken out of games. It's being dumbed down, it's being turned into "No child left behind" ....screw you stupid, average, run of the mill idiots. I want a quality, challenging game. Hardcore gaming is what needs to stay around, not this "Hey, i go to the mall too? Oh you like Guitar Hero do you?! " Everything suddenly turned into some market fest. All everyone cares about is making bank. They make casual, easy games to appeal to all the dumbasses with a spare $60 in their pockets. Everyone knows this.

I don't really hate the games themselves, (though most are pretty terrible) I hate what they're doing to video games. Developers are making more and more games for casual gamers, because they're easy to make, cheap, and people still buy them. So there's less and less time for games that don't suck, and now we're now getting new gamers that only buy those games and actually like them. Look at Halo 3. Both 2 and CE were great, but as soon as Bungie listened to their fans. *BAM* The game gets ruined. I just hope that doesn't happen to other game franchises. (e.g. Gears of War 2, Elder Scrolls 5, Final Fantasy XIII, etc.)

Sorry to ruin your aynchent filosifees, but yes there are.

You can't put Cooking Mama in the same league as GeOW or Halo.

It's sort of like saying there is no good and evil, they're all just choices, and therefore the same.
