Why do so many people here in System Wars hate PC gaming? I am sure there is a more compelling argument than it costs too much. Just because you can not afford a gaming PC does not mean the PC has no good games. So what is it with you people that so passionately hate PC gaming?

It killed my father and raped my mother!

And I do hope that's not one of the better reasons in this thread :P

The setup doesn't suit everyone, but then you could connect your PC to a HDTV if that was a problem.

I'm going to buy another pc in about two months...
Yes i'm going to give it another chance.
I think some people hate PC gaming because of PC issues.
I wasn't lucky with the PC i'm typing on now.
I'll try summing up the issues in small print here. The rather expensive (back then) 9800pro melted in a few months, somehow (all fans were working, my cooling should have been fine). The modem stopped functioning when i used a mobile phone connected through the same wire. I have artifacts with any program the PC has to struggle to run, whatever the videocard i put in.
My PSU gave up in 2 years, and after that the monitor. It wouldn't turn on anymore, except sometimes if it was left "on" for an hour.By now we've also replaced the motherboard and the DVD drive doesn't recognise a DVD being in it half the time.. Two MP3 players (one of me, one of my little brother) stopped working after being connected to our PC once.
That was just hardware though.
We've had problems with virtually any program we wanted to install, except Firefox i think. We've never been able to build a network with a laptop that keeps functioning for over a month.

It can take hours to solve things like overheating, internet connections that won't work or sorting files.
Some people like puzzling like that, or know a lot about PC's. I used to be that way (You don't want to know what creative things i did to get the thing running again) but after this mayhem, i'm actually a bit scared of getting that new PC.

KB/M as controls...especially the keyboard, which should never be used for games. Frequent hardware upgrades, which do make it more expensive Compatibility problems (Pro Evolution Soccer 5 would constantly crash due to the gamepad for my controller- had to get alternative ones) Forced to be a slave to the Microsoft Corporation and purchase Windows

5 months? I had my last computer for 4 years and it ran everything, I upgraded last may for the price of a PS3 and won't need to upgrade for a while. Also it was worth getting it rather than a PS3 because 500 good games > 1 good game. :)

I was a BIG PC Only gamer for years.  My reason is three fold.  First the PC used to be the dominant first person shooter platform but in the last 3 to 4 years that has totally changed.  Virtually every good game on PC now makes its way to consoles.  Which brings me to Reason #2 - Whats the point in bothering with the upgrade headaches on PC when consoles are so much easier and playing on my Big screen compensates for the lack of B/M (which is the only thing I miss)

I still keep up with the PC Games and read reviews . I know all about Stalker and Crysis.  But Crysis isn't out and Cry already announced a version for consoles (albeit not exact and as good looking)  But honestly - whats the big deal? I am not graphix obsessed anymore and PC no longer has that amazing visual edge it use to - I can't bother with rebuilding my PC thing anymore.  Crysis will be the best looking game on any platform when it releases. But it won't be the most fun. Which brings me to point three.

Something happened to PC gaming.  All the FPShooters play exactly the same.  All the RTS game play EXACTLY the same .  Eveything is an imitation of everything else.  The really hot thing on PC now is MMORPG which I admit games like WOWarcraft are AMAZINGLY fun and addictive.  Alas, I haven't the time to reach 50 much less 60 levels through that game.  Still if you have a PC and the time I recommend WOW.

I guess PC and I just grew apart.

Whats there to hate about PC gaming?

Its still one of the best (if not the best) gaming systems for generations, and still is today :)

I really like my consoles, but I rather PC - thats my personal choice.

Thats not true. I've had my same system setup for over a year now and I can run nearly every game out there at maxed @1650x1050 WS, try again.

It's difficult.
It's laggy.
And my computer.
(1.6GHz P4, GeForce 6200, 512 RAM)
Which means my Half Life 2 runs at about 6 FPS. Hooray for the Orange Box!

EDIT:
Actually, I play a lot of Enemy Territory and Dawn of War so I guess I still kind of like PC.

I prefer the PC to consoles: Better controls (KB/M is the best possible way to play a first person shooter or an RTS game.) Im not really a graphic whore or anything of that nature but the hardware and technology allow for better looking games. The PC Gaming market appeals to me more than the console gaming market. The Xbox 360 does actually sound all right though, but i think will stick with the PC. ;)

Barely anyone here hates PC gaming, also almost everyone here games on a PC, hell, what are they posting with, we all play PC games, including I, and I think consoles are more fun, its my oppinion because I think its somuch simpler, and xbox live is more fun, and the exclusives suit me more fine. So stop it, barely anyone hates PC gaming, they just say its not as good as the hermit fanboys claim.

Installing. Patching. Cheaters. Carmilla31

Installing takes 3-5 minutes. It's idiot simple.  Click next a couple times, go get a drink or something, comeback, and boom your ready to go. Installing games allows for larger games and much faster loading times. This is probably one of the lamest excuses I see in SW on why people don't like PC gaming. Patching, it takes a couple minutes. Simple. Most games patch automatically nowadays anyways. It improves the game, so why are you complaining? Console games have patching nowadays also. So stop complaining. Cheaters? Cheaters are in console gaming too. So.....all your points are pretty much moot.

If you don't like FPS, RTS, Simulators and MMORPGs I can understand why you would not like the PC.

Personally for me PC = more freedom, games that are fun for much longer(BF2,CS,Starcraft,Diablo,Warcraft 3, Day of Defeat, HL2, WoW etc...) and more active multiplayer community.

I dont personally hate PC gaming but i can see why some people chose to hate it, Possibly because you have to update your PC alot just to play new games decently wheras a console is designed to handle these games very well some PC games are alot more buggier than their console competitors Some COnsole specific games never come out on PC

I hate it because I have this massive hatred of choppy frame rate. Combine this with my PC which struggles to run Guild Wars on the lowest setting. Also the keyboard isn't my favourite of all controllers (people complained the original Xbox controller was too big... :P ) as I always forget what button does what.

1)You don't need KB/M as your controllers, you can get a steering wheel or use the 360 controller
2) Your frequent hardware upgrades cost as much as your xbox live suscription if your using a 360.
3) Compatibility? 360 controller should solve any gamepad compatibility problems
4) Get linux, use WINE. Besides your using windows now

1. Yes, those controllers work oh-so-well in the vast majority of games that don't support them. Granted I would never want to play a RTS with a controller, every other genre...yeah, I want the option. It's getting better, but the fact is that the keyboard is considered the standard interface. Anybody with a brain should know that it is a horrid choice for most genres. 2. Frequent to me means every year there's probably going to be at least one hardware upgrade, which is quite common in PC gaming. That is, of course, unless you're willing to pay outrageous prices for the absolute best hardware available. 3. Agreed, but it doesn't change the fact that many games don't support it or the fact that I'm required to have a windows computer to use it (with the exception of emulators) 4. Linux= teh suck, BSD is far superior. Wine hardly makes gaming possible...even if you threw in Cedega, it still plays a fairly minuscule number of games. I only use Windows right now because I moved to a foreign country and my laptop is pretty much my only possible source of gaming. And you still missed the bigger point- if you don't play games on a PC, you have CHOICES in your OS. Now, you could just as well choose Vista to be your OS...that would be your choice. I wouldn't choose Windows if I had a next-gen console sitting next to my TV and could readily afford/buy games. If you play games, you have no choice but to pay $200+ for Vista.

I love PC gaming, hate the fanboys that vomit out ridiculous PC specs unnecessarily but in the same breath claim it's easier than console gaming and that you NEVER have to upgrade, yet their PCs seem to always have the latest videocards...Weird.

Yeah I hate it when people say "I could make a PC with ______ specs for $800 and it is better or just as good as the 360".

Yeah, it's pretty funny..I had a guy tell me that you can run Crysis on a 5 year old videocard....Why in the hell would you want to do that? To get the best experience you have to pay for it. There isn't anything wrong with that. A real PC gamer is not going to cheap out on his rig. It doesn't make any sense.

Why do so many people here in System Wars hate PC gaming? I am sure there is a more compelling argument than it costs too much. Just because you can not afford a gaming PC does not mean the PC has no good games. So what is it with you people that so passionately hate PC gaming?

More people hate PS3 here. Between people are jealous of PCs because PCs are always ahead of consoles except for the 6 months after the new console release and not many can afford PC gaming at all.

Because you don't HAVE to bud. It's your choice. Some people like to get into all the hardware and all that stuff, but is it necessary to run games at high settings? No. Is it necessary to run the games? No.

[QUOTE="BigDaddyPOLO"]Why do I hate it?
It's difficult.
It's laggy.
And my computer.
(1.6GHz P4, GeForce 6200, 512 RAM)
Which means my Half Life 2 runs at about 6 FPS. Hooray for the Orange Box!

EDIT:
Actually, I play a lot of Enemy Territory and Dawn of War so I guess I still kind of like PC.

It's laggy? WTF?

He could mean fps drops as lag.
