[QUOTE="heretrix"]I love PC gaming, hate the fanboys that vomit out ridiculous PC specs unnecessarily but in the same breath claim it's easier than console gaming and that you NEVER have to upgrade, yet their PCs seem to always have the latest videocards...Weird.trix5817

Because you don't HAVE to bud. It's your choice. Some people like to get into all the hardware and all that stuff, but is it necessary to run games at high settings? No. Is it necessary to run the games? No.

It doesn't make it any less annoying or erroneous.

My point:

People brag about how much better graphically the PC is (truth) yet get pissed when people say "But you have to upgrade". they respond with "No you don't, you never have to upgrade your videocard". (BS)

Then they brag about how much better the lastest videocard on the market is better than any console (true). If you never have to upgrade why not use specs from an older videocard? Because you can't. Try running a game like Crysis on a 9600 pro. If it runs at all, you will have to scale the game down so much that it isn't worth playing..This isn't even counting memory, CPU or motherboard upgrades...No you don't have to do it, but after awhile, it's ridiculous not to, unless you like slideshows..

It all just comes off a bit hypocritical to me that's all....There is nothing wrong with upgrading. But to lie and say that you never or rarely have to do it is silly. It's just as silly and false as console fanboys saying the PS3 or 360 can beat any PC...

Again, you have a CHOICE. Yes, after 3-4 years you will have to get a new PC or upgrade. But playing games on medium for a year or so is fine with me. If you want the best graphics around, then upgrade. That is all we are saying. You have a choice. No one is making you play the game maxxed. What is hypocritical is when console fanboys say "Not many people will be able to play Crysis on high settings because they don't have a high-end PC", then they'll say "But PC's cost $3000, and if you can't play games maxxed why even bother?". Hmmm....I think it's the console fanboys that are the real graphics whores...

I love PC gamnig and it's games. My only problem is that I'm more inclined towards console gaming, and I usually forget about upgrading my PC, so I end up with a pos every couple years that I pretty much need to build from scratch.

Then what I said is true. Why are you arguing? I don't care what console fanboys said. I closed out my previous post by saying they were silly. What are you reading? It is hypocritical to say that you don't have to upgrade when you do. It doesn't matter if it's a choice or not. If you choose not to you will face degraded performance issues..This is a fact. Stop trying to act like it isn't. Sure you can continue to play stuff, but I can say from experience some newer games run HORRIBLY on older cards..You have to upgrade or you will be playing a choppy version no matter what the settings..

I have a P4 3.06GHZ and a 6600GT with 1 gig of ram and 1.7 terabytes of HD space and some new games run like crap. The framerates run in the 20's....I know how to optimize my settings, but there comes a point where it's a waste to do so. Why are you going to buy a game with great graphics and have to water it down to something that looks worse than an Xbox game?

I dont hate it at all.

I have patience, knowledge, and money, therefore pc gaming suits me well. Theres nothing wrong with working hard for the most advanced gaming platform of all time.

People who hate it are usually lazy, have a lack of knowledge of technology, or have insufficient funds. some people just arent "smart" enough and get turned off, that usually how people respond to things they cant digest.

And you will pay quite a bit for that luxury. considerably more than a console.

None of my posts bash PC gaming, I'm just trying to put what people are saying in a more realistic light. I have never said console gaming is better than PC gaming or the reverse. I think it's a matter of choice and/or comfort..

PC gaming on the high end or a decent medium IS more expensive than console gaming, The games may be cheaper but the hardware to run the games can get pricey..Yes, you can choose to run games on medium settings, but for my taste, the experience is a bit weak as the games tend to have a choppy framerate that is annoying.

I think the major reason why people think consoles are better than PCs is that they are cheaper...but... you pay the price in the long run, e.g. xbox live subcscriptions also you have to pay for addons e.g. cars in PGR3. This all adds up.

I have a fairly decent gaming rig. However, I some of my components e.g. processor, ram is getting on for 2.5 years old. If you play the smart game with purchasing graphics card e.g. go for something middle top range. e.g. 7900gto or x1950xt you get superior graphics to the consoles, there is no game on consoles, inc GoW which can match high end PC graphics (see gamespot article on Prey 360vsPC).

The thing that i can't believe people can't see is that everyone here is using a PC to type on these message boards. Most people upgrade their computer every few years anyway- even if it is just buying a slightly faster system from DELL, HP or something. Yet if people actually used their nogign they would be able to buy that PC (which they would be doing anyway) spend the same as they would on a console e.g. £280 for an xbox360 which would go towards a 8800gts 640mb which is far far faster than a console. Yet people still say that they have to upgrade every 5 months, you don't. Your PC that you buy now will run games better than a console for the whole life on your system. As games get progressively more detailed and you are forced to run medium etc this will still look better than the console as you still have a more powerful system.

Which brings me next to mods, probably the single best reason why console games can't compete at the moment. Garry's Mod for example is perhaps the best mod ever- was completely free and is mega fun. Find an example on consoles of that? Just look at the masses of UT, Quake and HL2 Mods. It's insane.

Also controls- yes the gamepad is good for some games but it is not good for RTS/FPS games. Try playing an FPS on a gamepad and then on a keyboard and mouse, the gamepad seems clumbsy and inaccurate in comparison. THe RTS speeks or it's self really- it is truely terrible. Supcom and COH are two of the best RTS games out - they would be no where near as playable on a gamepad.

The comes to the price of the games. THe same game on both systems usually PC game is £30 and Xbox game is £50. £20 difference. Usually over a couple of years you'll buy maybe 25 games that is a massive £600 truely enough to upgrade you system with to make it even better.

Ah, the jewel the HDTV- most HDTV (certainly my Samsung r74) has PC input and i've tried most my games on it. Some times it fun e..g racing games, but other i prefer my monitor. THis is something consoles don't have over PCS.

I have 360 but i far prefer gaming on my PC.

Exactly. It goes both ways. I frown on either practice. People are entitled to their choice of gaming without someone coming in and telling them what is better. The only thing that is better is when you game on all platforms and don't have to choose. I do it and I love it.

Yeah. Seriously, the specs mean diddly squat. It's the games that matter. I especially dislike it when fanboys like "The Painkiller Guy" just spout off a bunch of technical jargon and proclaim "ownage." >_>

Check the benchmarks for ANY PC game....it achieves the 30 FRAMES PER SECOND of the consoles EASILY on those settings...
And in your country there might not be a great price difference but here in Europe it even might be smth like $35...

Dude why are you trying to simplify this? You know that all PCs do not produce the same results, so just stop it. And you are completely overlooking my whole argument just to make a silly point that I agreed with anyway.

So youre saying that a C2D6300 + 8600Ultra + 1.5GB RAM + 80GB HDD + DVD + 400W PSU  Machine wont run Oblivion on Xbox360 settings?
You consider 30fps/1280x720p/2xAA/AF as "high" settings? Cause thats at what the consoles run...
And why do you ignore the fact that a NON gaming PC costs at least $300?
It was YOU that made a silly overdone statement about slideshow...

To me , it's not the cost, It's the games. I just don't like what the system is offering.

Quite an odd thing for an abstract concept/activity to fail at life. I can see why you wouldn't want to explain yourself.

I've explained it many times before, there are far too many issues to deal with in order to play games on a PC.

PC gaming is basically all 3rd party games from consoles. But there are some great Pc games that i love (Warcraft, not the World of Warcrap but real Warcraft) Its just too dang expensive and a pain to install became sometimes something tiny can go wrong and mess up EVERYTHING, which is why i stick to consoles because its just pop in a disc and play. plus most people cant slump down on a couch when they're on their PCs. Mouse and Keyboard configureation doesnt give immersion and if u want to play with a controller on a PC you must be retarded.

Why do so many people here in System Wars hate PC gaming? I am sure there is a more compelling argument than it costs too much. Just because you can not afford a gaming PC does not mean the PC has no good games. So what is it with you people that so passionately hate PC gaming?
smokeydabear076

I hate having to upgrade my PC every year and a half to play games.  I hate sitting up to play games.  I'm a lazy butt and like to lie my fat behind in a recliner and game.  I hate keyboard and mouse for games even though that setup is better suited for strategy games with a lot of buttons and FPS.  It just feels cramped and uncomfortable for me.

I like my 50 inch widescreen TV much more than my crappy 19 inch monitor.  Console controllers feel more comfortable to me than KB/M.  I have a much better speaker setup for console gaming than PC.

I guess that's it.

Well on PC there are no 1st party developers. Even Msoft is technically 3rd party :P

I guess thats why PC is such a popular devlopment platform - Easy to develop, no restrictions, easy to distribute, no extra funds needed.

Thats why Hideo Kojima wants to develop a PC game - so he isnt shackled by the mother company, and is very free to experiment with new ideas.
Kinda sound like a mod developer :P

The main reason is simply that it is cost prohibitive. If an awsome new game comes out you may have to upgrade your pc a few times to be able to play it. It is a very reasonable sticking point for people. Sometimes there are instalation issues and what not. Consoles you put the game in and it plays. I Pc game and own all the the consoles, but I do see Pc gaming as a pain in the arse compared to consoles.

consoles dont hate pc, pc hates consoles (for the most part anyway) people who play pc games are GENERALLY hardcore players who cant get over the fact that "pc is the only real fps" in my experience, console gamers are just tired of crazy pc gamers who cant get over themselves I'm sure there are exceptions, but that is how it tends to go

Well no one forces you to hardware upgrade.
I could play Company of Heroes on my Geforce 2 MX if I really wanted to......
If you want to stay 'at the top of the hardware chain', smart buys every 3 to 4 years will be fine. No PC gamer should upgrade every year. Thats rediculous.

Intallation issues are usually product of the users wrong doing. e.g. tooling around with drivers and system files.
Same with virsus and spy ware. If you like your pr0n your in for a nasty surprise.

PC gaming is hardly a pain in the arse compared to console. Installation only takes a few minutes, and then your onto playing.
Consoles now get system updates like PC games - though the PC patches are more comprehensive when it comes to bug fixiing.
Not to mention the downloadable content for console is appaling, and there are microtransactions (which we get for free), no mod community, no user made tweaks and a subsricption fee.

No, pretty much your only statement, ever, is "PC gaming fails at life," and you use that to respond to every pro-PC thread, without ever backing the statement up. If you're going to say "I don't want to explain myself," then don't post it in the first place. >_>

[QUOTE="True_Gamer_"][QUOTE="heretrix"][QUOTE="True_Gamer_"]

[QUOTE="heretrix"]I guess you didn't read what I posted either, because you just proved my point.

PC games MAXED>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Console Games

And you will pay quite a bit for that luxury. considerably more than a console.

PC games on MEDIUM settings = Console Games

And it will be slideshow city....

None of my posts bash PC gaming, I'm just trying to put what people are saying in a more realistic light. I have never said console gaming is better than PC gaming or the reverse. I think it's a matter of choice and/or comfort..

PC gaming on the high end or a decent medium IS more expensive than console gaming, The games may be cheaper but the hardware to run the games can get pricey..Yes, you can choose to run games on medium settings, but for my taste, the experience is a bit weak as the games tend to have a choppy framerate that is annoying.

smokeydabear076

Check the benchmarks for ANY PC game....it achieves the 30 FRAMES PER SECOND of the consoles EASILY on those settings...
And in your country there might not be a great price difference but here in Europe it even might be smth like $35...

Dude why are you trying to simplify this? You know that all PCs do not produce the same results, so just stop it. And you are completely overlooking my whole argument just to make a silly point that I agreed with anyway.

So youre saying that a C2D6300 8600Ultra 1.5GB RAM 80GB HDD DVD 400W PSU Machine wont run Oblivion on Xbox360 settings?
You consider 30fps/1280x720p/2xAA/AF as "high" settings? Cause thats at what the consoles run...
And why do you ignore the fact that a NON gaming PC costs at least $300?
It was YOU that made a silly overdone statement about slideshow...

It is not going to be that way forever, and with consoles you get the guarantee of performance for its lifespan.

Yes but it will last until the end of the console's lifespan...
And lets be realistic the only thing that will require upgrading will be the GPU, since we lived with 512mb of cache at CPUs for 5 years without any problem or any bottlenecking the C2D6300 has a massive of 2mb of cache...Plus I cant see any new GPU slot coming so the PCIE will last at least until 2012...
The most important part is the fact that the Xbox360 settings wont increase so the 8600Ultra wont have any strain put on it...espessially if it runs in SM3.0/DX9 and not in SM4.0/DX10 since having a shader and API setting older gives huge space for performance...
There is this illusion that next gen consoles are magically monstrus machines that the releasing comapny stole from some factory and selling for a fraction of its price...the truth is that these are mediocre hardware running on medium settings and with restricted limited and cut down games using programming tricks and plenty of marketing brainwash tpo give an illusion of technical achievement...

A high end PC for $3000 Aus? I managed to get myself a 7900GT, C2D and 2GB of RAM for about $900 AUS late last year. Maxxed out Oblivion. All it takes is knowing what you need, and shopping for bargains.
