[QUOTE="heretrix"]I love PC gaming, hate the fanboys that vomit out ridiculous PC specs unnecessarily but in the same breath claim it's easier than console gaming and that you NEVER have to upgrade, yet their PCs seem to always have the latest videocards...Weird.trix5817
My point:
People brag about how much better graphically the PC is (truth) yet get pissed when people say "But you have to upgrade". they respond with "No you don't, you never have to upgrade your videocard". (BS)
Then they brag about how much better the lastest videocard on the market is better than any console (true). If you never have to upgrade why not use specs from an older videocard? Because you can't. Try running a game like Crysis on a 9600 pro. If it runs at all, you will have to scale the game down so much that it isn't worth playing..This isn't even counting memory, CPU or motherboard upgrades...No you don't have to do it, but after awhile, it's ridiculous not to, unless you like slideshows..
It all just comes off a bit hypocritical to me that's all....There is nothing wrong with upgrading. But to lie and say that you never or rarely have to do it is silly. It's just as silly and false as console fanboys saying the PS3 or 360 can beat any PC...

I have a P4 3.06GHZ and a 6600GT with 1 gig of ram and 1.7 terabytes of HD space and some new games run like crap. The framerates run in the 20's....I know how to optimize my settings, but there comes a point where it's a waste to do so. Why are you going to buy a game with great graphics and have to water it down to something that looks worse than an Xbox game?

I dont hate it at all.
I have patience, knowledge, and money, therefore pc gaming suits me well. Theres nothing wrong with working hard for the most advanced gaming platform of all time.
People who hate it are usually lazy, have a lack of knowledge of technology, or have insufficient funds. some people just arent "smart" enough and get turned off, that usually how people respond to things they cant digest.
PC games MAXED>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Console GamesI guess you didn't read what I posted either, because you just proved my point.
PC games on MEDIUM settings = Console Games
The Console settings are medium by PC standards Crysis on medium will look SAME as any next gen console game...
If you want to have better graphics that the consoles you will have to upgrade every 3 years if you want SAME graphics you dont...

PC games MAXED>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Console Games
And you will pay quite a bit for that luxury. considerably more than a console.

And it will be slideshow city....
None of my posts bash PC gaming, I'm just trying to put what people are saying in a more realistic light. I have never said console gaming is better than PC gaming or the reverse. I think it's a matter of choice and/or comfort..
PC gaming on the high end or a decent medium IS more expensive than console gaming, The games may be cheaper but the hardware to run the games can get pricey..Yes, you can choose to run games on medium settings, but for my taste, the experience is a bit weak as the games tend to have a choppy framerate that is annoying.
I think the major reason why people think consoles are better than PCs is that they are cheaper...but... you pay the price in the long run, e.g. xbox live subcscriptions also you have to pay for addons e.g. cars in PGR3. This all adds up.
I have a fairly decent gaming rig. However, I some of my components e.g. processor, ram is getting on for 2.5 years old. If you play the smart game with purchasing graphics card e.g. go for something middle top range. e.g. 7900gto or x1950xt you get superior graphics to the consoles, there is no game on consoles, inc GoW which can match high end PC graphics (see gamespot article on Prey 360vsPC).
The thing that i can't believe people can't see is that everyone here is using a PC to type on these message boards. Most people upgrade their computer every few years anyway- even if it is just buying a slightly faster system from DELL, HP or something. Yet if people actually used their nogign they would be able to buy that PC (which they would be doing anyway) spend the same as they would on a console e.g. £280 for an xbox360 which would go towards a 8800gts 640mb which is far far faster than a console. Yet people still say that they have to upgrade every 5 months, you don't. Your PC that you buy now will run games better than a console for the whole life on your system. As games get progressively more detailed and you are forced to run medium etc this will still look better than the console as you still have a more powerful system.
Which brings me next to mods, probably the single best reason why console games can't compete at the moment. Garry's Mod for example is perhaps the best mod ever- was completely free and is mega fun. Find an example on consoles of that? Just look at the masses of UT, Quake and HL2 Mods. It's insane.
Also controls- yes the gamepad is good for some games but it is not good for RTS/FPS games. Try playing an FPS on a gamepad and then on a keyboard and mouse, the gamepad seems clumbsy and inaccurate in comparison. THe RTS speeks or it's self really- it is truely terrible. Supcom and COH are two of the best RTS games out - they would be no where near as playable on a gamepad.
The comes to the price of the games. THe same game on both systems usually PC game is £30 and Xbox game is £50. £20 difference. Usually over a couple of years you'll buy maybe 25 games that is a massive £600 truely enough to upgrade you system with to make it even better.
Ah, the jewel the HDTV- most HDTV (certainly my Samsung r74) has PC input and i've tried most my games on it. Some times it fun e..g racing games, but other i prefer my monitor. THis is something consoles don't have over PCS.
I have 360 but i far prefer gaming on my PC.

Why do so many people here in System Wars hate PC gaming? I am sure there is a more compelling argument than it costs too much. Just because you can not afford a gaming PC does not mean the PC has no good games. So what is it with you people that so passionately hate PC gaming?
smokeydabear076
I hate having to upgrade my PC every year and a half to play games. I hate sitting up to play games. I'm a lazy butt and like to lie my fat behind in a recliner and game. I hate keyboard and mouse for games even though that setup is better suited for strategy games with a lot of buttons and FPS. It just feels cramped and uncomfortable for me.
I like my 50 inch widescreen TV much more than my crappy 19 inch monitor. Console controllers feel more comfortable to me than KB/M. I have a much better speaker setup for console gaming than PC.
I guess that's it.

smokeydabear076
The main reason is simply that it is cost prohibitive. If an awsome new game comes out you may have to upgrade your pc a few times to be able to play it. It is a very reasonable sticking point for people. Sometimes there are instalation issues and what not. Consoles you put the game in and it plays. I Pc game and own all the the consoles, but I do see Pc gaming as a pain in the arse compared to consoles.mojito1988

No, pretty much your only statement, ever, is "PC gaming fails at life," and you use that to respond to every pro-PC thread, without ever backing the statement up. If you're going to say "I don't want to explain myself," then don't post it in the first place. >_>[QUOTE="True_Gamer_"][QUOTE="heretrix"][QUOTE="True_Gamer_"]Check the benchmarks for ANY PC game....it achieves the 30 FRAMES PER SECOND of the consoles EASILY on those settings...
