Idk what that means. Are you Davekeeh? Because that's who I was responding too. Motokid6

I only played it in Alpha, but it looked good to me and that was just in alpha state.

no, I feel like a big budget exclusive like arma should be more impressive visually. it doesn't have the excuse of being held back by consoles. there hasn't been a PC game that really pushed boundries (graphically) since crysis. I want to see what PC is truly capable of

Arma 3 III Big budget?! Holy shit did you miss the mark by a mile. The game looks pretty damn amazing in action from all the hours I've seen out of it, and the depth is unmatched. You should probably also take into consideration the huge amount of information the game is processing that 99.9% of other games don't bother to go into. The game is based off a military simulator so it does have a ton of overhead calculations going on behind the scene. Probably a ridiculously overbloated and slow engine, unfortunately.

Dude...you clearly have not played Arma III, because it pushes boundaries, every bit as much as Crysis did. And thare have been multitude of titles between it and Crysis that did exactly the same thing.

Isn't SC budget around 18 million I know most of its came from crowdfunds and assuming Arma 3 cost less than that to develop a game with large scale that pushes certain boundaries don't come cheap.

It is made by an independent studio for a small fraction of a game like Killzone Shadowfall, and it's a massive open-ended simulation with one of the biggest maps and closest attention to detail to this scale in any videogame. There's nothing like it, not your GTAs not your Battlefield 4's or whatever.

That isn't it's budget, they will have a whole lot more capital raised in order to finance it. Same with many Kickstarter projects except for those homegrown ones. By that I mean- 1 million is a very tight game budget unless you're a dude working out of your room with a few others remotely and not worrying about pay more than a weeks rent and food. It is all relative to what your studio is and what you're working on.

I think they captured the look and tone of photorealism better then many other games. Games like Crysis 3 looks amazing, but it is far from looking photorealistic because of the art style.

*Boots up Arma3 looks at the graphics, shuts it down again* So TC... either you hagve the most horrible PC of all times (one that can barely even run the game). Or you need glasses (or simply take off the fanboy goggles, that alone would help).

Game looks pretty damn impressive on my pc, it gives BF3 a run for the money. And size does have an influence on graphics aswell. Give me a console game where I can see a firefight from other players 10 km away ingame, with the same kind of graphics, and come back to me. Oh wait you can't because Consoles have not the scale nor alot that can match Arma3s visuals.

Well movement looks rather rough, alot of reused assets from what Ive seen. It is by no means perfect, it is a mid tier game. One that seemingly kicks the ass of pretty much any game showed sofar on the next gen of consoles (not that conolse games wont get better looking as time goes by, the launchgames always look butt ugly).

Oh make no mistake Arma3 is an improvement allround. It still looks a bit odd to look at, and I AM annoyied with some texturework, which I do find sub par (still not nearly like weve allready seen in alot of screenies allready of alot of upcomming games). It is by no means perfect, but it is shaping up to be alot more enjoyable over Arma2. which was in all fairness fairly bad in times. there still is some clipping aswell.

All in all, I find it rather impressive. Especially when you factor in size, and the ability to build whatever area you want. But looking at the best of movement in gaming, to this, there is some way to go (we are talking realistic movement here, not over the top action movie movement, just like we don't talk about action movie explosions here).

But overall? yeah huge improvement over Arma 2 ^^ just not where Id wish it were.

Just another boring sim so who cares?

jun_aka_pekto

Arma 3 isnt a sim. VBS is a sim.

What's the difference between the two besides VBS being tailored more for a country's military training?

Wouldn't it be similar to X-Plane 10 vs X-Plane 10 Pro (FAA-spec) and MS Flight Simulator X vs Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D?

Arma 3 isnt designed to be ultra realistic like VBS is, it is designed to be fun and a little more accesible. Arma III does keep some of its simulatory elements in order to maintain a little realism. VBS is designed for military training and simulates realistic scenarios for that perpose. From a gameplay perspective the scenarios and level of simulation in VBS would be quite tedious in Arma III.

Jesus christ, it looks so "bad" because it has a map that is probably larger than GTA V, with WAY more special effects, everything being rendered in REAL TIME and having 2000 AI battles, etc.

Mozelleple112
You expect most of SW to actually know how a engine works much less what its rendering? I almost laughed when I read past the first sentence...

graphically its not pushing any goddamn boundries, because graphics is what I'm talking about here. I thought I made that painfully clear

black_chamber99

What's painfully clear is that you have no clue about technology behind games. Arma III is pushing boundaries graphically. No question about it. Because the scale is also part of the graphics.

Hermits like to say that consoles are holding gaming back, but the reality is, their inferior low spec computers do

Davekeeh

Even the HD 4000, an APU on the Ivy Bridge chip, has better graphics and framerate than the console version of Battlefield 3.
