It isnt the best shooter and i personally dont like the shooter genre but why do people hate COD so much? BO2 actually looks pretty good and the trailer for zombies look fantastic.

is it because its popular? or does SW hates anything mainstream? im just curious to know why honestly

Because it's popular and fun without being pretentious. SW would rather hype obscure, average games then admit to enjoying COD!

Because activision betrayed the formula that made the first two games so successful and went for a casual oriented brainless shooter with very little to no emphasis on providing a half decent campaign.

That goes for Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, most certainly Black Ops 2 and people like to pretend that Call of Duty 3 never happened.

It's because it is so popular that other developers start copying the hell out of it and turn anything into a wannabe-Call of Duty. Call of Duty is fine (expect MW3 which was sh*t). The problem is the popularity and everything wanting to be like Call of Duty.

It's an easy target because everyone plays it or has at some point, plus hipster kids like to be ahead of the curve to keep that interwebz cred up.

People only "hate" it on SW and the internet, in real life most people love it and I can bet you that most of these COD "haters" on here all secretly play COD too.

SW is full of dumb kids who think it makes them "cool" to go against popular things, many of the COD "haters" on here are just people trying to fit in, which is just stupid, who cares about fitting in on the interent? If you can't be your own individual than quite frankly your not worth knowing in the first place.

explain.....since MW4 COD held the same multiplayer formula and mechanics just tuned them to make them more balanced in later installments.

it didnt really help much though, as with the campaign the BO campaign was really good. well to me personally

COD 4 was awesome, gun-play mechanics were refined beautifully by COD4, i was talking with a few installmets in mind, specifically MW2, MW3, BO2 and COD3. By the time you asked this question i had already clarified that in my OP.

I'm not one of the guys who are trying to "fit in". It's just because COD releases every damn year with little to no changes. They are not games. They are DLCs and yet they charge £40 for them! This is exactly why people hate COD now.

thats what im not understanding, how is it actually COD's fault for making other devs copy.

BF3 has the exact same COD feel(from the ex IW devs) but put its own spin on it and it gets praised all the time.

i see why people would not like COD but i dont get the hate hoenstly

People don't like it because it isn't deserving of its incredible success. Just like the Transformers movies. It would be like if Duke Nukem Forever went on to sell 20 million units. I'm not saying CoD is terrible, but it definitely isn't anything special and there are many better games out there.

Extreme rehash, paying $60 yearly for something that barely passes off as an expansion pack, extremely noobish and casual to the point it makes halo look hardcore....it makes CS/Quake/TF2 look like you solved the mystery of the universe.

yea i just found out afterwards sorry.

i mean you have a point it does certainly feel like a half ass job but i do feel BO did alot of things right to change the monstrosity of MW2 and BO2 seems to be shaking up things a bit from the disaster of MW3.

the only thing i dont agree with is that you have BO up there with the games you chose to represent your statement

Thats not entirely true... COD4 MW was insanely loved by the core... It was championed by many people for its fluidity and cinematic feel as well as its outstanding MP... it was only later on a midst the global success that people turned on it. Really, the reasons are limitless... activision, yearly installments, Milking, copycat COD games... the list goes on and on.

MANY better shooter? i dont really think so since basically every shooter this gen uses the same COD mechanic or the GEoW cover trick.

DNF was a bad game though:P the COD games arent really that bad honestly

Not everyone is good at it

So if someone is not good at the game and gets frustrated playing then they won't like the game

(not saying i'm any good at it myself but i do enjoy playing)

They are similar and on the same engine, but they offer brand new campaigns which are always of good quality, great multiplayer, and good co-op modes, as well as some new things. I know what I'm buying when I buy COD, and I'm happy with it. Don't fix what ain't broken.

That being said, you should look at Black Ops 2. It's making some BIG changes to the series. And hating a game is just stupid. Just ignore a game you don't like, no one makes you buy them.

"noobish and casual" are good things. The vast majority of people play games for fun. That's why accessable games like Mario Kart and COD will always sell better then hardcore racing/shooter sims.

I didn't care much for CoD4. I will say it had the least bad single player campaign out of all the CoD games so I guess that is something. The multiplayer was completely broken. I remember my first match I spawned on top of a grenade. The second time I spawned right next to enemy players. I never played that multiplayer again after that.

Arnold Schwarzennegger movies are popular. People love them. They're some of the most successful movies of all times. Nobody hates on them, or him (as an actor), and you know why? Because he has no delusions, he acknowledges exactly what he is. He makes jokes about how bad his own acting his. He laughs at the prospect of one of his movies ever winning an oscar. Nobody cites Predator as the best piece of cinematic art ever made, they laugh at how awesome GET TO DA CHOPPER is. This suitably explains the beef with COD. Cod can be summarised in one word; dumb. It is a dumb, dumb, dumb game played by a lot of really dumb people. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, and I enjoyed getting my idiot on and playing Modern Warfare as much as the next guy. But it becomes a problem, and an irritation, when you get fanatics saying it's the greatest game of all the time, the best FPS in history, the killer app of the year. Accept that you enjoy a yearly installment of an incredibly stupid game offering the most simplistic of simpleton pleasures and nobody will have beef with you. At least you know what you're doing.

haha, well you wouldve HATED MW2... because that game had some really shiity maps and spawning (well to me anyway). I actually enjoyed MW1 the most thus far. I admit that I don't buy them anymore though and mostly because of the 8 hour SP. I need it to be at least 15 hours before I start considering a $60 purchase because I spend the least amount of time on MP.

I wouldn't say I hate a game unless it really did something to me that just sucks lol.

I've played a lot of MW, BO, MW3 and I enjoyed the time spent. But, I would never say those games deserve the scores/hype they get.

It shouldnt even BE a rule damit.

I think people that make huge, sweeping generalisations without evidence are dumb.

[QUOTE="Zero5000X"][QUOTE="TheEroica"] Thats not entirely true... COD4 MW was insanely loved by the core... It was championed by many people for its fluidity and cinematic feel as well as its outstanding MP... it was only later on a midst the global success that people turned on it. Really, the reasons are limitless... activision, yearly installments, Milking, copycat COD games... the list goes on and on.TheEroica
I didn't care much for CoD4. I will say it had the least bad single player campaign out of all the CoD games so I guess that is something. The multiplayer was completely broken. I remember my first match I spawned on top of a grenade. The second time I spawned right next to enemy players. I never played that multiplayer again after that.

haha, well you wouldve HATED MW2... because that game had some really shiity maps and spawning (well to me anyway). I actually enjoyed MW1 the most thus far. I admit that I don't buy them anymore though and mostly because of the 8 hour SP. I need it to be at least 15 hours before I start considering a $60 purchase because I spend the least amount of time on MP.

MW2 is the worst COD i played after MW3

What you said would almost be sig worthy if it wasn't blatantly obvious it's something you'd say.

[QUOTE="ShadowMoses900"]

ShadowMoses900

I'm not one of the guys who are trying to "fit in". It's just because COD releases every damn year with little to no changes. They are not games. They are DLCs and yet they charge £40 for them! This is exactly why people hate COD now.

If you like COD, great for you.

The reason why I'm bothered about this is that it affects other games. Because of how popular it is and how much sales it is getting, other games are trying to copy it which simply lead to them being ruined. I don't like this.

The number of quality games have decreased because of COD. That's why!

DING,DING,DING. We have a winner folks!

I can get behind his statement, sure... I only take issue with calling the game "dumb" what does that even mean? Ya there is no deep RPG menus or a lot of thought that goes into the general gameplay, but it does take skill in a different capacity. Especially online. I'm no COD apologist, I just don't think "dumb" is the right word. Shallow? Linear? Popcorn? Simple?
