Half-Life 2 released 3 years after Halo. HL3 not being released is not bungie's fault, go whine at Valve's office, they're too busy doing something else, or too lazy producing half life 3

VGCReporter

half life came out before halo. notice the 2 in half life 2. luckily the half life series is one of the only good remaining fps series.

half life was a bit before halo, i wouldnt say its better due to that eclusivesly. halo is essentially the most significant series in fps

Are you kidding? Considering Half life came out in 1999, it did not just have stunning graphics, but an actual interesting story, great scripted events, a large variety of different weapons, cool enemies, superior gameplay to nearly every other shooter, full 3D, not to mention it is the king of mods to this very date.

Halo maybe a good game but it is absolutely complete and utter NOTHING compared to half-life

Why has System Wars suddenly start thinking Mass Effect 2 is the best thing coming out next year? :? I know it looks great, and will probably be an awesome game, but I think we're all forgetting the biggest project for Bungie -- Halo: Reach. Reach will destroy Mass Effect 2 in every single way - hype, pre-orders, sales, reviews, quality, multiplayer service, campaign, longevity. People need to quit thinking Mass Effect is the King of 2010, for that goes to Reach.

--

Sure, she's pretty. But people need to realize that it's not the cast (whether they're good at their thing or not) that makes a game great. It's the developers. Not realizing this will result in an insane hype by the fans, ultimately resulting in a disappointment.

Reach is going to lacerate Mass Effect 2 in every single way - Hail to the King.

People hype Halo too much, but I think Halo is just another addition to the series of already overpopulated Halo games... Mass Effect has had people wanting a sequel since the final sequence in the first game. More Hype because its wanted more. (This doesn't mean it will sell more tho)

Its easier to be exited for a game thats coming out in a month when the other game isnt coming out for almost another year. Im getting both so I get to have two great games and not be a fanboy and have to overlook the other.

I am hyped for ME2, I wont lie I have been replaying the first game to get myself ready for the release. For me while Halo Reach may outsell ME2 cause you could put a turd in a box, slap the halo logo on it and it will sell. However I feel that Mass Effect 2 will be a far better game.

I can see you're a fellow 360 fan like myself. But the two games are entirely different. Halo appeals to FPS fans who just want to let go, have fun and shoot everything in their path while jumping around. Mass Effect is an RPG where you make a character and play him as you see fit. Making decisions for you and your group, while helping others through quests to progress the story. They aren't related.

Ok, first... its crazy to get in here and basically pit two 360 exclusives against each other. Maybe you should carry that to the 360 boards. Second.. I am a HUGE Halo fan, and I am indeed looking forward to Halo: Reach. Halo is what got me to buy an xbox, for petes sakes!! This said, Mass Effect was better than Halo to me. So, for me at least, YES I am more excited for Mass Effect 2, than Halo: Reach. Third... why would you compare and RPG to a FPS? Why does it bother you so much??

thread (should have been) ended in one post. but yeah, all I see for bungie in future are cash-ins on the Halo franchise. sure they had their 3-4 years of glory with Halo 1-3, but it's going to be difficult for them to ever get out of that and start producing great games totally separate from the halo franchise imo.

mass effect 2 is the first insanely awesome game to come out next year. Then heavy rain will start being hyped up to infinity. Then god of war. Then alan wake. And so forth. It is the taste of the month for gamers. And I have no idea what is going to be the best game this year. But mass effect 2 looks awesome and buy worthy.

Doesn't matter. People have really been overhyping this title recently.

VGCReporter

It's not that bad.UC2 and Killzone hype were way higher. It's surprisingly silent for this game.

Yep -- Killzone 2 was probably the most hyped game in SW history, but the quality of original ME doesn't make the sequel worthy of such hype it's attaining at the present time around the gaming world.

ME1 was WAY better than Uncharted 1 and Assassin's Creed 1, and both of those sequels got a ton of hype and scored very well.

Bioware > Bungie...Jandurin
C'mon now, Me love both but one must, must put into perspective....

Bungie King of FPS ( yeah I know, IMHO ) & Bioware King of RPG soooo. all depends on what genre one likes best. For me.... ohhh, that is so tough to answer where Bungie Halo concerned but....

ME2 my most anticipated so there ya are but damn that as tough as nails. :P

Can't end like this so must add a .... Bungie freakin rocks in delivering the most complete, balanced, smooth as silk, Dev. supported games ever. :D

So did I, Mass Effect was great thou, my only problem was the repetitive planet exploring and linear side quests

which Im sure got fixed in the sequal, so with that said maybe it has a chance on overal being better than Halo:Reach

The halo games, excluding the first one, in my experience (stopped playing them after 2) are fine examples of generic mediocrity as far as FPS's are concerned. Bioware, on the other hand, have crafted a pretty well realized world with Mass Effect, and anyone who played ME1, and enjoyed it, is sure to agree that ME 1 was a lot more special than the last several Halo games. I think many people fail to realize that Mass Effect is not a arcadey shooter, but rather a Action/RPG with third person shooting and tactical combat.

The only thing the two series have in common is a Sci-Fi setting, i'm sure that RPG fans will enjoy Mass Effect 2 more, and Halo fans will enjoy Halo Reach more. To each his own.

Those side quests damn near ruined the game for me :(

Thankfully, however, BioWare appear to have listened to the cries of raging Mass Effect players and have been hard at work to resolve many of the issues and inconveniences coupled with the game for the sequel.

The ME universe that BioWare have crafted is nothing short of amazing and I really can't wait to take on the next chapter of the game.

Being a bit sceptical about Halo: Reach (I didn't quite like Halo 2, I've only scratched the surface of Halo 3's Single Player portion and haven't as much as glanced in ODST's direction), I'm currently anticipating ME2 over it. However, having read The Fall of Reach, if Bungie can live up to that book, Halo: Reach should be brilliant. We'll see more on what the game has to offer come Saturday (trailer at VGA).

As for Alan Wake, yes! Bring it! I'm just hoping that a PC version will see the light of day.

seriously? that's like getting a 99 or 98 on an exam and crying about not getting the 100%. it's still pretty damn good. ---------- I've loved the Mass Effect series since it started, seriously is the only console exclusive that keeps me having my 360, and my greatest incentive to build a gaming rig. I just really love that franchise. and yes i'm on the many who HOPES it comes to PS3 - if it ever does. (I will await the gamer to tell me it's a never.....)

I feel cheated to be honest. With the game initially being advertised as one of the future titles to thoroughly utilize multiple CPU cores in a stand-out way. Hell, to my knowledge the game's first showcasing was at some event held by Intel, running on some Quad 2 Core processor; thus cementing the belief that Alan Wake would primarily be a PC game. I even built my rig with the game in mind :P

Ah well, the tides tend to swiftly change in this industry. I'm still not planning to be missing out on the game; will probably fetch a 360 if I have to. I probably would had done just that either way; with a strong 360 line-up coming and all. :)

Yeah, I haven't quite been able to touch the campaign yet; which quite sucks since I'm quite fond of the story (or storytelling rather, especially in the original).

But I've played multiplayer extensively...often with a batch of friends. And it's as fun as ever :D

I've played ME1, am playing ME1, and own both ME novels. Even with that I disagree especially since you are comparing an RPG to an FPS. Their universes are both on the same level IMO. One is just told better than the other given their genres.

[QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"]In the newest interview Matias said no plans for a PC version. Nearly crushes my hopes for the PC version every time i hear that. :[ToScA-

I feel a bit cheated as well. Alan Wake and Crysis were the two games i was thinking about while building my PC. I'll feel even more cheated if i buy it for 360 and then it 's announced for PC 6 months later. : P Right now i'm just gonna continue waiting for 1up to put up their "5 Things You Don't Know About Alan Wake" article. : ]

Like that... I definately agree.

Honestly TC it's called PREFERENCE. Why do so few people here understand that?

All that needs to be said, really.

I'll take the phenomenal awesome of Mass Effect over Online Shooter #10789. Nothing against Halo, but it just can't compete.

clone01

Yeah, expect you forgot this "Bungie" actually popularized FPS on consoles, and with Halo 2, they popularized online on consoles, and since then, everybody has been following them. Some love for the innovators, thanks!

actually, it can be argued that goldeneye on the nintendo 64 popularized console shooters.

It basically was the first good FPS for consoles. But the N64 controller was crap for FPS's

I still remember the pain in my thumbs after exceeding the recommended dosages of playing Goldeneye007 with my mates. Was it worth it though? Hell yes!

You see it's a very niche game, at least the first one was anyway, but to actual fans of the story and Mass Effect universe Mass Effect 2 is the best thing ever because it has elevated its self further than just being a story with placeholder gameplay. Even I think it has a brilliant chance of being GOTY '10...
