much like some people claimed a 600 dollar system was on par with a 400 dollar system to make them selves feel better...hmmm. I'm simply using the same logic...then again we all get our butts handed to us by the Wii...250 bucks and what 60 million sold so far?

WilliamRLBaker

The difference is that with the $600 system you're actually paying for something extra like Bluray while with Live you are really paying for something you're already paying for.

lol the difference was one was 600 dollars for no reason really, and one is 50 dollars for no reason...wait theres no difference. But really in the end it was certain people clamoring those first days about how the ps3 was completely worth it, when it had no justifiably amazing better then 360 games for all most a year. but we all know the real reason, this is system wars, its why we use such terms and things against each other. I've noticed quite a few topics and people that are surprised and actually asking the question of why lately.

I'm talking about real worth here not subjective worth. How can it be for no reason if the PS3 sold at a lower cost than it was produced? That means you were paying for something at a lower cost than it was worth. For Live you're paying for online connectivity which you are paying to your internet service provider already. That means you're paying for something that is not worth what you're paying for. It's very simple really.

I was playing MAG last night, and it lagged. And while discussing MAG, let's talk about the lack of a universal party system on PSN for a second. Let's say you enjoy a match with a pick up group and want to play with them again. You're out of luck. With LIVE, by contrast, if you like someone, you party up with them and can continue playing with them (Reach, for instance) no matter what game type you want to try. And sorry, but Live isn't as laggy as you claim it to be, and PSN isn't as lag free as you claim it to be either. They are the same in that respect. If not, perhaps you have a crummy internet connection or need to forward some ports on your router.

alot of people love the MS kool aid. they have to justify paying $60 for something offered for free on other consoles. psn is not as bad as some make it out to be.

I don't think they should compare PSN to XBL since PSN is free but XBL is paid. But yes, PSN is inferior than both steam and XBL. But it's free! Also, XBL only has around 24M users despite over 40M 360 sold. It means that there are many people who never bother using XBL, or just can't effort to pay the fee over 16M. While Blizzard's battle.net has over 28M users (I doubt how many are still active on both account though). The only console with bad online is Wii. It's the worst. :(

If the PSN could match LIVE feature for feature and remain free, I'd agree with you, but as it stands, they can't, so you are misrepresenting the situation. Free is good, but if PSN let me pay $60 to get everything I got out of LIVE I would gladly pay it. PS+ sadly falls short of LIVE in terms of online features, so it's not appealing from a feature perspective at all in terms of actual gaming.

don't confuse not as good with bad.

if you need an example of not as good just last night i was at my friends house and he wanted to play the enslaved demo and it took 52 mins to dl then another 10 to install.

just one minor little difference but it's still pretty lame in comparason to the 10-15 mins it took me to dl it from xbl.

Were there any price comparison threads? I remember seeing them on GAF and other forums back in the day.

Off topic: Sorry, but that avatar makes me laugh every time I see it. Plus it is from one of my alltime favorite games. Had to get that out.

I play online on PS3 all the time, it never lags, I play with friends online all the time and I enjoy the hell out of it. Why does everyone say it's so bad and Xbox live is so better?? I don't get that, I've never had problems on PSN.

navyguy21
Have you tried Steam? Xbox Live? You would be able to tell the differences if you experienced either for some time. I dont think people are saying its BAD, just not up to par (or as seamless) as those two services.

PSN > XBL by far. Adverts? Money? No dedicated servers? Lag? PSN tho.

Of course there's a reason. The ps3 was 600 dollars because that was the amount of loss Sony found acceptable. The price goes down as the tech gets cheaper.

Live was 50 because that was the amount MS believed they could coerce out of its user base for a feature that everyone else gets for free. And as the service stays the same, the price goes up.

PSN is hardly on-par. And now Sony is charging with PSN+. On the other hand, Steam is free, and it's the closest thing to being "on-par" with XBL. So what's Sony's excuse this time? Hmm?

Except that the 600 became 300 and the 50 became 60.

Bringing up PS+ just indicates you have no idea what it is, what it's for, or what it provides (or, rather, what it doesn't provide).

PS+ is not part of this discussion, as it has nothing to do with online play.

The online play portion is on par with Live, in the case of many exclusives, far better than anything found on Live. I suspect Steam is much better than both due to a higher presence of dedicated servers.

More like what's both companies' excuses. You said it yourself "On the other hand, Steam is free, and it's the closest thing to being 'on-par' with XBL". Clearly both companies could offer more options for consumers.

the actual gaming is all the same on every platform, its those little features like cross game chat that people care about.
