Fire Emblems usually have good stories.

Vandalvideo

Radiant Dawn is just WW2 with different names. 0_o

Congratulations, you picked out the FE game with the worst storyline. Now lets ignore the fact that he said "most" and then lets ignore all the other FE games ever released.

Well that would make the one on the Gamecube WW1 with different names so.... I only ever played the Radiant arc.

Path of Radiance had an awesome story. Something that most reviewers also pointed out.

Disagree about Mass Effect. It was an entirely new universe with tons of backstory. You strike me as the type of person who would say that WoW has very little to no storyline.Just because its not shoved down your throat like a sunday morning cartoon doesn't mean its not there.Vandalvideo

Too bad I dont think that.

Then why would you say that about Masss EffecT? WoW and ME are in the same boat. They have brilliant storylines.

I was talking about WoW, im sorry I come off as the type, but I dont think that mass effect's story>KOTOR.

Your generalizations wont work.

KOTOR was based on an established universe that has been fleshed out for god knows how long. ME was entirely new and the sheer ammount of backstory they have in that game makes it great. Try reading the codecs.

And? Either way KOTOR>mass effect, also KOTOR is before the starwars story line, meaning ALOT of the stuff that happens came from scrtach or they made up.

Lol did you just call Nintendo lazy? Their games are the best in the industry. (Ya I know Blizzard, Valve etc. For me it's Nintendo!)

Even if their games are the best in the industry, how does this stop them from being lazy in an area of game development?

Because they aren't? If they were lazy how would they make such games.

It pains me that this is true, but Nintendo does not care about storylines. They sacrifice "story depth" for "casual fun".

Compare Metroid 3 to Mass Effect.

Play both and you'll see how much Nintendo cares about storylines. Worst part is, Metroid 3 is the deepest Nintendo storyline there is.

APOLLOCJD

Actually nintendo does care about story lines, TP actually had a well written storyline, masseffects story fails compared to KOTOR.

Each zelda has different characters, but the same ganon, link, zelda becaue of the triforce.

KOTOR and Mass Effect are both made by Bioware, my point still stands.

If Zelda is Nintendo's best storyline, there is a problem.

wind waker had a pretty good storyline.

Especially the back story of hyrule being flooded

What about halo, thats microsofts, is that a problem, or maybe be kameo its first party. Stop being a fanoby, nintendo actually has franchises that are story heavy(baten kaitos), fire emblem, golden sun, advance wars, etc.

Baten Kaitos was not developed by Nintendo it was develop by Namco, As for the other titles they do have good plots. As for Zelda TP story it was just pretty much a rehashed version of a Link to the Past with a few extras.

Don't start getting into semantics. Like I said, you have to have read all the codex in Mass Effect before you can even begin to talk about the stories. Kotor is not better than Mass Effect, and if you would read the codex and understadn the backstory you'd realize this. Just because the story is not shoved down your throat doesn't mean its not there.

Yeah! Remember the parts in Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask in which Link talked to Zelda? If so, could you please point out where, because I must have missed that part.

When Link gets his Ocarina for the first time, doesn't he remember Zelda? (MM)

No it wasnt, TP's story was pretty different, more mature, and more focus on character development. Baten kaitos appears on nintendo systems, im just using it as an example and if I cant use it, then what amazing stories does microsoft have for its first party? Sony?

Very possible, and they also talk about Zelda in Link's Awakening. Doesnt mean the story is the same though. Actually, it means they are entirely different.

whether or not a great storyline is needed really depends on the type of game

RPG's, for example, require engaging storylines

but other genres, like sports games and platformers, never have required great storylines.

thats why you guys look silly when trying to compare Mass Effect and Bioshock storylines to mario galaxy's....they are COMPLETELY different games in different genres

does chess suck now because it doesn't have a great storyline? ah man i can't play poker anymore, its storyline is non existant. NBA 2k8 too, some ol storyline everytime.

people need to get it in their heads that video games are GAMES....just like chess is a game, just like poker is a game.....they are games, not storybooks. games come in all different forms and not all are made to have storylines. for some games, having a serious storyline would be downright ridiculous and corny. this would be the case for a game like mario galaxy.

Thats not Nintendo that is Grasshopper Manufacture they made Killer 7, so the story should be good, and also Intelligent Systems is part of Nintendo and there Stories are great EAD makes Mario and Zelda and EADs strength is Level Design that is were they focus but there games do have a Story you just have to look for it but you can finish the game without even touching the story, Retro Studios also did good with story but there Strength is Atmosphere because Metroid Prime series is very atmoshperic, and Intelligent Systems strength is Story and Characters.

Really great > Great

So by saying there are no great platformers, i thought you implied that there were no other platformers higher than the "great" caliber.

And you just lumped all of Mario's 2D platformers into one....:|
Any gamer knows that nintendo isn't about storylines, they are about gameplaySaintsRowSam

look at no more heroes, thats a story type game....but a horrible one for that matter, i mean come on a kid buys a "beam sword" from ebay??

First off, its not a Nintendo game. Second, someone buying a lightsaber from ebay to become the greatest assassin in the world... Thats just plain awesome.

Vandalvideo

Actually nintendo does care about story lines, TP actually had a well written storyline, masseffects story fails compared to KOTOR.

Each zelda has different characters, but the same ganon, link, zelda becaue of the triforce.

Disagree about Mass Effect. It was an entirely new universe with tons of backstory. You strike me as the type of person who would say that WoW has very little to no storyline. Just because its not shoved down your throat like a sunday morning cartoon doesn't mean its not there.

ugh Mass Effect is unoriginal. At least it's one of the best told stories in a video game, ever. If not that would have been pretty bloody uninteresting.

Ok whoever said zelda is mainly about saving the princess is wrong. Zelda does not always have the same story heck all of the zeldas from 1998 don't emphasize on zelda. With the exception of tmc.

Why do people these days seem to care more about the story than the actual gameplay? If a game had all kinds of framerate issues, bugs, glitches, and horrific gameplay, got a 2.5 on Gamespot, but had the best story ever, would it be a good game because of the story? No...

Because of the Triforce. Do people actually think Link is the same person in every Zelda game? :|

have you ever noticed how mario and zelda's stories are always the same?

Mario- mario and peach are having a good time, then peach gets captured by Bowser

Zelda- Link and zelda are hanging out then zelda is captured by gannendorf (sp?)

generally its the same but just with different twists to cover it up.

SaintsRowSam

Mario isn't meant to have story, so that shoots down your Mario thing. Second, not all Zelda games have the same story. I don't remember that many times Link and Zelda were hanging out. Ever since LTTP, Zelda's been fairing well on her own. She didn't get captured until late in OoT, then only in the middle of WW. Phantom Hourglass has her captured from the beginning, but doesn't end when she's rescued. And quite a few Zelda games don't have Zelda at all. Oh, and just for the hell of it: Zelda's not captured in Zelda II.

Just asking a question here, possible spoilers for Twilight Princess
Do you ever have to save Zelda from anyone in TP? I remember meeting her at the beginning, and don't remember ever having to help her, nor do I remember her ever being kidnapped. Though, one of Link's village buddies was. I remember that much.
Plenty of video games have that same story if you're going to generalize it like that. MC saves the universe. GeoW marines save earth. Link saves princess/world/ect. Resistance you're saving the world. MGS youre saving ehh humanity? ect. ect. ect. I'm not too sure if you're saving something in mass effect though someone tell me.. Everyone knows there are major differences in all the stories though so why don't you complain about games in general :|.
Why do you care? Better gameplay than almost any other games out there.Vandalvideo
Because games should be more than whimsical nonsense?

Why?
