Ever occurred to you that MAYBE... just MAYBE... you are an isolated incident?

Clearly, if there was as much input lag as you say, people wouldn't even consider playing fighters on PSN. Yet there's millions that do on a regular basis.

mmmwksil

I have fighting game tourneys and everyone thinks psn has more input lag so i am not isolated.

When did this shift to a conversation of XBL is better because there's no input lag? I thought you were trying to convince me that XBL is a better service, and thus the reason why you must pay for it.

I'm still waiting for an answer on that front, sir.

OK, Xbox live has the following feature which make it better, they are: Cross Game Chat 8 People chat at same thing Faster download speeds No joining in session in progress Its hard to invite people on some games You cant invite people unless they are on your friend list. Deal of the week, weekly dlc offers like PS+ Better arcade games, game like Bastion, From dust. Earlier dlc content, earlier COD map pack, fallout content More input lag in fighting games, I can name more, but is that list enough?

Half your list are bells & whistles that contribute nothing, absolutely NOTHING to the act of me connecting to another person across the country or world to play a video game online.

The other half relates to the store feature which has ZERO impact on the act of playing video games with someone else.

Care to try again?

Despite popular belief, not everyone owns all 3 consoles. Not even all the people that post on gaming websites like you guys own all 3 consoles. As a matter of fact, most people out there choose 1 console per generation and roll with that. Many people out there have chosen the Xbox 360 as their console for this generation. If they want to play online, which many people do, they're literally forced to pay for it. People like me who own all systems, Wii, PS3, 360 and PC, have more options. I don't pay for Live, and I online game on my Wii, PS3 and PC.

Isn't live about $4 / mo? ($50/12). How are you not able to afford $4 per month when you can go out and buy a $50 game? In other words, youre saying you can't afford Live FOR A YEAR yet you can buy games that cost just as much? Err... what?

theking52_TDK

I probably pay $5-10 a game. And just because it's "cheap", does it really matter? You're getting ripped off, pc has superior online and is free.

Anyways Microsoft charges that much because a lot of people pay for it. Don't really know why, I mean if they have had it since the 360 came out, they've payed what like $200+ for something that is worse than something that's free.

I consider Xbox Live a superior service to PSN and am willing to pay for it. I've been paying for it since the original Xbox.

Don't pay for it if you don't want it. It's that simple.

How come PC is completely ignored in all of your arguments? It is better than the 360 at everything you said there (excluding the timed exclusives), and is free.

None of those impact my actual ability to enjoy Soul Calibur more on either console. Fallout content? Ohh snaps, thats why Microsoft charges you so much for online to begin with for online play because they are too busy paying millions out for exlusive content for only has an effect for a few months before the other systems get it lol.

Its obvious why MS charges. cuz they want to suck every drop of money out of your bank accounts. Dont worry boys good old PS3 is here to save the day obviously they provide free service cuz they dont want all that revenue ( that would make them look greedy ),how do we know this ? it;'s quite simple Sony is a philanthropic organization .

The customers allow Microsoft to charge them and continue to pay for it.

It's a ripoff.

TC i agree with you completely.

if half of the people here actually read what you wrote, they wouldn't be saying this stuff to defend it.

its qutie simple logic actually.

PSN+ and regular PSN is great for the core user and the average user.

whereas,

Xbox LIVE is mandatory even for both types of users.

Basically, its a ripoff to pay to play online especially when we pay for our internet.
'
What if i only want to playBC2 online and not use the other features. well i CANT because i would have to pay for the live.

For the idiots who keep posting "gaming isn't cheap, or get another hobby, or you can't afford to pay, etc , etc" . You guys sound so rediculous. Tc is asking a simple question as to why MS is getting away with this while the 3 other platforms are giving online playing as free.

My answer? Well its pretty much clear, theres people out there (such as in this thread) who believe it's okay to do so.

Now before I provide my answer I want to make perfectly clear here that I am NOT bashing 360 or xbox live it'self. It's a good service, now with that out of the way...

MS charges because people are willing to pay for it. That's it. MS doesn't have any real reason to charge people to play online, there isn't really. Your just playing over your own internet and all MS is doing is taking that MP feature and locking it out unless you pay. As long as people keep paying for it then MS is going to keep charging, I'm curious as to what is going to happen next gen though, it would be interesting to see if MS is going to keep charging for online MP or make it free, it all depends on the consumers and the competition.

This isn't to say that Xbox Live is a bad service or anything like that. It has some great features (I don't care for those featues, but others do) that alot of people enjoy. And these features arn't on PSN (party chat, faster updates ect..) so for some people these features are worth it. For others like myself it isn't and PSN is "better" for me. There is no "wrong" answer as to the whole xbox live vs psn debate, it's all just a prefrence.

Not an opinion, it's a fact that's accepted by the majority of gamers and gaming media if that hurts your personal feelings.. too bad.

PSN - True_Elite_Gamer

XBL - AnxietyAttack

How has been accepted by the majority of gamers and gaming media?

More ps3's have been sold than 360s since the ps3 launched.

Online games are not scored lower on ps3.

There are more psn users than Live users.

If they do oh well. I won't be paying for it. I mostly only play single player exclusives on my PS3 as it is. I could live without Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet online.

Uhh...no.. it is not a "fact" it is an opinion dude... Just saying something is a "fact" doesn't make it true. I think xbox live is a good service and has some features that some people enjoy. But what if I don't care about any of those features? How does xbox live give me value? For some people it does, but for me it doesn't.

And my "feelings" weren't hurt lol. It's just about video games man, why would that offend me? I think your the one being a little sensitive here, don't ya think? And even if xbox live was accepted to be better by the majority (it isn't) how would that make my OPINION invalid?

Oh and btw I switched from xbox live to psn, so I have used both aswell and know what I am talking about. It's just an OPINION! No one here is "wrong" about what service they like more. But pushing an opinion on someone else and telling them they are wrong for disagreeing is wrong.

Even if what you are saying is true (about the "majority" of gamers and gaming media), then it would still just be a widely accepted opinion, not a fact.

Personal feelings??? You're the one who sounds like you are making this personal. After all you did post your PSN ID and Live gamertag.

Xbox live has for more features than PSN, Xbox live is far better. If PSN was truly better because its free., no one would actually be paying for xbox live right now.

The online as the ability to play your game online not including the features outside of the game. Yes but it's those features i shouldnt have to pay for when all i want to do is play the game online. Not use facebook, netflix, twitter. DLC, movies, demos, video walkthroughs, avatars, and all that other pointless stuff when all i want is to play Soul Calibur online. Why should i pay 15$ a month for one game to play it online. I'm tight on cash right now. So i can't get the full experience of my console. Yet with PS3 i can.

In PSN, you get alot of input lag in games like SSF4, you cant join session progress, you cant invite people unless they're on your friend list, psn has very slow download speed. I can go on but as you're not interested in other features as you said. PSN is way inferior.

Srsly, I hate downloading anything on my ps3, slow as hell.

PSN doesn't "lag" anymore than xbox live (or vice versa). People who talk about lagging more in one service or another are talking out their ass....lag depends solely on your own internet connection and the host's internet connection. Game netcode also plays a role (Gears 2 ring a bell). I always lol when people talk about "lag" when it comes to xbox live vs psn, it's pretty clear that alot of people have NO idea what they are talking about.

As for downloads go, my PSN updates are slower yes, but my downloads for demo's and games and that stuff are perfectly fine. There is a different between updates and downloads.

I'm sure there are quite a few of those, but the reality is that they've sold roughly the same amount of systems and the online on ps3 is free. It's just the way it is, so of course more people are going to be playing online if you don't have to pay for it.

I know the only reason I decided to try online gaming was because it was so easy to give it a shot on my launch ps3.

As for your download speeds, I suggest doing some port forwarding, or DMZ'ing your system.

[QUOTE="xX0LDSCH00LXx"]Not an opinion, it's a fact that's accepted by the majority of gamers and gaming media if that hurts your personal feelings.. too bad.

PSN - True_Elite_Gamer

XBL - AnxietyAttack

xsatyr86

How has been accepted by the majority of gamers and gaming media?

More ps3's have been sold than 360s since the ps3 launched.

Online games are not scored lower on ps3.

There are more psn users than Live users.

More psn users? You mean more psn accounts bc you can create more than one for free??? I don't agree with the price for xbox live but I am willing to pay for it bc psn sucks. Updates take forever and I don't have the patience to wait for downloads on psn. I also prefer the social aspects of live, most people have mics and are willing to talk. I only have a few friends on psn and nvr actually play with them.

I don't know if PSN or Live has more users or not, and I don't think anyone really does either. All I cans say is from personal experience with most games is that they seem to have around the same amountof players online. And you thinking PSN sucks is an opinion dude, I don't agree with it (I don't think either service sucks) but that's not a fact. PSN udpates do bother me a little bit, practically the only thing I miss about Live, but I can live without it. Thankfully most updates are only about 10 minutes... some are painfully slow though.

I am actually the opposite when it comes to the mic thing, I find the slightly more quiet aspect of PSN to be more enjoyable as I don't have to liste to a bunch of 5 year olds tell reacist jokes. I don't have to mute everyone in every session I go to, there are alot of idiots on PSN too but not as many making annoying rap music over their headsets lol.

A better question is why do Live users put up with the payments. Its up to the consumers to decide the value of a product, and for some reason they've decided that Live is worth it.meetroid8
because they/we have no choice. i think this is a pretty simple question with a very easy answer. its not a PC where its an open platform its the xbox....MS's wholly owned system which they control what goes in and comes out. if people choose not to pay they have no other options. not that hard to figure out....

You can't just make assumptions as if they are fact. I can say that many people bought ps3 as a bluray player so even though hardware sales are almost even, there are not the same amount of gamers. See what I did there? I know based on my experiences and those of my friends, it is much easier to join games on 360. Is it worth the price tag, not really but I pay anyways.

I had an xbox 360 first this gen (I got one the month after launch) 20GB model. My first game was Perfect Dark Zero (which turned out to be so-so) and I got COD 2 later (AWESOME GAME). Later on after beating the SP modes a bunch of time I ofcourse wanted to play onine, but I found out that I would have to pay in order to go online with it. I was angry but I sucked it up and for my birthday (I was in highschool at this time) I asked for a Gold subscription for one year instead of a game, I didn't want to do it but I sorta had to and I figured I would get a new game when Hanuckha/Christmas came around.

However then I realised that I would have to get a wifi adapter which at the time was 100$! I couldn't believe it but nonetheless I spent all my hard earned money that I earned over the summer from working to get it. Finally I had xbox live! And it was worth it, at first anyway. Over time I bought more games and kept renewing my xbox live account every birthday until eventually I got a PS3 (I was an adult living on my own at this point).

I was skeptical about PSN, I always bashed it in the past and called it "laggy" and that stuff. But after I played on it I was amazed! It was the SAME thing as xbox live (well aside from a few features) the only thing that bothered me about it was the slower updates, but I could live with that. Soon after my 360 got RROD and it was out of warrenty so I just said "screw it", I rebought the multiplats I wanted to for PS3 and never looked back.

This isn't to say I'm bashing Live or 360 or anything like that. I understand for some people the features of Xbox live are worth paying for, and that's fine because it's their choice. But for me I didn't care or ever really use any of those xbox live features so it wasn't worth it to me. And it's a shame because I spent ALL that money on xbox live!

But with my PS3 I get a Blu Ray player, access to a great and free online network, and alot of exclusives that I had more fun with than I ever did with Halo or Gears ect.. I got more for my money with PS3. But I don't go around bashing other systems or anything, I only have a problem when someone says xbox live or psn is "trash" or one service "destroys" the other. That's simply not true. Same goes for the systems, it's all just a prefrence.

Bottom line: both services are good and neither one is "inferior" to the other. It all comes down to perspective and prefences.

Online play is free on the PC? Hmmm, that must be why I see so many server admins asking for donations, or why many online games have subscription plans.

Only stupid mmo's charge a fee, the others do not. And I have never seen any server admin ask for donations, where are you getting this? Have you ever played on Steam?

Plenty of server admins ask for donations on Steam. Still, it's much better to have the option of running dedicated servers because it improves the game.

That's probably the most ridiculous thing about Live's fee, the p2p gaming that it comes with and there's no way to improve it.

That is not an assumption; I have more than one account. Most of my friends have more than one account. People do this bc they don't want friends and family members messing up their stats online. My mom has a ps3 and created an account for both of my nephews, all that adds up when you think about the 50 million users. Not to mention the people who create new accounts in different countries, even though they don't live there, so they can download something restricted to a region.

Uh a lot of servers ask for donations. You're pretty unobservant if you haven't seen them doing so.

Your assumption is that people having more than one account is the reason there are more psn users. Your mom created accounts for your two nephews? Those are two individual players, even if they don't play frequently.

Stupid MMOs? Like Eve, and WoW? Hmmm, most people would consider those to be the best MMOs gaming has to offer. And you do know dedicated servers on the PC are run by players themselves right? And it's not cheap to maintain them. They ALWAYS ask for donations. You think Valve is paying for the thousands of servers all the games on Steam use, and that they just let random players become admins of them for no reason?
