[QUOTE="sky_rend"] Isn't that something you factor in when you're buying a console/PC? Guess why I went with a PC instead.gamer-adam1

Yeah exactly.

what no its not, not at all, PC is NOT in compentition with Consoles, that only happens on System wars.

No what i meant was that the XBL fee is something everyone should factor in when they buy a 360. If you buy a 360, and then complain about live fees then its your own fault, you should have bought an alternative. Because the PC isnt the only free alternative this gen, theres the PS3/Wii as well. I suspect next gen though that the PC will be the only free option.

Because a lot of 360 owners think p2p gaming is something they should pay for.

if you only play RTS onling, than your most liking playing P2P, there are dedicated servers on Xbox Live, and its a service, that needs funding, no company can survive on ADS alone

I wish poll results were public, so I could laugh at those who chose option 2. I mean really...

The poll got glitched yesterday so I made a new one. Is XBL $50 (soon to be $60) material or just a way for MS to cash in.

because its a greedy corporation like most are.

I don't know why you quoted me. If you only played RTS online, why would you even be on a 360, rather than a PC?

I few games have dedicated servers on Live, but almost all the "better" games use P2P. The costs they incur from running Live are most likely eclipsed by what they make off ads, and that's not even factoring in the store. Also, it's not like the fee gets rid of the ads, you are paying for p2p, ad riddled gaming.

Calling something a service does not, in fact, make it so.

matchmaking servers and master servers are like... um... the cheapest of the cheapest expenses the company would make, negligible to be honest.

That's about the only dedicated servers.

The rest are mostly, except in some very rare cases, player hosted matches. Essentially, nothing.

I dont' know why they charge. But I do know why I pay.

I place a premium on the party system with its chat and cross-game invites. I also like that their community staff is very visible and interact directly with the community. Their responses to the MW2 Javelin glitch and The Pro incident are prime examples. Action was immediate and transparent right from the top. The most we got from PSN about the Javelin glitch was a one-liner from an anonymous rep that they don't plan on doing anything.

I like going to an Xbox Ambassador to point me in the right direction. I like that they place a priority on family issues addressed with their PlaySmart campaign. Or the concerns of special interest groups whom they work with to help form policy. I appreciate that my wife has a safe place to go with the GamerChix. It's cool that their Community Developer program helps fan sites create and maintain their web widgets.

A also enjoy their community events, especially their Community Playdate. I've fleshed out my friends list based on those sessions.

These are the things I value with Xbox Live and find it a little surprising that the price hasn't changed for 8 years. I use many of these features on a daily basis, so the slight subscrption fee increase isn't suddenly unreasonable. It's just unfortunate that they're aspects that don't get enough attention.

I'm not going to pretend that these are universal truths that everyone needs to agree with. The reasons are my own, so take them as you will.

Relatively unrelated, but I mentioned in another thread iPlayer. MS should offer it on a free basis for silver members (they have to I believe), but if they want to charge for it then they should get BBC to agree to downloads or recording. That would be amazing.

Edit: Wait, it's late - BBC already offer downloading :P

But for the purpose of this thread - I voted because people will pay for it.

I don't play on a PC, but I know that p2p gaming is fail. That's just the way it is, it sucks. Who cares what else there is when the gameplay sucks online?

Because they know people will eat it up and pay.Arach666

This exactly.

Its not as if people are going to protest in the streets and riot. They know that people will need it for whatever reason. Corporations have been screwing over people since the dawn of time, this is nothing new.
