Nobody is using it.

Nobody is talking about getting it.

The games all lag and have input lag when you move its 1-2 second delays crucial for fighters shooters platformers all games need 1:1 input no delay.

Shut the thing down its not going to be good anytime in the distant future.

They took it off TV's and places already its a failure let google or microsoft or nvidia stream and fail too theres no reason for sony to keep this crap up its just a drain and its not future proof at all THE LAG WILL ALWAYS BE THERE and the lag gets worse if internet is going slow or down or if your playing an online game thats so much connection bouncing off each other it won't ever work.

Shut the thing down already let another company fail at it no reason to keep it up.

Imagine playing a MOBA or a PUBG with the delay unfucking playable for competitive games and thats with the best internet in the WORLD right now. Internet is pretty much peaked theres no better internet on the way to fix this.

In fact Internet speeds might get slower and capped the more bandwidth you use. The internet could probably be pay per how much internet you use like in China which would kill streaming/downloading games. So don't even think of not using a disc drive if you want to be future proof. Streaming games is on the way out like onlive its done Just close that department. Streaming can only be done for movies and music since there is no physical buttons for inputing precise commands its all just click a song and wait for the buffering same with a movie or video. Game streaming can't be done so just stop it theirs way too much going on in a game. Let netflix try it and fail too it just cannot ever be done ever imo unless its exactly 1:1 even a slither of lag is too much for any game.

I've had internet companies slow down and cap me for using too much bandwidth in a short period of time how the hell is that gonna get better its just not games should stay on discs and be put in consoles to avoid downloads and of course streaming.

This thread is stupid. Sony is testing the waters with its streaming service, doing some r&d probably using that system in the future for when games go full digital.

Also, according to recent financials, PS NOW brought $50 million in revenues for Sony in 2017. So it's still making some money.

It’s complete trash. I’m sure Sony makes some money off it but for the most part I think it’s a flop. It’s like they want it to be there so that that they’ll have something when streaming games finally becomes a thing.

Because PS4 can't do PS3 BC... not sure why they require streaming for everything else.

This. Sony is making more money than they would having the ps4 backwards compatible, so it's a win win for them. Plus some neat r&d and it's a simple business venture.

Good streaming services coupled with good internet don't produce noticeable input lag.

but who is paying for it like are we sure its making money? Only some hardcore guy with insane internet who wants to play PS3 games would buy it and they probably don't want to use it for more than a month playing those games.

I don't see it as having made any money yet for all the money they put into it i bet its just lost money just like hulu lost a billion dollars or something and thats probably way bigger than ps NOW and Hulu sucks.

First of all, it worked remarkably well when I tried it. Second of all, the library us quite huge now. Third if all, what's the evidence nobody is using it?

I think this is the future if gaming (unfortunately), and I think Sony (and MS and Nvidia and others) are trying to get out on top of that and establish themselves a s key players.

I don't like it, you don't like it, but I'm not sure it's a s dumb for Sony as you make it it seem

@ProtossRushX: Well tough to know how much money they made exactly but considering Sony’s gaming division is highly profitable and the PS Store is mostly responsible for that I think it’s safe to assume they are making money from it.

Also there are a lot of people that missed out on the PS3 last gen that own a PS4 now and will wanna check out what they missed out on. Sony is making money from them.

nope I saw a youtuber with really good internet speed recently play on PS Now and showed everyone the lag so how could work remarkably for you and the guy is now canceling the service since he had lag with it and purchasing physical ps3 games.

good point maybe there storefront is doing wonders and people are just subscribing since they are doing good advertising for it and suckering in people with the storefront ive seen it a lot browsing the ps4 store ps nOW try it now etc. They make it easy to sub and jump into it I guess but I just can't see people staying subbed like a person is for netflix or hbo all year round.

@ProtossRushX: what do you mean "nope". I've actually used it - I don't care if some random YouTuber had trouble, it doesn't negate my own experience with it. If I put my experience on YouTube it would be special?

His negative experience does highlight the real issue here: that server load, local network issues, isp issues, etc, can ruin your experience. This is why streaming gaming won't become mainstream for a long long time - the infrastructure isn't there yet. But Sony and MS and others know this is where it's going and they want to devlopr and tine the tech now as well as solidify their name as a player in that field

PS Now was a stupid idea from the start. Most of the world still has crappy internet. In a couple years from now, PS Now will be either scrapped or redesigned.

@ProtossRushX: Yea Sony’s storefront is pretty damn amazing this gen. They’ve come very far since their PS3 days. I’m not surprised they make the most money from it. They pretty much have games and services for every need. From TV to movies to games, they pretty much cover every area. I have no interest in streaming games and it’s why I keep all my old consoles but I can see how some people will find PS Now worthwhile.

I don’t think the tech is ready and I’m sure Sony knows this as well. They just want to get ahead of the game and have something in place for the future since they believe the future of gaming is heading in that direction.

Exactly this. They spent a decent amount of money at the time to acquire a cloud gaming services company. To shut down PS Now would be admitting its failure, resulting in a subsequent write-down of Gaikai's worth. The issue with streaming games is the damn input lag. I used the PS Now trial for Uncharted 1 & 2. It was playable, but not very enjoyable. I couldn't imagine trying to play a competitive FPS or anything truly input sensitive through game streaming.

This. Sony is making more money than they would having the ps4 backwards compatible, so it's a win win for them. Plus some neat r&d and it's a simple business venture.

From a gaming perspective, I wish they'd of gone a different route. While I don't argue it's not profitable, I think they're letting a potential goldmine of content slip through their fingers in other areas.

Quite a few of the PS3 exclusives that I'd want to play is being covered in what they're offering in remaster / re-releases for PS4, and on the third party end of things too.

What really bugs me more though (and I feel is a big potential revenue generator going to waste) is the progress Sony made on the digital side of things building a great library of PS1/PS2 classics for PS3 that are essentially PS1/PS2 ISOs running on an emulator. Given they have working emulation on PS4 for both PS1 and PS2, I wish they'd of tried honoring digital rights tied people's PSN accounts to make those same games available on PS4. Sure it might not have been so simple and not everything can roll out at the flip of a switch, but I wish they'd of made an effort to catch up on PS4 end, probably negotiate with publishers to offer this and stagger the release of owned titles out the same way Microsoft has been doing for Xbox 360 BC titles. At very least, monetize the way Nintendo did between Wii and Wii U by making people pay a nominal upgrade fee one each game. Instead they're starting from scratch and it bugs me they used the excuse of emulation enhancements and trophies to up the price of games substantially, and they have to start over again from scratch re-introducing titles the PS4 side of things. But I don't put all the blame on Sony for this, sure their success this gen did a lot to not put any pressure on them to push for higher standards on their end regarding this aspect of their console, but the free pass they got from gamers who treat them as infallible, plus the constant minimizing the progress Microsoft has made putting a lot of great effort into expanding BC on their end, it's created a big missed opportunity on Sony's end, and to gaming consumers at large.

Worse yet, is I feel people are less aware of what this does for confidence of gamers in digital services when it comes to right retention of digital content. Having feel burned somewhat by Sony over the generational transition makes me far more reluctant to purchase digital content on Sony systems, for me at least, that's even just ignoring problems with Sony in securing people's payment data or how they treat their users when their accounts are hacked and charges made against their CC. Same thing for Nintendo for that matter, but they haven't really rolled out BC yet so we'll see what they do for rights for people who bought content on Wii U and tied them to their Switch, so I'm waiting to see what happens there. But it would have been great if at least Sony pushed to be equal with Microsoft on BC as much as possible to help reinforce better standards for digital right retention and backwards compatibility across consoles to make it a more inform standard across the industry.

Sure, there's probably a place for streaming gaming and for Sony to use it to broaden its range of services, but to be so relied upon for BC, and to strong arm people to the service, at the expense of negating people's digital rights, just rubs me the wrong way.

One of my favorite streamers is using it for the God of War series right now. Robinoyo. He has good internet and says it's fine. I personally don't need it , but I'm glad people can enjoy God of War , inFAMOUS , Killzone , Ratchet & Clank , etc. It's basically a chance to get caught up with what you missed conveniently.

There's no doubt I would've tried it if I ws a PlayStation noob , or if I missed some critical games.

It's a video game streaming service. Just the very nature of that is bad and I want to see it fail horribly because I would hate to see that become the standard way of playing video games in the future.

BTW streaming services will always suck balls because of latency/lag/Internet. Anyone who says otherwise is just fooling themselves. These types of services all need to DIAF.

I have 100Mbps internet and my experience with PSNow and GeForce Now has been relatively poor. With ethernet and "performance" settings you can have a playable experience in something mashy like AC or GoW, but the feed looks like shit. FPS is like aiming with a keyboard...when you're drunk.

What's weird is that neither of these services seem to be any better than OnLive from 5-6yrs. ago. PSNow is basically OnLive. Guess Sony was lazy and didn't improve anything.

@ProtossRushX: It apparently is doing ok or it would have been scrapped. I'm sure they have something up their sleeve. As far as streaming goes, they should use a larger buffer(which they now can in just PS4 and PC), I used it when it first came out and didn't notice any lag in controls. If there is some, it'd really only matter in certain games which can be left off there. Or they could do what Netflix is doing and allow certain games to be downloaded(MS is doing it now too but for all games). There's games I'd prefer to stream as a way to try them out without having to download them. And if I like them, then I download them. Sony has PS Vue working perfectly, so I think they can get this working as well. And if all else fails, lower the price or add it into the ps plus subscription for an extra few dollars per month.

@ProtossRushX: "In fact Internet speeds might get slower and capped the more bandwidth you use."

Why would MS be getting into this service as well then? Or just about any other company out there?(Amazon video, HBO Now, Hulu, Netflix, Sports apps like NHL.tv... those are just a few I use. Streaming is not going anywhere. It's the future. Data caps will eventually have to be removed. Remember mobile phone days? Nearly everyone(company) has an unlimited plan now and soon it will be the standard plan(basically already is)).

@storm_of_swords: That's a legit question that should be answered by Sony. If you own the disc or digital, and the game is on ps now, you should be able to stream it for free. The disc and your account can verify you own the game. Just like name changes for PSN, Sony needs to give some answers about this stuff.

Sony prefer to offer new genre defining AAA experiences rather than focus on nostalgia.

They sometimes allow the occasional remaster, but like everything Sony does the remasters are the best in the business, offering value.

LOLOL best in the business by charging you for games you probably already own. Sorry cow but you may like being milked but I prefer to play the games I already own if I say choose.

Meh, I subscribed for 2 months to check out a few games I didn’t want to buy. The input lag wasn’t any worse than in home streaming with steam.

Just wait until fiber internet hits critical mass. This will be the future eventually.

Because the god damn PS4 cant even play a PS1 game! How the hell can you put Xbox and Xbox 360 DVDs in a X1 and play them? Well its still work in progress but there are hundreds of supported games so far. While the PS4 cant run any PS1 PS2 or PS3 games. NONE.

I hope PSnow dies. Give us PS5 with backwards comp at least! Greedy SONY!

Just wait until fiber internet hits critical mass. This will be the future eventually.

This is my fear and why I want services like this to fail hard. The day that streaming is my only option to play new video games, is the day that I stop playing new video games and just focus on playing games on all of my old consoles that existed before streaming took over.

@storm_of_swords: Nah, it will be quite a long time before it’s the only option. But I can definitely see the PS6 generation offering up nearly the entire current library as a streaming service, with the option to purchase individual games instead.

Image quality and texture resolution in games is getting to the point where it can’t improve much more, so we’ll begin to see games that run on local hardware, but asset data is downloaded on demand. Basically replacing the internal storage with cloud storage. Hell, fiber internet is already capable of loading data at the speed of some mechanical hard drives.

I felt it was a scam right from the start. Would rather hook up my PS3 and PS2 than experience lag on a streaming service.
