I thought streaming was the future because of Netflix... at least people kept telling me that

It's worked flawlessly in my experience, very smooth connection and no lag. Still, not a product for me -- but the thing works very well.
First thing, I am not sure why people put PS3 or PS2 games into discussion? It is extra feature for those who such a badly need it, for the majority probably irrelevant. If we talk about streaming of PS4 games, that is something that should work in the first place. I have 200/20 Mbit connection and have played god of wars without a lag. Need to test other other games though.
Some thoughts on PS now:
- Someone write about 540p (or whatsoever). I am not sure how good the graphic quality is (streaming), because mostly I have nothing to compare locally with (i.e. same game as a purchase). If I cant have 1080p ( i have 4K TV), its nothing for me. Period. You can put PS4 4K user on top of it, and they probably expect 4K streaming (having decent internet connection is without discussion)
- if you play casually it is probably to expensive. on the other side most people cannot play 10 games at a time (taking into account, that you actually play the game for some hours), so cant really say if there is actual benefit from a subscription. On the other side you can always cancel it (if you pay monthly), therefore it is not quite a killer.
- let say for 100$ a year I could give it a try on a longer term.
Regarding the streaming as a service, I could imagine hybrid solutions (partial streaming / background chunk download / partial download in standby) in the future, that could reduce the lag and give the user better performance / experience. Having the option not to download 80Gig to play the game for 10 mins, it is a nice thing in my eyes. Why it must be either streaming of download? Why not both?
Generally it is not a bad idea, but as in most cases probably badly implemented at the moment:)
I think PSNow still exists because lots of people are using it and it's awesome to have so many games available to stream.
With a good internet connection, there's no lag. When it does (rarely) happen, it's hardly noticeable.
You say "nobody is using it, nobody is talking about it", which is odd. Because I'm playing it right now (it's paused), while commenting on the thread you created specifically to talk about it.
Just remember: Opinion =/= fact. That'll get you through a lot in life.
If your internet provider is giving you problems, get a different one. One with unlimited bandwidth.
I haven't played a game on disk in months. I never download games either. Since I got PSNow months ago, I've just been playing that. Most of the people on my friends list have it as well, so we often play a lot of multiplayer games.
Some people are scared of change, I suppose. Disks aren't going anywhere for now, and PSNow is just another optional (re: OPTIONAL) way to play tons of games you don't want to spend a fortune buying.
I'm glad to have it and be able to play many, many games. Especially since they sync trophies and some even have the DLC. It's awesome.
I'm sorry you dislike completely optional features (that you aren't forced to use and never have to touch) to the point of starting a thread throwing around misguided "facts" and confusing your opinions for the general consensus.
Don't worry it will be shut off at the end of this gen & when the PS5 arrives so will PS NOW version 2 which will add PS4 games lol.
Hopefully that happens as it would be a glorious month here on SW.
I for one love game streaming. I use my nvidia sheildtv all the time or geforce now and stream from nvidia's servers. I get a better experience streaming from their servers than if I stream from my pc to my shield.
I beat Assassin's Creed Odyssey for free because of Google's Project Stream. I found project stream to be pretty rock solid.
Game streaming is really dependent on the overal quality of you internet connection, not just download speed. My speed test are always slightly over 200mbs down, 25mbs up, and ping is always less than 10ms.
I would like to try PSnow again because it's been years since I tried it and at the time I had 50mbs down and 5mbs up and the experience left a lot to be desired. With my current connection, I wouldnt see why the experience would be comparable to nvidia's geforce now or Google's project stream.
