Why does PSN seem to have a more mature community that Live?

This is something that I noticed back when I got my PS3 and started playing on PSN. I had Live for about 3 years (still have it for about 6 more months) and I noticed that the age range is VASTLY different!

Whenever I play on Live I always get into session FULL of potty-mouth 10-12 year old kids who should either be in school or in bed at that time of night (or for that matter off the game completely as it's rated M)

I go on PSN and I get into sessions where I don't hear as much swearing and the people are mostly seem to be adults. People simply seem to be more respectful and are more friendly.

This isn't to say that I never have nice adultpeople on Live or to say that I never have jerks on PSN. It's just that the frequency of each has made me notice that PSN has more respectful adults on it and less kids than Live.

To be fair however, only about half the people in a session on PSN have mics while on Live everyone does.

So a game of16 people on PSN only about 8 people will be talking while on Live just about everyoe will be talking.

Because all the kids of PSN are on SW.

I have no trouble finding mature players on Live. Both have bad apples, but it's impossible to determine which has more.

Because the average age of PS3 players are higher than on the 360, so your likely to run into less racial arguments and just all around stupidity.

Honestly depends what time I go on (for XBL). During the afternoon/early evening here in the UK, I hear lots school kids screaming down the microphone...but then towards 10-11pm I hear a lot of mature gamers chatting normally. I haven't really experienced PSN apart from at a friends...and I've heard the exact same.Ravensmash

I guess that makes sense, I tend to play my games during the afternoon after I get home from work and I play on until about 11:00-11:30. I only have time to play during the middle of the day when I have the day off or something.

But I still notice quite a big difference for example when I go on Live at just about anytime I always hear racial swearing from little kids! While when I go on PSN I notice alot less of them,this isn't to say that there arn't any annoying kids on PSN (there are), I jsut notice that there tends to be less.

Because all the kids of PSN are on SW.

it might be that its cause ps3's dont come with mics and only older ppl want to have a mic

It's because the 360 comes with a mic (but really there's barely any bad kids and there's a mute button for a reason) :P

not true, they both have their fair share. i seem to find a lot more wannabe thugs on psn though, like just the other day i'm playing KZ2 online and some lame decides it would be cool to play the entire lil wayne catalogue over his mic. i went to another room and someone's playing gucci mane. seriously, what's the deal with playing **** music over the mic? sadly, i don't have a mic for my ps3 so i couldn't properly tell them to shut the hell up...

I used to bump into the usual annoying 13 old wanna be thug but i havent had that problem as often in the last few months...I guess it depends what kind of games you play...in my case Saints Row 2 was a nightmare with those wanna be thugs/rappers. In PSN i have found older guys but still jerks either way...for example in MAG they won't stop talking crap to those who just started playing the game and apparently are not at their level...and i have seen the usual teenager bragging about his rank.

Both communities have their annoying kids and "grown ups"....that's when the party chaton LIVEcomes in handy.

gt5 online seems to have a better community than forza, thats about the only game I play online though

you answered your own question in the second to last sentence.

the PS3's aren't pre-packaged with mics, the only people that actually take the time to go out and buy them are the more serious less kiddy gamers.

the 360 on the other, is mic galore, if some kid wants some attention, he' can simply plug the mic in and call you the n word etc.

Judging the maturity of an online community playing a game seems like a serious problem to me. They are all not very mature but then again, I must admit, I don;'t strive for maturity when I'm playing a game.

360 is only for Middle Schoolers or little kids who want to cuss and act grown up. 360 is the ultimate Kiddie Console. More Adults play PS3 and Wii than 360Nuck81
