@PannicAtack
I didn't play Castlevania long enough, as for Shadow Complex.... I didn't like it.... Needed more co-op.
If a Nintendo game is under the eye of Miyamoto it will never happen. He's a gardener, not a gore or grief seeker.
Also, to ask why Nintendo themselves aren't making games like TLOU or anything more high-minded and intellectually challenging would suggest they even could make something that impressively deep. I honestly doubt that they can (their most "serious" writing is the Zelda series - 'nuff said), and they haven't invested one bit into the latest motion-capture facial techniques like Naughty Dog, EA or Ubisoft have for their AAA games (remember, Nintendo is just figuring out how to do HD guys).
On one hand you can't blame them - Nintendo games with Mario, Princess and Toad never required any of that technology. Nintendo (just like most studios) are glued to what they know and what works. However, this still doesn't mean the TC's question isn't worth asking, because you see astonishing literary and cinematic departures all the time in works of respected authors and auteurs. A certain stretching, versatility and clear arc of "artistic growth" in their body of work actually earns more admiration (such as Naughty Dog). A creator's abandonment of old, familiar subjects can sometimes be an exhilarating mark of maturity in itself.
But this won't happen at Nintendo EAD. Either Nintendo doesn't have the necessary story/writing staff to really go to those unexplored places, or they are locked in to a safer, commercial zone of production (as I said, understandable given that's what most studios do all the time).
And I don't think the TC is asking for non-stop gore or mindless gameplay just so that Nintendo could mark a box off of their To-Do checklist. He is probably asking for a good, excellently-written Mature game without the shallow excesses we could get from countless other games. That's harder to achieve for any studio and I assume the TC is asking this question because he feels that Nintendo should be different from the pack and already starting from a higher mode of production.
Oh, I'm sure many studios and Nintendo secretly want that wonderful, brilliantly-lit adoration of the media and industry (*smooch smooch*) for delivering a beautiful 10/10 GOTY - a transcendentally mature and intelligent work of art ("b-b-bu-but how did you do it? Where did this genius come from?"). A video game that pushes - no - smashes the bar of storytelling up into the noses of doubters and industry complacency, and even has TIME magazine, CNN and The New Yorker doing ecstatic and feverish stories on this new masterpiece that has managed to change our perceptions of the medium we (thought) we knew so well. Oh, to shock, deliver, instruct AND enter the history books in one sublime gesture. That would be a good feeling. Untouchable.
It's so easy to recline all day in the glowing fantasies of such rewards, but it's another thing to have it actually happen through real work. I'm not looking to Nintendo to be the one to push those storytelling boundaries anyways. They have their own set of pressing concerns now (that system I love to laugh at being one of their burdens), and Nintendo isn't going to produce a serious AAA game with expensive motion-capture acting and sensitive portraits of the human psyche - they lack the experience in that area and the risk-reward gamble for venturing in this direction is far too high.
Wow. You sound pretentious.
LOL!
As always, your post is hyperbole horseshit.
LOL you read that? You hate my posts and never agree with me, but you read it. What an idiotic kid
I did it to amuse myself, that's all. Didn't disappoint.
I just want nintendo to make a game with adult/mature themesminus the cartoon graphics. It does NOT need blood, cursing, excessive violence, sex or anything like that.
Nintendo fans think they are so amazing, but the fact is nintendo makes simplistic games with horrible enemy AI. All the enemies just move back and forth waiting to die. The AI is so simple it makes the games extremely easy. And nintendo refuses to actually put effort or money into a high budget AAA game. They just stick to cheap easy games because they are not skilled enough.
Seriously. How much money do you think games like Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros and Zelda actually cost them to make? They are so simple with barely any textures or anything like that. It probably took them 3 months to make mario kart 8 with a budget of 1 million dollars or less.

Just be quiet. I don't have time for valueless responses
Oh my! But you do have time to write walls of text to a company you obviously hate for the sake of labeling the sheep as a whole.
I'll stay quite now, if you so wish.
lol funny topic ..... the truth is ..... nintendo start as a family business ........... within family .... you don't want to entertain your relative wee wee, it feels awkward .......
the awkwardness make nintendo make something that fits for all family age
Nintendo concentrates on games suitable for family and friends. They're more of the party system unlike Mic and Sony. Mic and Sony are more into the core aspect of gaming which has more violence in them since that's what "adults" want. Most of those games aren't targeted at adults though. I'd even argue that none of them are aimed at adults. Teenagers and young adults but not people over 30. Nintendo keeps it simple so that people over that age can still get into it with their families or friends, which honestly is nice. My need for gore and swearing was done after GTA San Andreas. That game pretty much gave me my fill for that and ever since, I've barely noticed or craved gorey games. It's not like I don't buy them anymore but, I just don't care for it like I used to and I find Nintendo games to be very appealing. I'm 27 by the way.
Because Nintendo is a mainly kiddie console that tries to aim at casual gamers and fanboys and girls too. I guess they are spread a bit thin and they focus on their more popular titles at the expense of others (games that cross more gamer types) and existing popular franchises (which just happen to be not adult themed).
There's nothing wrong with that, they do try to do other things as well, pretty sure that Zombie U game is an adult game I would have thought. That's what the multi-plats are for.

nintendo had a love hotel so they know what's up.
Im picking up my Wii U later today. I am excited to play Mario Kart 8 and the new Mario games. I think that people need to get past the "mature" or "adult" lable when it comes to games on the Wii U versus the other systems. Blood, foul language and guns don't make games great. What makes games great are gameplay, visuals, story and so on!

Well yeah it would seem that way if you have absolutely no idea what your talking about.
@MirkoS77
Precisely.... And the video game industry is fully of examples of the exact opposite, games rated mature but filled to the brim with Immature content executed in the most immature way.... Gotta love that Irony.
This x1000. "Mature" rated games are often the most immature titles available on the market... and this is a market that includes Lego games and Dora the Explorer.
@ps4hasnogames:
Persona 4 is great, but adult it is not.
Persona 4 is M-rated, and therefore adult.
Nonsense.
Having an M rating does not make it adult. Ironically enough this is how children think.
I played mario golf and this game is very adult and mature. I'm surprised how much of a golf-sim it really is at times.
Nintendo makes games and consoles for children and casuals
Why would they ever want to go away from their core?
Because they have always been the Kiddie Console Company.
I hope your trolling.... incase you have lived under a rock or are simply too young to remember, but most of the nintendo consoles havn't been as popular as the chav bombastic alternatives.... PS2 being the JPOP are where the emo tweenies swoon over childish anime games (arnt stereotypes fun!) and teens thinking they are hard playing criminals in GTA and those s*itty manhunt games.... f*cking just the same man-child crap that you jsut facepalm to whenever you people go on about "kiddy games"... how is it any different?
Incase you havn't noticed, most game theme's dont paint a good picture of anywone. hence the damn stigma around this hobby. oh but look at E3 2014.... shooter, shooter, shooter , graphics, no substance.... its alright though, because that order game looks so "HARDCORE!" dem graphics.
Those kids games have more substance as games than the majority of games you morons hype these days.
Really?! Nintendo makes Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart etc. It's a company that thinks about making consoles & games for kids. Their DS's are for kids. It's not Trolling, it's a fact.
I had the Nintendo, SNES,Wii, & the DS. They're kiddie gaming systems & Nintendo makes kiddie games as well.
ITT: People who have never played The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Metroid Prime, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark and that Nintend is currently funding Bayonetta 2 and in the past supported projects like Eternal Darkness.

Nintendo is like Pixar. They appeal to a broad enough audience that appeases both children and adults. Deep enough for adults, but enough to keep children interested.
The Nintendo, SNES, and DS had incredible gaming libraries with some very sophisticated game design. There's nothing "kiddie" about Super Metroid. You are wrong. In every way you are wrong.

I feel sorry for you. I do.
1. I played plenty of M rated games as a kid. Mortal Kombat. Grand Theft Auto 3. Who are we kidding about who plays M rated games? It's kids.
2. I didn't say M rated games are for kids. I said THINKING that a games rating is what makes it adult is the way children think. Having blood and gore, say in an R rated film, does not mean it is an ADULT film. I It just has adult content. The film itself could be childish and stupid like most horror movies.
And your comment about mario golf says it all. You sir, need to grow up. Are you 12? I bet you're 12.
lol adult themed? who makes adult games? most adults don't even have time for games
I spend more time reading about games than I do playing them. Sigh. My favorite hobby that I have NO TIME for. What a life.
This stigma Nintendo has is actually kind of funny when you think about it. The Gamecube had some of the more "adult" oriented games that I have ever played with the likes of the Resident Evil titles, Eternal Darkness and others. Just because games like Zelda and Mario have bright colors and upbeat musical scores doesn't mean they aren't fun and challenging. I just don't believe in order for a game to be good it has to have F-bombs and blood and guts!!!
lol adult themed? who makes adult games? most adults don't even have time for games
That is false generalization. Most adults have plenty of time to play games if they choose. It is no different than someone who sits down to read a book for a couple of hours or someone who loves to spend hours gardening or woodworking. I personally work 50+ hours a week, make it a point to exercise 4-5 times a week, do the usual around the house "honey-do's" and still manage to get in 15-20 hours of gaming a week.

My god man. HOW DO YOU DO IT? I'm so beat I can't even put an hour into games most weeks.

1. I have older children...2 in College and 2 in High School. They are busy with their own friends and jobs now!
2. My Wife is a goddess and allows me my gaming time as long as I hold up my end and help out with all of the "honey-do's"
3. I look at it as my relaxation time. A lot of nights my Wife will spend a couple of hours watching DVR'd shows that don't interest me, so at that point its off to the "man cave"!!
Nintendo is family friendly. That being said Rated E means EVERYONE including Adults. Nintendo and Platinum gave gamers Mad World on the Wii. That was one of the most gruesome games I've ever played.

but tc used Persona as an example, so I believe that what he wants is not gore and shit but games with deeper themes of which Nintendo has none. Because nintendo only focuses on fun and that everything has to be fun. Miyamoto once said that if you want a good story, read a book....

The M rating is there for a reason, meaning it's not suitable for children. Just because there are kids playing games with violent or sexual content, that doesn't suddenly make these games suitable for children.
Mario Golf is suitable for all ages, adult and children alike. That's why it's E-rated. Most Nintendo games in general are designed to be enjoyable for both adults and children alike.
Don't care. There are plenty of developers out there making all kinds of different stuff for all kinds of differing tastes. There are some Nintendo games that you could argue to be more adult themed, but the point is moot. Overall, Nintendo makes family friendly games. Games for everyone. Light hearted and fun enough for children, but challenging and aesthetically pleasing enough for adults. Some people like it, some people don't. Opinions omg!
I'm not opposed to Nintendo straying from their norm, they need to get out of the comfort zone from time to time. I just don't expect them to try and appeal to every different kind of gamer there is.

Yea I wasn't talking about heads getting chopped off and stuff like that...that is not what makes a game adult, but maybe something with an adult theme that a 30 year old can play and really get into. Something that makes you think, like Alan Wake had a good premise, it wasn't very gory, neither was Persona but they still dealt with adult themes.

It's a matter of perspective. In mine it's a kiddie console company. In yours it's not. I've owned & played many of Nintendo's consoles & see it as kiddie.
@Gue1: Ah I see. Miyamoto did say before about doing realistic games. He said He can do them, but he doesn't like to cause it restricts creativity. Probably a similar thing. People like Iwata, Miyamoto or Sakurai always want to smile and have a good time so they make games that put a smile on your face. Have we ever seen Miyamoto not smile? I think one time when the Skyward Sword demo wasn't working at E3 lol...
Why can't Nintendo fanboys just admit that Nintendo games are extremely childish? Pokemon is probably more popular among adults than it is kids, but that doesn't stop it from being childish. Just because 35 year olds enjoy tom & Jerry doesn't mean that t&j is 'mature'. We don't have adults going "hurr durr we don't need blood or sex in our movies to be mature" - then proceed to watch Disney. Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong are all childrens games.
The average My Little Pony fan is a 38 year old overweight virgin, doesn't stop it from being a little girl's show.
What a bad thread, even by TC's standards.
your butt is hurt, and I wasn't even bashing your god nintendo.
