I always wonder why activision, microsoft, or sony follow the 60$ rule for games like halo, modern warfare, or gran turismo series. The fact is everyone is still going to buy this game if it was 70$, or 80$

im sure they would love to... but console makers have control over their pricing models.
thats why they release limited editions... and based on how many flaming helmets i see in halo reach online... seems like alot of people are more than willing to pay $150 for the title, even when its standard price is $60.
They do with collectors editions.. So they get money from the people who are willing to spend more money for basically nothing and get money from people who wont
[QUOTE="nhh18"]Be quiet. Before Bobby hears you. Bobby thought of it first. MW2 was roughly £5 more than an average game.I always wonder why activision, microsoft, or sony follow the 60$ rule for games like halo, modern warfare, or gran turismo series. Companies don't just price their products arbitrarily. The 60 dollar price point for this gen was most likely discussed and settled on by most or all publishers and console makes (not Nintendo though) as the price which maximized profitability. If you sell your games at 80 dollars, but only sell half as many as a result, you're making less money, not just from the initial sales but from future DLC purchases as well.
**** no, I'll buy it somewhere else. Or I'll just wait.
I would never give in to retailers jacking up prices just because they know us gamers will still buy it.
Blockbuster is already having enough trouble staying open. The last thing they would want to do is raise prices. Piracy is a good thing sometimes. It puts business in check.
Well, they make up for the "low" price of $60 in other ways. Blockbusters like Modern Warfare 2 remain at the $60 price point much longer than the average game on the market.
In fact, a new copy of MW2 is still $60 at Gamestop and $60 on Steam! How many other games can say that a year after release, and with a sequel soon on its way?

It's a legitimate inquiry. As I said, MW2 was priced higher than the standard RRP in the UK, and Black Ops is following suit, so evidently it's working out for them. I don't really know why they're not bringing this innovation outside the UK, but I'd wager it's just a matter of time. Please Log In to post.
