Why doesn't Playstation have an iconic character that people actually care about?

I just realized that MS has 3 characters in Smash. Banjo and Steve as playable and Vault Boy as a trophy. Also MC is generally one of the most requested and desired potential characters in Smash

But I look at the Playstation side and....nothing....no Kratos...where's Joel? Maybe Abby can be in Smash?

It just hit me how in the grand scheme of things, Playstation characters are simply not iconic, lame and generic

I thought Blinx was the Microsoft mascot?

I would love to see ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, sly cooper and Kratos in smash. I dont think sony is willing to pimp their cast out yet....

Who in his right mind would consider Steve an iconic MS character ? Also Banjo? most people still remember Banjo for the N64 games.

I would argue that Kratos is a much more iconic character than all that MS has.

Playstation goes through various mascots. PS1 was Crash and Sweet Tooth. PS2 was Kratos and ICO. PS3 was Nathan Drake. PS4 was Nathan Drake and Joel. PS5 thus far is Astrobot.

Nobody wanted to see Abby smash before, no one wants to see it now ;-).

And the closest thing Sony ever had to a real mascot character was maybe Spyro, but they ended that series on the PS1.

Well being number 1 console seller in the world , doesn’t require a mascot. Now MS needs all the mascots in the world to help the Xbox move from 3rd place to 2nd.

The real question is why we would obsess as a gaming community over mascots? Does the mascot equate to success in some way?

Just because a Sony Character isn't in SMASH means they don't have any memorable mascots?

I mean Solid Snake and Cloud are in Smash, good enough haha

I personally don't really think being a DLC character in a Nintendo Brawler is a measure of how iconic a mascot is for a company. Jin from Ghost of Tsushima and Nathan Drake from Uncharted are so Iconic at this point they are getting movies about the characters.

Nintendo is the master of mascots but as far as Microsoft goes, I think Master Chief is pretty generic seeing as how we already had a green space marine that doesn't talk a decade before Halo came out. They do however, have the iconic Craig the Brute that was made into lots of memes.

They got Kratos though. Hardly any of the gaming legend badasses are that badass.

Before GoW reboot, i would've agreed, but not anymore. This is as good as it gets. Perfectly acted. Great design. What else do you want?

As if being in Smash Bros is anything to go off of.

That said, I never really liked the franchise until the newest one and even it's just meh.

They have that big muscle trans person that upset internet men.

Which generation of PlayStation? And what qualifies a character as an iconic character for X platform?

The reason I ask is because there's only been one Banjo game made under the Xbox banner and, that was 13 years ago.

I'd argue Banjo is an iconic Nintendo character and, not a Microsoft one.

What I'm getting at is ... I'd go as far as to consider "third party" characters like Crash and, Spyro as iconic PlayStation characters.

Even though he's not actually Sony brand, I think a lot of people associated Solid Snake with the brand, probably more so than Naughty Dog or The God Of War man.

Going back further, same with Final Fantasy (namely 7) and Tomb Raider.

Give it 10 years - then all the Bethesda, Ninja Theory, etc stuff will have had a few showings on Xbox and come to better represent them than they do now.

Console manufacturers don't make games, they shouldn't have a mascot.

Developers make games, they make characters. Stop worshipping the hardware manufacturers when you should be praising the developer.

Personally vastly prefer it. I mean I really don't want to see how nintendo milked Mario and Pokemon. Idk how those fans buy them same game every year but I am grateful its not on PlayStation.

Why don't you send an email to Nintendo about why they won't let iconic Playstation characters be added.

They still don't make games, though.

Actually, explain. Console manufacturers literally built/acquire their own studios and invested money and talents to make contents for their platform and own the IP.

Ratchet and Clank>all MS mascots.

(To be honest Ratchet and Clank is the only Sony IP I even care for but I LOVE IT!!!!!)

I think of Nathan Drake when I think of recent playstation.

Smash is about characters who appear on a Nintendo platform. So none of them should be in Smash.

Talking about iconic Characters Sony has some of the most in the industry.

Kratos, Ratchet, Clank, Jax, Daxter, Nathan Drake. They are all legendary status.

MS didn't create shit they just bought them after the fact. Regardless Kratos is more iconic then anyone MS has with maybe the exception of Master Chief.

Though, to be fair, they are asking for another Space Marine of the "Traverse through Hell" variety (which doesn't make much sense, in my honest opinion as he resonates more with PC gamers than he ever will Nintendo).
