I'm talking Skyrim like voice acting with full length dialogue. Most Nintendo games keep this to a minimal, and only do sound effects/bytes. Do you think Nintendo will get there, SW? Would you be happy with a fully voiced Zelda game? Or you don't care? I ask you so the marketers can read your comments.

How come some Vita games don't even have English dubs? Subtitles for games are really lame.

Super Mario Sunshine had full voice acting in the cut scenes and it was pretty much the worst thing ever.

Low sales, probably. .

People who can't live without voice acting are just too fucking lazy to read.

Morrowind had next to no voice acting, yet it still smacks the dogshit out of Oblivion and Skyrim (especially Oblivion).

Full voice acting is not necessary to make a good game but of course it always helps to have one. It's not an issue IMO...

I think story is not something that they consider as important as fun factor/gameplay of the game, so it doesn't matter at the end of the day to have full voice acting in a gameplay driven game. It also helps them save money may be.

I loved Divinity: OS but conversations between characters weren't voice acted. It didn't bother me but I'd love to have more VA in their next game. If not, then I'll still be satisfied as long as the gameplay is good.

Mario doesn't need it, the Zelda story lines sans Majora Mask are pretty lousy for anyone that doesn't use the "for video games" qualifier to praise it, MK8 and Smash don't really need it, Star Fox has always had it, Xenoblade has it, Fire Emblem does that jrpg thing where some of it is voice acted and other parts aren't, so quite a few Nintendo ips have voice acting. Metroid Other M had it, and frankly it was pretty bad.

Intelligent Systems is probably the only studio they have that's actually really good at telling plots, and even then they mess with jrpg bullshit or saturday morning cartoon stuff.

Well, F-Zero GX had voice acting, StarFox, I think Fire Emblem, one Metroid did, and, of course, Xenoblade.

Its already been mentioned, but they do have games with voiceovers. I would like to see a whole voiced Zelda though. Thats about their only IP that I question why they haven't yet.

A lot of Nintendo games have had VA. You need to do better research before pressing the new topic button.

Because it costs a fortune and for some games is entirely unnecessary?

And Skyrim doesn't have good voice acting. It has a handful of mediocre voice actors spread over too many different characters. Granted, it wasn't as bad as Oblivion, but still highly noticeable.

You're surprised VDF has crap like that to say about Ninty? He's the same guy who thinks (and blatantly said it too) Nintendo should be ALL about him (and boy do I remember that argument from almost a couple years back) or they deserve to die.

Because they either dont need it or it would outright detract from it.

Personally I prefer no or partial voice overs in games for most of the time.

Kids get bored listening to boring stuff like dialogue. Also, ask them to read stuff and you've lost them. Along comes Mario jumping up and down and their little eyes light up.

Zelda characters will never speak in game. Ninty has had the hardware capabilities & budget for generations now. They are intentionally leaving out voice acting.

you might want to find the LINK to that one..Im slightly older than most people here so my memory might have failed me..ALSO..NIN has said before they arent changing anything. They dont want to change. They dont care what the fans have to say or want. AND Im an oldschool NIN fan..JUST not since the N64..clunky controllers, same games decade after decade, lack luster hardware specs, horrible online, and too greedy to drop prices of games even after 4 years.. I dont owe NIN any respect until they listen to the long time fans..sorry.

Some of them do.

Xenoblade has voice acting, Metroid Other M had voice acting...

Last I checked Nintendo owns The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, The Wonderful 101, and Fatal Frame which have voice acting.

That's easy. This is a decade + old question...it boils down to simple economics.

$$$

They have done it little in the past, but they aren't quick to adopt it because if a game doesn't need it to sell like Mario sells, why bother? For the genres that can use it, they dabble at least, but they could do better sure...It's all you can ask, but keep in mind Nintendo has to look at the big picture. Would inserting VA into a game generate more $$$? A lot of times it's not worth the cost to them. Risk vs Reward. Even Zelda which could greatly benefit from fantastic VA, doesn't need VA to sell, so again, it's a matter of $$$.

Yes, and that great game came from a studio (Monolith Soft) that learned to do VA back on non-Nintendo systems and carried their style and work over to Nintendo. Internally, it's going to take a while for Nintendo to adopt an extra cost like quality VA on a gamble.

You made an excellent point, the success of these titles with VA and without VA do speak volumes to the Big N.

It's one of those things. Nintendo refuses to modernise. The fans are fearful of progress and designed to defend Nintendo at all costs. So it's 2015 and you get adventure games without any speech and instead of thinking, yes, maybe this is one way the ways Nintendo should be moving forward we instead get people attacking other games with speech as if there is nothing wrong with a game steadfastly sticking to walls of text and shying away from a proper voice cast.

Solution: You don't need to voice Link. Plenty of games have the protagonist silent, because it's you. Link doesn't need to be all "I'll get my stuff!". Voice the rest of the cast instead.

I'm quite content with reading in games regardless of platform. I actually prefer games with no voice acting, but if it is there then cool I wont complain. I guess it is because I watch a ton of Foreign language movies and shows so reading is something I always do.

I'd imagine because Nintendo is very gameplay focused, and things such as VA tends to be a bit more more narrative natured.

Ehh...

Kid Icarus Uprising was fully voiced, and it was internally developed. It was successful and very well done.

I think this comes down to VA not aligning with Nintendo's end goals for game development- they emphasize mechanics and interactivity over storytelling, and VA matters more when it comes to storytelling.

That said, narrative rich Nintendo franchises such as Zelda or Metroid might benefit from voice acting, assuming Nintendo were willing to give it a shot, and do it right.

Yes.

A lot of Nintendo games have had VA. You need to do better research before pressing the new topic button.

actually, you need to brush up on your reading skills because my post clearly states full voice over dialogue ala Skyrim. it's also clear that I am talking about major AAA games. that's called context clues. try again, buddy!

*looks at Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus*

Lol.

Xenoblade is first party?

Yes.

A lot of Nintendo games have had VA. You need to do better research before pressing the new topic button.

actually, you need to brush up on your reading skills because my post clearly states full voice over dialogue ala Skyrim. try again, buddy!

He's still right- Kid Icarus Uprising was fully voiced.

tell me, how many Nintendo first party games come with full voice over compared to PS4, X1, and PC?

Tell me, how many Nintendo games actually focus on storytelling?

The ones that focus on storytelling get voice acting. The sole exception to this is Zelda, and I agree Zelda should get voices for all non Link characters. Apart from that, having voices in a game like Mario or Kirby or Donkey Kong adds nothing, the central focus of the games is mechanics, not story and presentation.

Also, you compared Nintendo's output with the entire lineup of PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Lol.
