Why hasn't anyone talked about the plunge in Wii sales in last NPD report?

The wii only managed to sell 455,000 consoles for the month of Januaray in last months NPD report.. that is a very sharp drop for the Wii, i made a prediction that this is the start of the burst of the Wii bubble. I say by spring the Wii will only be within 50,000 consoles of PS3/360. Once Sony ramps up production of PS3 again in spring and there wont be any shortages i see the PS3 and wii only being 25,000 units apart from each other every month.

I just dont see any catalyst whatsoever to drive wii sales from here.. sure it will still sell, but i really think sells of the Wii drop off big from here.

well, you have to expect the numbers to drop eventually.. I mean.. what percentage of households have the damn thing already? there has to be a point where so many consumers have it already there is no one left to buy it.

nearly 4 million units in December. All the analysts expected shortages. I think its time for people to give up on their wii failure timeline. You have all been embarrassingly wrong time and time again.

well on the flip side i think those that claim the Wii will break the PS2 record is also quite ridicoulos. No way it will happen, wii sells will drop off sharply from here.. There are only so many yuppie soccer moms and dads in the world ya know.

Keyword "similiar" gone are the days the Wii outsells PS360 by hundreds of thousands of consoles.

If the wii doesn't take the record it would only be because it won't have as long as a life cycle. What is the record? and where is the wii at?

PS2 stands at 148 million.. so the wii has about oh, 97 million or so consoles to go before it just matches the PS2 record.. yea, i dont see that happening period.

Yeah you're probably right, I can't see people still buying the wii 15 years (or whatever it is) after it's release, specially with Natal and the arc on the way.

I say the wii tops out at around 70-75 million total lifetime worldwide sales.. Still far far away from PS2's record. PS2 stands at 148 million.. so the wii has about oh, 97 million or so consoles to go before it just matches the PS2 record.. yea, i dont see that happening period.

So I say that these predictions are useless and always wrong snd you go and make another prediction. If you think the PS3rd is suddenly going to start outselling the Wii, you should inform yourself more.

Last Month NPD

Nintendo Wii – 465,800 units
Xbox 360 – 332,800 units
PlayStation 3 – 276,900 units

Maybe its just my math but there is quite a gap there. Remember that one of those systems had a december that embarassed the PS2's bestt month by over a million units. Wii will never pass PS2 but it certainly is not going to tap out at 70-75 million units. That's not happening.

Though it still currently is outselling by hundreds of thousands. Even if it did stop outselling by millions, would it be that big of a deal? It's like trying to spin that "Well....we were losing by hundreds of miles...but now we're only losing by a few dozen miles!". You're still losing.

DS could easily break this record though.nintendo-4life

The Wiis sales always drop and people always assume the worst, then sales skyrocket and people claim they never said a thing.

wats your point kenny?the wii is obviously still kicking behind and its the beginning of the year all major stores get shortages especailly my gamestop the only reason right now the ps3 is sold out in my store is because we get like 10-15 systems sony hasnt been pushing units. we will get about 30 wiis and sell out of it the next day...like whats happening right now

in case you hadn't noticed NPD sales of the Wii were far worse over the summer of 2009 averaging something like 300k a month and people were predicting the wii bubble had burst back then too, and then christmas shopping season came along and ****slapped everybody like it usually does

Ok first the PS2 has sold 140 million units as of October 1st 09, your proof is all over the Internet so at best its at 140.5 million units while the Wii is currently at 67.2 million (vgchartz.com) so the Wii in reality is only 73.3 million units behind, not the 97 mill you pulled out of your arse.

Yes and if you think about it more people are buying it for gaming than the PS2. One of the main reasons why the PS2 had done so well was because it was a cheap DVD player. The only thing you can do with the Wii is play games.

how is 465,000 consoles sold considered "plunging sales"? And no the Wii bubble is not about to burst. Everyone has been saying that since day one and its not happened and its not going to happen. They won. Get over it. The Wii is not my console of choice but give some credit where its due. The Wii has killed the other systems so bad, that sony and microsoft had to completely change their business model and go after "casual gamers". Now, we have Project Natal and that stupid Sony Wand thingy. And think about this, if Sony sold 465,000 this month, all the ps3 fanboys would be claiming victory over 360 and they would be bragging thatin 2019 they will finally catch the Wii

It's highly unlikely the Wii will outsell the PS2 in lifetime sales.

Now the DS....The DS has a fairly high chance.

Ups and downs are natural. These constant predictions of doom are kind of ridiculous though. The Wii will not fail, if the Wii stopped selling, completely, right now, it still would not be a failure.

Because when you're still the highest selling console, and in this case the highest selling system for the month. Who really cares if you dropped off a bit? when you're the best you're the best.

Wouldn't the fact it's outselling them mean people care?

no, it means people IQ is decreasing...........no offense here, it's my opinion.

That is not an opinion, its an insult. Hard not to take offense at something like that.

coz nobody care about the Wii, all i know itwas selling alot and it's now selling less, and yet it's still beating the HD consoles.

Theres something wrong with your post.

"No one cares about the wii"

"The wii is outselling the HD consoles".

Wouldn't the fact it's outselling them mean people care?

no, it means people IQ is decreasing...........no offense here, it's my opinion.

you're essentially calling the wii owners "dumber" than the 360/PS3 owners. How the hell do you not mean to offend? Learning some definitions would be a good start.

If it was up to me, talking about sales would be an instant ban.

The Wii could cease to sell a single console for the next year and Nintendo would still have nothing to worry about.

The wii only managed to sell 455,000 consoles for the month of Januaray in last months NPD report.. that is a very sharp drop for the t Wii, i made a prediction that this is the start of the burst of the Wii bubble.

So, what you are saying is that the Wii is still selling more every month than TEH GRAFIX consoles. If there were shortages of the PS3 the price wouldn't have been cut in half.
