[QUOTE="-General_Ram-"][QUOTE="GARRYTH"][QUOTE="-General_Ram-"] the plan is to pass 360 within its 10 year lifespan. theyll pass 360 worldwide one day.......but some cows fear that day will happen when the next gen arrives with the 720....and at that point itll be a hollow victory.

are you saying that every ps 2 sold after the 360 and wii came does not count to the total sales of the ps 2. just because micro and nin drop there consoles does not mean last gen is over. when sony stops making the ps 2 then last gen will be over.Last gen has ended buddy. PS2 is merely a last gen console that isnt discontinued. We currently live in the generation of Wii, 360 and PS3.
And my point still stands. When 720 launches, if PS3 passes 360 then it WILL be a hollow victory, as PS3 and 360 will be considered last gen consoles at that time.
History will remember 360 being #2 when the next gen begins....even though it eventaully becomes third. deal.
last gen is not over it is called last gen for a reason but it not over. if it was over than the ds,psp,ps 2 would not be still selling. yes it called last gen but if the ps 3 outsold the 360 after the 720 it will be # 2 no matter what. people are not going to say it was third place because the 720 and wii 2 are out now.Um... you do realize both the DS and PSP are current generation handhelds and aren't on the same level as the PS2 right? The next generationg of handheld gaming hasn't arrived yet therefore both of those platforms are still considered current generation (in terms of handheld gaming, not console) until the DS2 and PSP2 drop some time in the next year or so.
As for the PS2, sure the sales still count on some level, but last generation ended with the PS2 in the lead and its still in the lead over the Gamecube and Xbox (the original), but when compared to the current generation platforms (Wii, PS3, and 360) the sales don't matter at all. Also I'd hardly call the PS2 being supported at this point, didn't it only have like 15 games out this year, most of which were sports games? Sony is counting to keep the PS2 alive just out of spite to hit the 10 year mark and then they'll drop so fast it won't even be funny.
The PS3 WILL pass 360 in World Wide sales, but it won't be until long after the 360 has vanished from store shelves and the next Microsoft console has taken its place. Its a victory to some, but the others, its meaningless because the PS3 will have beaten a console that wasn't increasing its numbers because it wasn't being supported. While the 360 is in production, the PS3 won't pass it in World Wide sales, unless this generation actually runs for another 10 years and the sales stay just as they are now. With a $199 360 on the market and the Wii still staying strong at $250 there's no hope for a $400 PS3 to hang with them.
