pc gaming is a acquired taste if you dont start young like i did(i started at 8 cuz i wasnt allowed consoles)

there are plenty of reasons whyt we love pc gfaming

but there is one reason too long underrepresented

we grow a special bond with our computers, because they are unique, and we put them together ourselves

well tell yall fun, touching stories about overclocking problems, optimizing games to get the best performance possible, cleaning out your rig with air spray, and sleeping with your motherboard at night to help you fall asleep, well i do at least(jk)

i know yall might think you just want to plug n play but take the pc challenge, build a rig(its very easy!), and if your not satisfied ill recount my favorite game of all, hl1, the frustration and pleasure i had while beating it, how i tried to cheat to beat the last boss, but it didnt work for some reason, andi ended up beating the game honest.lly/ ill also recount the good oled days of not having to buy a video card, well i was too young to remember clearyl

I like keeping my PC separated from gaming (it's not that good anyway...don't have money to upgrade or anything). The PC is for my work, news, projects, internet, MSN, and all the usual stuff. My consoles are for the games. Once I play a console, I turn into gamer mode and play the game and get sucked intoit for hours.

I don't like mixing my two worlds. I keep my gaming world to consoles, and the work and communication world to PC.

Sorry, I can't explain it any better than that. I just don't see my PC as a gaming machine. maybe it's the uncomfortable chair, or maybe it's the small non-HD screen, but I just don't like gaming on the PC.

And thus the world is plagued by misconceptions. Your PC can provide every bit the same experience as a console. OMG TEH COUCH, TEH HDTV, GAMEPADS LAWL, you name it. The PC supports it all. My favorite quote to describe PC gaming is from a broadway stage show: "Anything you can be I can be greater, sooner or later I'm greater than you." :o

I said MAYBE it's those things. Even if I did have a nice HDTV and a couch, I still would not feel comfortable playing games on my PC.

I just don't like PC gaming. (not hermits or anything. Just PC gaming in general). Nothing I can do about it. I just don't want to mix my gaming world with my real world.

Well that has more to do with your beliefs and unwillingness to see things in an open mind. The PC can provide the EXACT same experience as consoles. A PC is tailor made to the person using it. Thats why its called a, "Personal Computer". My computer is used primarly for making movies, extravagant AV works, and the occasional game. However, there are people out there that have cases small than gamecubes, gamepads, couches, big screen TVs, sound systems that surpass your normal consoles, and sleek interfaces that makes PCs easier to use than consoles. Thats the beauty of a PC. Your opinion has less to do with the platform, and more to do with your predisposition.

You can't convert me by inferring that I'm close minded. I wouldn't make this choice if I haven't had some experience in the past. I've played games on my PC before yes, but I never liked playing them on my PC.

Listen, you can keep going on sounding like some infomercial telling me how PCs are great and stuff. But you're not going to convince me of anything. I just don't like PC gaming. Man, can't a guy have his own opinion without being criticized about it.

Kinda reminds me of Jehova's witnesses popping up at my front door trying to convert me.

You seem to be mistaken here. I never attempt to disprove an opinon. I merely push to prove that such opinions are entirely unfounded and based almost entirely upon predisposition. The PC can provide the same experience as consoles. Fact. Where did I say, "OMG PCS ARE TEH GREATZORZ". You are inferring too much here. I'm merely pointing out facts. Take them as you will. The more times you attempt to put out misguided facts, the more times I'll correct you.

I'm not trying to say my opinion is right... i've never even said that my opinions are facts. I haven't mentioned one misguided fact, only opinions.

Man...it shouldn't be this hard to understand.

And no, my opinions are not founded on predisposition. Only through experience and choice.

wow, what a rip-off. You can get those for under $200, brand-new. If your going to spend $220, why not put in the extra $30 for a 8800GTS?

I respect what you're saying. I'm the same way with cars. I don't however, have that same "connection" with computers, and I doubt building one would give it to me. If I did have a passion for them like that, then I would probably not consider any other gaming.

You understand that PC monitors have been driving HD resolutions and higher for much longer time than HDTVs were mainstream?

They don't have to. You do so of your own volition. If you purchase a PC now, it will last you the entire generation and provide graphicso n par with consoles.

i've been a pc gamer for 10 years now although i have little knowledge of the pc hardware and i still have yet to know many things. pc gaming is very fantastic. i love pc gaming because i grew with it (Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo, AoE era) and i love mouse and keyboard more than a traditional controller used by consoles until the wii was created. pc gaming will and should never die.

no I didn't......I've mentioned quite a couple of times that I like to keep my real world away from my game world. that's the reason behind my preference. The whoe phrase: "Maybe it was the uncomfortable chair, small non-hd monitor" never meant that that was the true reason behind my dislike for PC gaming.

PS: that wasn't a lie. I really do have small non-hd monitors and uncomfortable chairs. And they DID restrict me from ever playing (or working as a matter of fact) for too long.

That has nothing to do with PC as a gaming platform, only your own personal choice......trix5817
Exactly. Trix put it as blunty as I ever could have. Oh and by the way, that monitor IS HD. I'm sure its native resolution is 1024X768? Welcome to 720p. You see, its only your personal predicaments that cause your predisposition. Its not the platform's fault.

Sorry, I can't explain it any better than that. I just don't see my PC as a gaming machine. maybe it's the uncomfortable chair, or maybe it's the small non-HD screen, but I just don't like gaming on the PC.

Metroid_Time

Oh my god. I've said it plenty of time but non-HD monitor? Go back in time and tell that to me ten years ago when I was playing Quake 2 in "HD"

haha, I think it will scare you even more if I mentioned that until about a month ago, my PC still ran on Windows 98. Now its running on XP. :P. Like I mentioned before, I never really found the need to upgrade if all I was going to do is basic stuff like work, internet, and MSN on my PC.

And I've never really felt the need to buy anything more than a genesis. You see, its not the platforms fault. Its your mere personal opinion. You have no factual foundation to back up your opinon whatsoever. Nto saying your opinion is wrong.

factual foundation? You evensaid yourself: It's personal choice (that was trix actually. But you agreed upon it). Personal choice needs no factual foundation.

It's like a person who likes apples more than oranges just because, to him, apples taste better.

And that's how I formed my opinion. Just out of personal choice. Why is that so wrong?

Oh man not THAT old. I'm not good with computers (tech mumbo jumbo and such) but I'm pretty sure that it's not in HD. It's like a really old Gateway CRT monitor.

Kinda like this one here.

PC Gaming beats the other systems hands down in many areas and I agree with the customization aspect, even if I currently have a love-hate relationship with my PC I certainly feel more attached to it than any of the consoles that I own for instance.

The problem is that certain genres are under-represented in PC Gaming, there are all kinds of different compatability issues and the PC isn't nearly as well represented in the wider gaming press.

no, that's not what I meant.I know you never meant to say my opinion was wrong. When I said "Why is that so wrong" I was trying to say: Why is it so wrong to form an opinion without any factual foundation.

I know, you never meant to say my opinion was wrong. Man it's hard to argue in text...:P

Let me tell you this now. As an AV person, the one thing I do know are monitors more than anything. IBm released its XGA standard for displays in 1990. The native resolution of this standard is 1024X768. The previous standard, SVGA, which was atleast 800X600 was released in 1987. The last monitor that was the last resolution you mentioned set as its standards was an AMIGA. All monitors post 1990 fully support HD. The monitor you linked has a max resolution of freaking 1280X1024 FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

Well that has more to do with your beliefs and unwillingness to see things in an open mind.Vandalvideo

Hmm...why does that seem so hypocritical coming from you...

wow, what a rip-off. You can get those for under $200, brand-new. If your going to spend $220, why not put in the extra $30 for a 8800GTS?

trix5817

Not X1950XTX you can't.

PC's are the only platform where you actually feel like you own the hardware. With consoles it's almost as if you are renting them from the companies. The companies control the fate of how useful your hardware is. Propreitary hardware and formats gives you no choice in the hardware you buy and the online system is completely up to the company. $50 a month for a P2P online system?! Friend codes? With the PC game developers can choose freely how they want to set up the online service for that game. Don't like the feel of keyboard and mouse for this game? Just buy a gamepad. This game is lagging? Just chuck in some more RAM. Customizability is something you take for granted until you try a console.

Personally, I think PC gaming is the best but my PC can't even run San Andreas on high, but I just think the freedom, and everything, just makes it the best. Even if it's not the most simple, but even the, the consoles may be easier to play, but have more problems in my opinions.
