When i was a kid. like in kindergardern and first grade, it was always fun to talk about the videogames. This was the age when system wars began in my life. Although i owned both a snes and a genesis at the time, I was always a sega boy at heart and we would exchange arguments at school and everywhere else. Life was good with these two systems battling eachother. heck, one was white, one was black. It was so clear that Alladin and Mortal Kombat were better on Genesis. And i dont care what anyone says, Sonic could pimpsmack mario any day of the week.

Anyway, one day here came along a new company named Sony. They were this new contender with their sleek looking Playstation system. and they had shapes instead of letters on their controller. It was a crazy third system that entered the fray and changed things forever.

Some years later, Sony has grown into the big fish on campus and have dominated the gaming world. They came into this battle between sega and nintendo and pretty much ousted them both with the playstation two, effectivly KILLING my beloved sega!

How dare this shape controllered hardware company come into my gaming world and flip things upsideown. And it was then that i swore vengance to them.

As sony grew and grew they became almost invincible, peaking in a golden age during the ps2 when out of the blue. A small unknown software company named microsoft has an idea.

As time passed and the xbox came and gone, it introduced videogamers into a new underdog system, a new mascot to fight against this plague of videogame terrorism that is Sony. The xbox was successful in that it introduced the microsoft name to console gaming, and it proved to sony that they are not the only fish in the sea.

Now with the xbox 360, having excecuted PERFECTALLY, countless buisness strategies, from releasing a year early, to an advertising formula of "jump in"

After all these years, all these years it is finally time for sony to realize the plague on the videogame community that they are. Finally a bigger fish has arrived. And it has arrived with one mission and one mission only, to bring videogames back.

Thank you MS. I can start up my 360 and i can play sonic the hedgehog 2.

* I think you need to emotionally detach yourself from these console companies.

** Interesting you refer to Microsoft, the wealthiest and most profitable firm in the world, as an under dog.

*** So basically, even in Enron made a console, as long as it was directed at Sony, you'd be cool with it? Also, hi, where was Nintendo? I'm pretty sure they were also showing Sony wasn't the only game in town.

**** Bit hard to call it perfect with the red rings of death.

So? They were still competition, thus denying Sony that "only fish in the sea" status.

Whats up with all these people still using the term "Xbot"? It's so...juvenile...Anyway, I am personally glad that Sony is no longer the dominating force in the video game industry. I just hope that whoever wins, they don't turn into another Sony.

look at market value and net profit. MS could buy out Sony if they really wanted to. No reason to though. Also do not come back with that lame revenue stat that cows like to show. It is all about net profit( money the company keeps) and MS destroys Sony. Also MS's market value is far better then Sony's.

Why would they try? No really please explain. What does Sony have that MS would want? Only thing they have in common is consoles other then that nothing at all. One sells hardware like TVs and other is a pure software company.

Here is MS and their market value is $271 Billion http://finapps.forbes.com/finapps/jsp/finance/compinfo/CIAtAGlance.jsp?tkr=MSFT

here is Sony's and their market value is $47 billion http://finapps.forbes.com/finapps/jsp/finance/compinfo/CIAtAGlance.jsp?tkr=SNE

Also you can see on forbes top 2000 list MS is #66 and Sony is #164. Sony really is not in the same league as MS when it comes to money even though fanboys like to think different. Sony has to spend FAR more to run thier company. Warhouses, workers, supplies blah blah. MS is software company so FAR less to run. 1000 computer program does not take up any space really but 1000 TVs do take up space.

Yeah but MS sucks for old school gamers. Don't expect your console to work in 10 years time when you want to revisit classics. Great games but I know that I will one day want to experience them again.

Yeah even the first Xbox doesn't get the credit it deserves. It was more powerful than the ps2 and had better graphics. Now MS leads the console market. Gates is a master of business and that can't be denied. MS's business methods are so tenacious that they're stealing exclusives and developers that would have otherwise been with Sony. I don't see the 360 falling behind.

Sony makes more than just the PS3.

And thats what Im trying to say while I do hate Sony you have to give them their due because they do produce more than just the PS3. TVs Suround Sound systems and more. And if would be so easy for MS to just buy Sony then they would do. It would cut down on their #1 competitor in the console war and would give MS access to a whole new market and industry.

You're wrong. I'm 31 and have been playing games for 26 years. The 360 is a great machine. As an old school gamer, I remember my Atari joysticks wearing out. I remember my NES needing it's cartridges constantly blown out to play. I remember having to wedge cardboard in my NES cartridge holder to be at the right elevation for games to play. I haven't had any serious problems with my 360, so yeah you're wrong about the old school gamer thing.

Again why would they buy them out ? Why because they both sell one product the same?? My god they both sell many other things. MS makes far more money off of things like Windows and Word because compared to TVs and DVD players there is no shiping ,storage, and several other prices that cost a company that deals in hardware. MS would be idiots to want Sony just because they both make consoles. There is a world beyond gaming. MS are not idiots and that is why their company has a market share more then 5 times that of Sony's.

I am? Well blowing a cartridge is not as bad as having a console that just does not work.

And heck I am on my 2nd 360 which scratches my disks yet my first and only Mega Drive (Genesis) which has been dropped on the floor before still works smoothly after all these years.

Don't be in denial I admit a lot of cartridges have to be blown but look at the problems the 360 is having they are far worse.

...Dude, Sony didn't kill Sega. It was the fact that they were already in a finaincial pile of **** even before the PS2 was launched.Verge_6

Thats the excuse that people fall back on when they have nothing else to hate Sony for.

Yeah but MS sucks for old school gamers. Don't expect your console to work in 10 years time when you want to revisit classics. Great games but I know that I will one day want to experience them again.

PelekotansDream

You're wrong. I'm 31 and have been playing games for 26 years. The 360 is a great machine. As an old school gamer, I remember my Atari joysticks wearing out. I remember my NES needing it's cartridges constantly blown out to play. I remember having to wedge cardboard in my NES cartridge holder to be at the right elevation for games to play. I haven't had any serious problems with my 360, so yeah you're wrong about the old school gamer thing.

And as I said, I've had no problem with mine. You made this statement: " Yeah but MS sucks for old school gamers" which is wrong, because I'm living proof as an old school gamer. I understand that you were just speaking for yourself.

A small unknown software company named microsoft has an idea.

Now with the xbox 360, having excecuted PERFECTALLY, countless buisness strategies, from releasing a year early, to an advertising formula of "jump in"

CrazyIvanIV

XBOX is the only "successful" console line to take two generations to make a profit. (And they still haven't)

I put comments next to the statements I thought were particularly heinous.

[QUOTE="CrazyIvanIV"]

They came into this battle between sega and nintendo and pretty much ousted them both with the playstation two, effectivly KILLING my beloved sega!*

How dare this shape controllered hardware company come into my gaming world and flip things upsideown. And it was then that i swore vengance to them.

As sony grew and grew they became almost invincible, peaking in a golden age during the ps2 when out of the blue. A small unknown software company named microsoft has an idea.

As time passed and the xbox came and gone, it introduced videogamers into a new underdog system,**a new mascot to fight against this plague of videogame terrorism that is Sony. The xbox was successful in that it introduced the microsoft name to console gaming, and it proved to sony that they are not the only fish in the sea.***

Now with the xbox 360, having excecuted PERFECTALLY****, countless buisness strategies, from releasing a year early, to an advertising formula of "jump in"

Danm_999

* I think you need to emotionally detach yourself from these console companies.

** Interesting you refer to Microsoft, the wealthiest and most profitable firm in the world, as an under dog.

*** So basically, even in Enron made a console, as long as it was directed at Sony, you'd be cool with it? Also, hi, where was Nintendo? I'm pretty sure they were also showing Sony wasn't the only game in town.

**** Bit hard to call it perfect with the red rings of death.

even I have to admit, for the last decade or so, Sony hasdominated with an iron fist, any company trying to compete with that dominance, even microsoft is an underdog, who really would have thought that the 360 would be as strong as it is today? shoot, I took a chance on them and I have never looked back, playing on live and how simple and fun it is, completely got me off the PC universe, not saying its better than PC, but I just enjoy it more.

yes microsoft has issues with hardware, but I and thousands of other people can live with it, it can only get better.

Haha, wait so because its okay for you its okay for everyone else? Um look at how many people are having problems and MS themselves admitted this, that is why they extended the warranty.

You might be living proof but I am an old school gamer also and I dout many peoplewill have their first Xbox 360 work 10 years in the future.

And no I am not speaking for just myself, look around and open your eyes, a lot of other people are having hardware problems.

The only reason mine ever had hardware problems was because I opened it up and customized things inside of it. Besides the red rings of death are an easy fix.

Business malpractices? Any company bordering on dominating a market will be under government scrutiny. MS had a virtual monopoly because they took over that market. They actually put money into Macintosh to keep them from going under.

I ain't throwing a hissy fit infact you are the one who started responding to my comments on the situation. Say what you want but when you look at how many people are on their 3rd console at the moment the amount of people on their first console in 10 years time will be low and you can't say thats good for an old school gamer and must be able to agree with that.

I said I was an old school gamer and I didn't feel the same. That made the general statement youmade wrong. That's a fact. You argued, but whatever.

Fair enough if you don't feel the same way, that is quite obvious. But dress it up how you like, its not great when old school gamers have to buy the same console multiple times. Not everyone will have a problem, some people still use their launch consoles with no problems but there are a large number who are not having the same experience but a bad one. Now that is a fact because even MS came out and admitted the 360 has some problems.

So my point still stands, this is not good news for gamers who in the future when they play their PS5 or their Xbox 3600 might want to go back and play some of the best classics from this current generation but can't because the360 has a short lifespan for a large portion of 360 owners. Again tell me why this is not bad? Go on answer that why is it not a bad thing.

That is just wonderful. Since you obviously think that you owe the air you breathe to Microsoft, you might want to consider creating a 'Microsoft Defense Force' to combat the "Plague" that you think Sony is, lol. Afterall, they already have such a faction of fanboys, but you could do them one better.

Hell, it would be great. Just think of it....you could even have your own Microsoft superhero costumes made for all members. They would be really easy to make. White spandex tights, with green bikni briefs, and some green Combat boots (green cowboy boots would be an acceptable substitute). Then get a longsleeve white, skin tight Under Armour shirt, silk screen a big green X on the front and you will then be fully ready to help Microsoft on their crusade, aye?

I never said it wasn't bad. I said this statement was wrong> " Yeah but MS sucks for old school gamers. " and that statement is wrong. As far as the hardware issue, yeah there's too many faulty units, but they did improve the hardware and extended the warranty to 3 years. That warranty covers all units since launch.

Is this for real? There is so much fanboy misinformation here it is mind boggling.

Sony didn't kill SEGA, SEGA committed suicide. It wasn't Sony's fault that SEGA hates money and routinely made poor business choices that lost them millions of dollars. SEGA was already bleeding money BEFORE the DC came out and they couldn't support the losses any longer. meanwhile customers lost faith in SEGA after a string of crappy, non-supported add ons, a poorly conceived and over price Saturn, and a history of being the first to ditch their console to get the jump on the next gen.

Sony got where they are fair and square. They offered gamers what they wanted and attracted developers by letter them do what they wanted. It was freedom for the first time in a long time. No more of Nintendo or SEGA trying to tell developers what to do (family policies, etc.). No more excessive developer fees driving up the cost of third party games. No more releasing a new Mario or Sonic game on the same day as a third party developer was about to launch their new platformer. Not to mention the benefits of CDs (vs N64 carts)and Sony was the first console to make 3D a priority (the Saturn was meant to be 2D only).

I'm sorry, but your post has nothing even resembling a fact. Even if you combine the game libraries of the Xbox and 360, you still don't come close to what the PS1 or PS2 offered on their own. No console has ever provided the gaming experience the PS1 and PS2 did...not even close. While the Xbox is still growing and finding its way, it still pales in comparison to what Sony offered. And since the 360 is still only selling what the original Xbox did...I'd say consumers aren't as in lust with MS as you are.

I have to say that what sony did to the video game industry was maybe not so good. During the genesis/ snes generation there was healthy competition and both consoles benefitted from it. Each had it's own unique qualities and types of games, but they were roughly equals.

Playstation essentially ended that by dominating the market. It brought on a severe imbalance in sales, which only got worse during the ps2's time. Having MS rise in the industry might bring some balance back to the industry. Who knows maybe this gen will be a lot like the SNES/Genesis generation. I mean with the PS3 and the 360 of course. The wii just shows that no analogy is perfect.

here's the console layout as compared to 3 gens ago:

360 = Genesis: released earlier(2 years before snes but why split hairs)so had a huge jump in hardware sales and software library. Fitting that MS would fill Sega's spot since Sony is the one who killed Sega and one console company was born just as the other one was dying

PS3= SNES: released later, etc. and has some loyal fanbase and a good outlook to the future. Brand loyalty isn't everything, but remember that nintendo's market domination in the NES era ended but still gave them a huge boost in the SNES catching up and eventually overtaking the Genesis.
