I don't really get why tiny lengths of HDMI cables are super expensive with 6ft cables starting at $24 and 3ft cables starting at $15 (like 3ft is long enough, lol?).

They are expensive at retail stores because accessories is one of the largest ways a retailer, like Best Buy, actually make money. They don't make a lot on flipping TVs, but they make a killing on cables for them, and everything else they sell to make the big stuff work.

Don't buy from mainstream stores because they will scam you hard when it comes to accessories. Go to amazon or newegg and you can easily find something twice as long for half the price if not less.

Here a 6ft cord for 5 bucks and free shipping.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189053

I don't know if that's even the best deal it's just one of the first ones on the page.

I want to know why it's so cheap and why they're trying to get rid of it. :o

This one of those times where you don't need to ask questions, last fall I bought 6 hdmi cables each for $1, only one has stopped functioning and that's all that matters.

As with almost anything, the most informed shopper will get the better price. As someone said earlier, don't pay more than 10 bucks for a standard length HDMI cable. The only time you should be thinking about a more expensive HDMI cable is if you need a really long cable (1.3 HDMI spec compliance is at 45ft I believe) Gold tip plugs aren't neccessary either. Since HDMI is a digital signal it should not matter which type you get. There is no BETTER digital signal, it's all bits.

Yeah just buy cheap ones off the internet, even if is flimsy and doesn't carry the signal as good as the gold tipped or expensive ones, because HDMI does error checking and correction and should make zero difference between a $2 cable and a $24 one.

Honestly, it's probably better to by the cheap $1.00 ones. It's a digital signal... the signal can't be any worse on one hdmi cord vs another. The build quality could be lower but I have never had one of these things break.

After buying cheap crappy cables I can tell you now that it makes a dif. Especially now a day when we have 7.1 Master audio running full HD 3D picture. I debated this over and over again with other people saying "but it digital"... Still wont change what my eye's see and ears hear.

when i was doing my research and deciding how much to spend on cables i went to a ton of sites like high def digest and hdthis and blu-raywhatever.com type sites and every single one of them did benchmark tests that said cable quality makes no difference.

even when i got my new 3dtv and had to upgrade to those hdmi 1.4 type cables all the audio and videophile sites said don;t wate your money on expensive cables.

i went with their advice.

Most electronics shops make their profit from the cables, not the TV's or so.
If you want to pay the right price, you have to look online.

$10 for a 6 foot certified cable is not expensive. If you like your cheap Chinese cables then good for you. It's not gonna change the fact that I noticed differences in cables. From color to audio drops.

It's just some generic cable. That "cost" of $40 is just a bs MSRP that probably isnt even correct anyway. They aren't just "trying to get rid of it", it's probably intentionally listed that way because it's a 3rd party seller. So they probably want people to think it's a "bargain" due to the insane % off. Really though, cheap HDMI cables are easy to come by for those who look for them. It's not like you have to look hard though...

Just search HDMI on amazon and lots of cheap options will show up in the $2-$10 range. I've bought several of Amazon's own branded cables, as well as a "Fantatic Digital" cable which I got because I like the sturdier nylon outside (it's almost like a jump rope type material on the outside). All of them have been working great for over a year now. I haven't gone all the way down to the cheapest cables sold by 3rd party, I went only with what was sold 1st party on Amazon. No complaints from me on any of them. There is absolutely no reason in the world to walk into a Best Buy and pay $40+ for an HDMI cable.

Monoprice is another place lots of people will recommend.
