I simply dont understand why the CoD franchise continually gets beat up about not being innovative with each new title but other high profile franchises like Halo and Madden release new games each year and do nothing but add in cosmetic changes but the core gameplay reamains true to the series. CoD 4 made modern miltary FPS's as popular as they are because of fast, fluid gameplay and lots of unlocks to work towards. From the videos Ive seen of MW3, Infinity Ward has done alot with the game by adding in the Strike Packages which is almost a Class based system that can let everyone tailor their game to their play style. Getting rid lame perks like Light Weight, Commando and Final Stand is a great thing for game play. Based on what Ive seen, this game looks like it is closer to MW1 than MW2 and that is a great thing!

Bloom and armor abilities were cosmetic changes? Those are just the big ones, I could go on and on about the changes from Halo 3 to Reach.

Yeah, CoD gets more flak it deserves but Halo is the wrong series you should e comparing to.

Both COD and Halo are overrated franchises full of rehashes IMO. Every game is almost exactly the same. The FPS scene is the least affected by rehashing practices as far as reviews are concerned.

This, Reach and 3 felt VERY different. Different vehicles, forge world, architechural changes, skull additions, customised armor abilities, new MP modes, new SP online modes, firefight and I could go on and on.

How did halo ruin CoD when it came out 2 years before it? And also how does CoD ruin other games? There was a thread made today proving that wrong.

And TC Halo has had 6 games in like 10 years, and that's counting ODST and Wars...

CoD just follows in the shadows with everyones other features (theater,EXPand levelling,game modes,create a class are a few ones off the top of my head) it doesnt innovate, it tends to copy and fanboys go ooohhh wow no other game like has that and then theres the numpty's who will be sucked in with Elite and that in turn is bad for consumers.

Its deserving a lot of flak the whole FPS genre (well most of it) is in some way trying to copy it and other genre's are trying to change their own games to appeal to CoD players for example uncharted.

I dont have a problem with the gameplay but its online system is balls and its pushing the industry in a WRONG direction single handedly because its such a big franchise its a shame.

I just think when you look at what CoD does right....control, game types, customization, ranks and stat tracking, etc... I just fail to see the issue with this franchise. Plus MW3 will be running at a silky smooth 60 fps. BF3 on consoles will be churning out 30 fps and even on the PC version you are going to have to the greatest of the great when it comes to video cards, CPU and RAM to attain and maintain 60fps. Yes, I know BF3 will smoke MW3 in the visual corner, but I honestly have never though CoD 4, MW2 or MW3 look so bad to begin with.

what about what they do wrong? terrible spawning system, broken gameplay, terrible match making and gameplay that just isn't fun after a few weeks

also the 60fps is not a big deal at all. battlefield has waaaaay more stuff going on than CoD. its not going to make a difference

paying for things like in game gold tag,strategy guides (available free and easily on sites like this and unecessary for CoD),Elite tv,basically to get the full out of clan functionality one must have elite aswell which to be honest is bad.

DLC's cool and all that but its pointless all you really are doing is paying upfront then you can dick measure with a few toys that everyone will just laugh at.

You're right, CoD4 set the standard for the modern FPS genre, yet since then it has done nothing to rise above that standard, when you play CoD now you're just playing a standard FPS. The games have done nothing to evolve or progress in the last 5 years.

Well Halo actually has changes between installments that are signifigant. (ie, the power ups in Reach.) There's nothing wrong with retaining core gameplay. I mean, Zelda is my favorite series ever. But the CoD games hardly even try to change, it seems, with each installment.

Erm pretty much any gaming computer will be able to play it at 60 fps, it's just a matter of how good it will lok.

No. Halo: Combat Evolved was released in 2001. The original Call of Duty was released in 2003. And Halo has more in common with CoD than Unreal. Unreal and Halo play nothing alike. If anything, CoD is more 'twitch based", what with sprint being an ability all players share. Halo's the more methodical of the two.

I agree man and they ignore people like nintendo who also do annual releases.

There's a zelda and mario for almost every year the wii has been on the market.

For zelda there's..

-TP

-Phantom Hourglass

-Spirit Tracks

-Skyward sword.

That's a zelda for almost every year!

Mario has -

- New Super Mario bros (DS)

- Yoshi's Island

- Super Mario Galaxy

- New Super Mario bros (wii)

- Super Mario Galaxy 2

- Super Mario 3D Land

This is actually more than 1 a year and this is not counting the Mario RPGs.

The Mario games you listed (Yoshi's Island, what? Game's old) are all very different from eachother, and the Zelda games have pretty signifigant differences between the two. and they aren't released annually.

Yoshi's island is a mario game but I could leave it off if you want, still annual rehashing and they don't play very different from their source game. SMG plays almost the same as SM64 and the SMB games play like normal SMB. Also noticed I said "almost" annually, not only that but the zelda games once again go back to their source games, LTTP and OOT so they aren't fresh at all.

The Mario games you listed (Yoshi's Island, what? Game's old) are all very different from eachother, and the Zelda games have pretty signifigant differences between the two. and they aren't released annually.

GD1551

Yoshi's island is a mario game but I could leave it off if you want, still annual rehashing and they don't play very different from their source game. SMG plays almost the same as SM64 and the SMB games play like normal SMB. Also noticed I said "almost" annually, not only that but the zelda games once again go back to their source games, LTTP and OOT so they aren't fresh at all.

I know Yoshi is a Mario game, but it's old. It was originally released for the SNES.

And SMG plays similarly to SM64, but, then again, so does Super Mario Sunshine. So that game is a rehas, too?

Also, the Zelda games are fresh because of the new mechanics they introduce. PH and ST had some pretty different forms of travel, and SS is shaping up to be one of the more unique Zelda games. (ie the dungeons basically blend into the overworld.)

I agree man and they ignore people like nintendo who also do annual releases.

There's a zelda and mario for almost every year the wii has been on the market.

For zelda there's..

-TP

-Phantom Hourglass

-Spirit Tracks

-Skyward sword.

That's a zelda for almost every year!

Mario has -

- New Super Mario bros (DS)

- Yoshi's Island

- Super Mario Galaxy

- New Super Mario bros (wii)

- Super Mario Galaxy 2

- Super Mario 3D Land

This is actually more than 1 a year and this is not counting the Mario RPGs.

GD1551

That's hardly a bad thing. Besides some of the games you listed are quite different from the previous games.

SMS actually tried to be widely different. Oh I also forgot the OOT:3DS which would make it a zelda game for every year!

I just find it hilarious MW gets bashed for the rehashing when the kings of rehash themselves get a free pass.

Have you played the Zelda games? They are very different from one another, in the dungeon design and overworld alone, let alone gameplay mechanics.

turtlethetaffer

If that doesn't make it a rehash what does? The Cod games all have something different this gen.

- 4 introduced perks and revamped MP.

- WAW introduced zombie mode

- MW2 introduced spec ops

- BO had wager matches as well as several new game modes and contracts

- MW3's changes are listed here.

So is having the same basic structure making you a rehash or not? Because COD will not be a rehash if that's the case.

I've played all the console ones and only 1 of the handheld ones, they have the same gameplay mechanics.

4 was a great game. I loved it.

WAW, beyond Zombies, was still very similar.

MW2... quite a few of the and Spec Ops were from CoD4 (hell one of them was the All Ghillied Up mission from Cod4 but going a different direction) and many other missions were ripped from the campaign. (Which was quite unspectacular, btw.)

BO's contracts did very little to change anything, aside from new ways to earn currency. Same with the Wager Matches.

ShoTTyMcNaDeS

Halo doesnt make new games each year, and each time a new game is released its a new engine and a lot of new stuff is added (eg: firefight, forge)

Right... so we'll ignore the fac that in TP, you can transform into a Wolf, in OoT, you go backwards and forwards in time (which, I'll admit, wasn't too signifigant of a difference), WW you were sailing around, looking for treasure in a huge world (also tons of sidequests), Majora's Mask you could change your form into a Deku Scrub, Goron or Zora (not to mention replay everything) and in SS, from what we know, the dungeons blend in with the overworld, and you can fly?!

I'll agree that Madden is a very copy and paste reiteration of its titles. But any rant Halo gets for rehashing the "same game over and over" is completely unjustified. Unless you can point out any of the following that we've actually been doing in CE:

* dual weilding
* vehicle jacking
* 4 player co-op campaign
* photo and video capturing
* custom map making
* custom game type making
* having an in-game community sharing features
* weapon loadouts
* armour abilities
* co-op survival mode (Firefight)

Each iteration of the Halo series always brought something new to the table with more then just new weapons and skins, but gameplay mechanics that changed the dynamics of both the campaign and competitive landscape. And from each new game, taking what was brought before, the features stacked up to dramatically change the way players got togther in custom and ranked matches.

Halo games do not get released every year. Please do not put them in the same catagory with CoD annual rehashes.
