Watch Gamespot's e3 stage demo of LBP. They show some awesome stuff that makes the game deserving of its hype(actually, I don't think it is hyped enough). Gamespot thinks the game is awesome as well, seeing as it was the E3 2007 GOTS.ultima-flare

I watched the demo. I don't see where all this hype is coming from. The game does look quite fun but I don't see how it has won so many awards for its "creativity" when all the creativity comes from the player's, not the developer's ideas.

Yeah, and I can do nearly all of this stuff in Garry's Mod. It may not be the most user friendly mod, but it still beats out LBP in terms of creativity.

EDIT: Plus GMOD has an entire dimension above LBP. :P

I just watched the video for it off my PS3, and ... what the hell is the point? Is there any goal or objective to the game or is this nothing more than a creative time killer? This screams "killer app" just as loud as the rubber ducky game. :|RTFlakfizer

Man where have u been? This game will be amazing, and its also proving that the ps3 is just not an all shooters console. The ps3 is doing what every other playstation console has done, and that is delivering great games for all genre's of gaming and also bring in new genre's of gaming for new gamers and a broader audience.

Sounds like your an animal crossing player (I did play ac:ww until I lost my catridge and when I got another 1 it just is'nt the same). If you are you know why people did'nt like that game and thats gonna be the same reason they wont like little big planet. One of those reasons is it looks to cute/childish which applys to both games.proud722

No, I don't play Animal Crossing, I was just stating a fact.

Hmm... then it reminds me of a lot of games on the DS. I believe most people called them... tech demos. :lol:RTFlakfizer

Tech demos are apps specially created to demonstrate the technologic capabilities of something. Those games may look to some as tech demos, but they are actually interactive so they're considered games.

Ok PC gamers, I think this is innovative because it's the first of its kind on a console. Up until now consoles weren't able to handle the amount of power needed to create such games so it's innovative and it's different.

I see what u mean there. First time I saw LBP i thought what is the big deal about it? But when I started to do more and more research on it, I am starting to see what all the hype is about. I dont like those "cute" kind of games, I like blood splatter in my games, but it still seems very innovative and interesting.

But how exactly is that innovative? Both the PC and console are gaming platforms. Making custom levels is nothing new to gaming... thus it is not innovative.

Perhaps they won those awards for offering a creative tool (game) which lets players live out their creativity?

PC is not a gaming platform only but to answer it is for people who don't really play games on PC, in that sense it is for a CONSOLE.

Yeah, you could make your own levels on other platforms before... in seperate editors and on by yourself.
In LBP, there is no seperate level editor, it's within the game. You can build and try thing as you go. And you can do that together with up to 3 friends simultaneously, both on and offline.

Where has this been done before?

Garry's Mod, on PC. LBP is not innovative, no matter how you try and spin it. It will be a great game though.

It is pushing forwards the creative design behind 2D platforming, it is not innovating it.

Innovative for consoles would be more specific. Yes, foxhound_fox, it was done before, but only on the PC, not on the consoles.

The difference is that LBP is a professionally developed game, whereas Garry's Mod is, well, a mod. IMO, LBP is going to be tons better than Garry's Mod just because of that. No diss on Garry (whoever he is) but he just doesn't have the resources to measure up to, um, LBP's developers. Molecule...something.

That's a pretty bold statement there.

The innovation isn't in the fact that you can create levels, like you've pointed out content creation is nothing new. The innovation is all in how its implemented and integrated into the gameplay experience. It's not done through level editors or tweaking parameters in menu's, its simple and intuitive.

Add into the fact that it's a fully connected network where player made maps are shared and rated by anyone who wants. Reminds me of Bnet, if you will.

I'm a lemming who isn't afraid to admit that Little Big Planet is an innovative game, and possibly, the best thing I've seen for the PS3 yet.

There are a few things that really stand out after watching the demonstration http://www.gametrailers.com/player/17724.html

  1. Everything is in high-definition and very sharp looking
  2. You can easily create and drop objects into your world
  3. The objects you create move realistically due to the game'sfantastic physic's engine
  4. Your ability to create is almost limitless -- supposing, you have a sense of imagination and creativity (unfortunately, few people are half as creative as they would like to believe)
  5. You get to share in the creation of your world with friends, who can easily add on to what you create, or simply play the levels you've already made with you
  6. You can test and score other people's levels, so that the best levels are voted to the top, and everyone can share in them.

I'm in the 360 camp at the moment in regards to next-gen (have a PS2 and DS as well) and I have to say that, while so much of the PS3 is sucking horribly (MGS4 looks bland and boring to me, Lair has literally become a joke, and Killzone 2 has huge hurdles to prove it won't flop)... Little Big Planet is an amazing looking game. The freedom, the detail, the graphical style, and just the potential for hours of creative fun and expression and staggering.

Final Fantasy can take its hair gel and step off, I don't need Heavenly Sword when God of War does everything better, and MGS4's old-man-buttcrack-rolling-in-dirt-hiding-from-blind-soldiers gameplay is an experience I won't miss. Little Big Planet though... I'm starting to feel like I'll be missing an absolute amazing point in gaming if I don't get it.

I do see limitations for those who want to go beyond in creativity.

The game looks creative, but they want it to be above and beyond, then I'd say it doesn't look creative enough. I wouldn't want to feel limited to just a few functions and options.

They should have a feature that allows you to create your own mechanical devices ingame and not just zany contraptions. I'd want to be able to build a giant, functioning robot. 8)

And the robot could do different things...somehow.

I'd aim for a feature like that, and several more.
