Because its the final game in a series of an interesting, great and above all fun series of games, with great story, deep characters, cinematic graphics and fun gameplay. It's a series that has that spun several generations of consoles, and therefor have touched a lot of people, and those people want their series to end on a high note. Thats why.
Will MGS4 be AAA? Yes. Will it be GOTY 2008? Depends, there are alot of AAA games coming out in 08. And, in my opinion, Halo 3 will be the most enjoyable multiplayer game this year, can't go wrong with 4 player online Co-Op.

Well, it may have been played by a retard (why would Konami have someone demo the game that played it like ****), but that has nothing to do with the fact that the enemy AI was walking nice & slowly right into the barrel of his firing gun

I dont even understand whats going on here. Is AA a bad score nowadays? The TC says that the MGS franchise is "a bit above average" when it has gotten nothing but AA+ which in gamespot terms is "great" and above. So yes we should hype this game like crazy. If anything, the current trend of MGS games sees them getting AAA so heck yeah im hyped. Thats like saying ppl shouldnt have hyped bioshock because system shock was "a bit above average" .....
Obviously the gameplay demo was set to the lowest difficulty, if it was put to the hardest difficulty he would have probably been killed and that would have been the most talked about self ownage this year. Have you ever seena gameplay demonstration thats being played in the hardest difficulty? im trying to think of one but i cant.
MGS4 is being hyped because the previous instalments were good games and this looks to improve on them. Theres no shame just accepting that its gonna be good just as gearsand zelda are, just because its not on your console of choice doesnt make it trash. Its only a game and if its not your kind of game then leave it at that.

I played MGS2, and I cannot see this game being drastically different from that one. But hey, it's not like PS3 fanboys are bashing any other games for not being drastically different and thus deserving AA :P (Halo)

Every new MGS is different from the previous one, not just a few new weapons and a new coat of paint.;)
