Watching the Rainbow 6 trailer, the use of voice commands heavily featured as the primarily means to coordinate. The trailer seemed squarely aimed at the people on headsets, the xbox gamers.

Pc gamers (95% of the time) type.

So why it is team shooters (especially tactical) are not popular and bordering on dead on the consoles while they flourish on the pc?

Will Rainbow 6 end up being more popular on pc like Payday? Seems that could be the case.

I require your highly, highly, really high, respected thoughts on this issue.

while you are probably right i can't stand pc multiplayer anymore.

too many cheaters shoot me through walls, clip through the terrain and have aimbots and stuff like that.

i don't know if i will ever go back to pc mp after seeing how well policed console mp is.

the worst i have to worry about on console is a temporary exploit that will most likely get fixed at some point.

PC gamers can also buy headsets you know,

Also, being able to talk to players won't matter if the players themselves don't actually want to coordinate. Playing with friends or a clan is going to be better, even if you're typing.

As for popularity, i have no idea. Sales wise, i can see one of, if not both, consoles selling more, since many players may not even know the level of tactical depth. Concurrent players wise, yeah. I'm not going to assume console players are "less intelligent" than PC gamers, but if it's a truly, proper tactical FPS that requires planning and coordination, i can see it be as popular, if not more popular on PC.

You need to get with the program. PC gaming has been dominated by voice communication for years now, even with games that offer no in game chat method.

Most PC gamers type when they absolutely must, and no more.

Must be that "child of the 90s" stuff blinding you to reality again.

Thinking about it some more, I think the model the game is sold may have something to do with it.

Games like Insurgency, Red Orchestra 2 and NS2, aside from some aesthetic item, you basically buy that game.

With console games (for example Battlefield 4) it's deliberately designed to have as many unlocks as possible. With as much DLC as possible. And micro transactions within the progression. It ends up becoming a mess at the expense of greedy EA men, who are sadly, a bunch of cunts.

Perhaps it's not a good idea to get hyped about Rainbow 6, it's Ubisoft. 100 launch versions, 100 separate pieces of DLC and most likely micro transactions.

This seems like it could possibly be part of the problem as to why they are dead on consoles.

I usually type when playing games with random players. I'm always on Teamspeak when I need to communicate with others.

PCgamers on average are older and thus likely to be more mature. Also the standard for pc FPSes is still dedicated servers. If you act like an idiot or don't want to cooperate you get lifetime ban from this server. This quickly teaches people to behave.

Everyone my Steam friend's list own a headset. We typiclaly use third pary chat, which is superior to any console chat server or indeed most built in chat servers in games.

Your 95% figure.... you pulled that out of your ass, right? Right along with this thread, it seems.

Are you under the impression that this is different on the consoles? IT's WORSE there. There's nothign but lonewolfing, since that's what 99% of console shooters are about.

Could be the fact that the tactical shooters on PC platform are heavily supported by tournaments as well. And many of the games have steam workshop or some other form of modding that adds extra content into the game.

I play tactical shooters all the time, one of my favorite genres. Usually in 64 man servers you are lucky if 1-2 people are using mics. Most of the time they tend to be annoying cunts talking about shit like Breaking Bad while you are trying to play.

People proficient with a keyboard can type faster they can talk.

There is no tactical shooters available for consoles.....

PC gamers can build a more robust clan system than most modern games allow. Pc multiplayer sometimes relies on server purchases and the players are more committed to playing in a team than console gamers who can just matchmake and go. Take a game like arms for instance, you must join a "unit"(clan) in order to really enjoy the multiplayer if you are a lone wolf you won't get anything done. XML's are supported which can link to sites, have a roster, and etc. PC as a whole is a better community for tactical play.

Ah yes, the globe-trotting, pussy-magnet console gamers, rolling in money (but not enough to actually buy a PC), running corporate empires, and overall, just living it large. Oh, how we envy thee!

To OP: the PC gaming demographics tend to skew towards older gamers, who are more likely to be into simulation style games like ARMA and also more likely to take a game seriously (when you get to a certain age, you get over running around deliberately trying to screw up peoples's game session just for the hell of it). That combined with the PC's more extensive communication methods probably accounts for it.

Anyone here remember this little contest?

http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/12/30/pc-gamers-are-winning-the-battlefield-bad-company-2-vietnam-platform-war/

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.253994-PC-Gamers-Beat-Console-Crowd-to-Bad-Company-2-Vietnam-Map-Unlock?page=1

In the end the console players never reached the goal and Dice just gave it to them as a gift for the new year.

Whatever you've experienced on multiplayer scene doesn't automaticaly mean its the same experience for everyone else. To me Rainbox Six Siege looks like the type of game you would specifically only play with friends or with a clan.

However, i highly doubt the game will attract many young gamers because they already have thier Battlefield 4 and latest CoD to play.

Playing shooters on pc is just way too casual. Using a mouse to aim? Takes no skill. RTS is the only type of games work playing on Pc.

I have L4D on the 360 and it had some of the best communication of ANY shooter I've played. With or without strangers.. It sux now because most moved on to other games.. but at launch it was incredible.

But I agree.. friends list will give you the best experience.

What PC games are you playing? Good PC games have dedicated servers with admins that will kick hackers/cheaters, and server rules that prevent spawn camping and other bad behavior. Plus people get kicked automatically for high ping on a lot of servers, so you always have the best experience.

what difference does the game make?

if you want to check it out for yourself just name any popular game (or 98% or so of them) then you can go on youtube and see a vid of people using aimbots and wall hacks in it then most likely follow the link out of the vid to find the site where you can download the mod they were using.
