[QUOTE="genaroll"][QUOTE="Laserwolf65"]The first handheld to ever successfully co-exist with a nintendo handheld is not a failure. It's a rowsing success.Laserwolf65The psp is still around now because sony continues to support it.If the games for the psp actually sold well then it wouldn't be failing. So many good games for the psp go unnoticed tho. If the thing was failing, SONY would cut its losses and stop supporting the darn thing just like they did with the eye toy. They're doing fine. The psp is failing, the only reason it is still around is because sony is still supporting it.

I don't get it. People just like to hate on the psp. Look at 3ds, it's been a great welcome for gamers yet the games look like psp games.
[QUOTE="Modern_Unit"]It is when it's been in the market for 6 years, and current sales are sometimes eclipsed even by the PS2. Even the software on it barely sales. Overall it's a semi-successful business venture, but currently, it's failing. Do you think the 360 will make it to 60 million in 6 years? If not will you call it a failure?60 mill =/= Failing

I approve this message. Its annoying to hear people bash the PSP for having "console games" and also praising the 3DS with Metal Gear and Zelda ports.

You dont know how true that statement is. Its like they flip floped.
Because it tries to be a console, has the worst control layout ever and has the worst libary of games. It sucks even the mighty Metal Gear can't save it.Clank-PS-Snake
Sales wise proboly not,but it doesint fail in quality.

If the 360 only had a single competitor on the console market and that competitor was constantly outselling by large numbers then yes the 360 would be failing. A direct comparison can't be made due to price differences. But any system that is selling well below its competition and does not move software is a failure at that point.60 mill =/= Failing

Nice way to save face?..no. Just admit 60+ se;lls is not a failure and move on. It doesn't matter if you like or dislike the psp.

70 million sales is not failing, it came out in 2004.

It's still failing in the sense that sales are declining (especially on the software side).

The picture is a little misleaing because obviously it's in percentages rather than absolutes, and the total revenue in 2009 was higher than 2008.
But PSP software sales still fell from 450 million in 2008 to 281 million in 2009. That's a pretty sad state of affairs.
That marketshare that iPhone stole is mostly not the same market. All it's inclusion does is make the graphs impossible to compare without the numbers. It's still the number 1 selling console in Japan for how many weeks nowraskullibur
since everyone has DS already and 3DS information was around since CES? :p remeber PS3 downfall on Japan after slim annocment? this is how there market works
PSP isn't failing.
But here are some reasons why it doesn't do well compared to the DS:
1. DS targets a larger audience.
2. The DS is a haven for emulation devices and piracy.
3. The PSP doesn't have a library as diverse as the DS. However itdoes have moresshooters but somepeople I know keep complaing about it only having one anolog stick.
4. DS is cheaper. The cheaper console ALWAYS wins.
The PSP is a great gaming handheld andbetter multimedia device. The problem is the Iphone is turning out to possess evenbetter multimedia applications which is dipping into the PSP's profits. So Playstation is currently attacking the Iphone in the "MarcusPSP" ads.
No genre on the system has been able to take hold.
Puzzles work better on DS due to touch screen
Shooters... don't work.
RPGs on the system have bombed in review scores
Racers don't control as good with the analog stick
Platformers are virtually nonexistent
Action games tend to be ports of console titles
RTS... lol
Fighting is the only genre the PSP is decent at

They both suffer from unparrelled piracy.
